Never heard them, but they've earned a listen from me for the band name alone.

Never heard them, but they've earned a listen from me for the band name alone.

I'm suprised you've not heard of them with a name like that, plus they've been around since the 80s.  A band that plays silly/funny stuff in a slightly out of tune sort of way.  Very English subject matter.  A personal fave is 'With Goth on Our Side' from the 'Trouble Over Bridgewater' album:

My name it is Dai Young,
I'm the king of Welsh Goth,
The village I come from,
Is near Abersoch.

I was brought up on Bauhaus,
And black bedroom walls,
And I had my first snakebite,
When I was in halls.

Now the graveyard is calling,
The sky's getting greyer,
I'll drink the warm blood of the borough surveyor,
And I'll murder the verger,
I've seen how he gawps,
And I'll write on his headstone "Here lies Jones the Corpse".

Now my overweight girlfriend,
She sits and she crimps.
Her mothers convinced shes communing with imps,
Her brothers alright though,
He's a good lad is Wilf,
Cos he's into Placebo and Cradle of Filth.

At my gig up in Butlins,
The red-coats complained,
They tried to remove me - the bottles they rained,
But for the first time in history I did "Run and Hide",
And the scousers in shell-suits,
Had Goths on their side.

Now this land of my fathers,
It don't suit my needs,
I'd rather be someplace,
Like Bradford or Leeds,
Where the Gimpton teenagers could meet in my shed,
For advice on masscara,
And all things undead.

Now my left index finger,
Is nine inches long,
It's hovering over,
A world that's gone wrong,
Ask me to Prestatyn,
And thats what I'll do,
And we'll all die together,
And Dylan can sue.

They may not have gotten much exposure on my side of the Pond.  I'll plug them into Pandora and see what comes up as soon as I finish listening to my recent entry to the song title game (which is fiendishly addictive).

My apologies - I wasn't sure which part of this web-wide world you were from ;)

I see you've found something from "McIntyre Treadmore and Davitt" - classic example of the band's obsession with relatively obscure UK culture.  I don't know how much you know about this, but Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame) did an excellent series of comedies in the 70s called 'Ripping Yarns' and in one episode entitled 'Golden Gordon' the fortunes of a minor local football team were followed.  McIntyre, Treadmore and Davitt were three players from this imaginary team.  Well, it amuses people like me anyway... ;D

Now playing: Tori Amos - Boys for Pele.

NP  Queensrÿche: Rage For Order

Q music is very uneven, a lot of it I find rather dull (altho Geoff's singing is invariably great), but there are times when they're absolutely fantabulous. E.g. there's a point in the chorus of Infrared (on Rage) where Geoff´s voice sounds like it's "taking off" - I don't know how else to put it - highly extraordinary, never experienced anything like that before  *horns*

Guys, give your Queensrÿche albums another run. They're worth it  8)

No worries.  Nicky tells me I've got it good because I live almost in Dream Theater's backyard, but, being a contrary bastard, I mostly like European prog bands.  I do remember Ripping Yarns, but it was from long long ago, and I can't claim to remember it in enough detail  to have recognized the reference.  I can, however, recite the Parrot Sketch almost verbatim.  ;D

You live in (or near) New York? That's cool, I really love that place. Been there for two weeks a couple of years ago and it was great. I definately want to go back there again someday.

NP: Iron Maiden - The Mission

The novelty wears off after the first 40 years or so.  ;)   I, of course, would like to visit Europe.  I spent a week in Holland when I was 16, and other than that I've never been across 'The Pond.'

NP: Sugar - Besides - 15. After All the Roads Have Led to Nowhere

I'v played Maiden several times, and I can hear that they're good, but somehow they don't quite do it for me, same as e.g. Pearl Jam.

Hard to say why, maybe there's just not enuff unusual stuff to catch my attention and grip me.

When you say "epic," Tom, do you mean that you get just as gripped as with e.g. Arena or Queens Of The Stone Age ?
