Yeah, I know that. I had a colleague some years ago who was into Scorpions. But I think that that we can agree that there's nothin prog about'm, or ?

No we can't since their first two albums included a lot of prog elements : just check your second bible (I mean, amazon.com  ). But yes, nowadays (and since the early 80's), they are as far as can be from a prog band.

I don't actually either regard Marillion as a prog band. There was just sooo much energy in their early days with Fish, and nowadays they're quite suave, but in a pleasant way 

I do Marillion mainly with Ms 007.

Unfortunately, Bupiegirl can't stand Steve H's voice and she finds Fish's Marillion too dated

That's much more to my taste, Bups. You seem to switch easily between convention and prog, just like I do between coffee and hot chocolate 

Hm, which should I prepare now ? 

Let's say that I like to damp a piece of chocolate in my coffee ... And I don't consider DWOT completely prog

That's like saying "Paxi don't have no balls!"  Even peas count. - You asked for it, dude   

OK, let's see. As you know, I like - and often play - Yes, Genesis, Floyd, Zep, Queen, Jethro Tull, Spock's, Caamora, Chris Cornell, Eleven, Percy, Queens Of The Stone Age, Porcupine Tree, Pearl Jam, Fates Warning, Dredg, Rush, Saga, and probably a few more.

All of these bands are more or less prog without being heavy.

And I wouldnt call Sieges Even "heavy", altho I would say "metal". There's a difference imm. What do you guys say ?

Coldplay is one of the few 'mainstream-acts' I really like. I have all their albums and listen to them regularly. I think music doesn't always need to have 'balls' to be good.

Agree, Tom. But there's a strange thing about Coldplay: With a band like that, soft and having broad appeal, one would expect a lot of melody. But somehow that doesnt happen.

Take e.g. Chris Cornell. He's also soft etc. But he sure has got melody, man.

So it leaves me thinkin:  Is it Chris Martin's looks ?  Is it the fact that they mingled with fashion models etc. ?

Maybe a thing or two extraneous to music .....

Agree, Tom. But there's a strange thing about Coldplay: With a band like that, soft and having broad appeal, one would expect a lot of melody. But somehow that doesnt happen.

Sure, everyone's got a different taste, and that's fine! But I can't quite figure out why you think there's no melody in Coldplay's music. Maybe it's just down to the simple fact that I like them and you don't. And isn't that the great thing about music?
