Since Steve already answered this (thanks Steve), the only thing I can do is post my NP...  :D

NP  Sieges Even:  The Art Of Navigating By The Stars  (on repeat)

Only now I realise how ingenious this album is, one of the great masterpieces of progrock  *horns*

There are lots of fine metaphors with water and sailing, and consider that navigate comes from Latin navis=ship (in those days ships at sea were usually sailing ships); even in French, sailing is naviguer - aint that right, Bupsie ?

"All in the wind through the Street of Magellan
Beneath the Southern Cross we sail the wild wild sea
To reach all things out of reach
The promise of a name on and ever on
The distant lights of Valparaiso."

Ingenious !!!

That reminds me that I really have to check this album out soon(ish)! I love Paramount but for whatever reason I haven't really checked what the rest of their catalog is like.

Right

NP Dire Straits - Alchemy  A live album for the ages. The live rendition of songs like Telegraph Road or Tunnel of Love is really amazing !
UFO - Strangers in the Night Another highly acclaimed live album. At first listen, it sounds like solid if unspectacular hard rock with an inspired Michael Schenker on command. To be deepened on further listens.

You're actually moving in the right direction there, Bupsie  *horns*

But I know:  Sieges Even is a German band, so that's out of question for a Frenchie  ;D

Even so, here's Joel Israel's (one of my Amazon friends - why? cause he writes excellent reviews) review of Navigating on Amazon.com (my boldface at the end):

"Thought-Provoking, Amazing Prog Rock

Sieges Even are a new band for me, although I have been a major fan of progressive rock and metal for years. This album certainly took me by surprise with it's intelligence, complexity, and style.

Although unfamiliar with their earlier work, this latest album comes across like a combination of some of the best elements of some of the bands I love. The complex arrangements and sophisticated progressions of Rush, the intelligence and philosophical content of Pain Of Salvation, and the occasional metallic brilliance of Zero Hour combined with the vocal style and atmosphere of Tiles would be close.

Comparisons aside, Sieges really breaks new ground....my name-dropping of other bands serves as a way for me to describe their sound, which is difficult. They have a unique sound, and some very talented band members. Their ability to create intricate, progressive riffs and motifs and build compelling songs with them is quite unusual....Heavy and progressive modern rock with something to say, and first-tier musicianship.

Thinking man's music ...."

Hearing these album for me is very similar with the next SE's album 'Paramount'. I don't know why. But i'm sure that it is because Arno menses. Their voice is great. I hope they are not really disband.  :-[

NP: Z's dream - Imanissimo (Indonesian Prog rock band)
Their sound is spacey and flavored with metal sense. And now i'm still counting the days for their performance in Indonesian Prognite. I hope i will attend this show.  ::)

We most probably have to face it, Hanin. Arno and Markus have started a new band called SubSignal. They're recording a studio album currently ... and guess who's gonna get it asap ?  ;)

With Alchemy ? Yes, I know  ;D

Joke aside, I have seen that TAONBTS received a lot of praise so I should check it out. But I already have so many CD's on my shelves waiting for me to listen to them properly  :P, especially since my girlfriend has moved in with her I Hate Prog T-shirt (well, actually that T-shirt story is not true but it gives a good picture of her opinion. And if somebody knows where I could find such a T-shirt, it would make for a perfect Christmas gift ;)) ...

Tss, tss, Nicky, you should know that our real ancestral enemies are the English, not the Germans  ;D

NP Scorpions - In Trance    *horns*

Steve Jones

Osada Vida - Three Seats Behind a Triangle.  This has grown on me to the extent that I now prefer it to the more recent 'Body Parts' album, not that there's anything less than awesome about the latter, of course! 8)

I hope I'm not breaching prog etiquette by listening to any ancestral enemies here... ;D

Seriously, you shouldnt build trenches, Bupsie. Try instead to find some interesting music to share with her.

I have the same problem with my lady. Everytime she hears some real heavy stuff, she thinks that Al-Qaeda are at our door. Turns out, however, that she likes Marillion, Dredg, Arena, Percy, Ten, Eleven, Twelve (or would, if they existed), and some other groups in those weight classes. We can even share some of the Nevermore lites like The Sorrowed Man  ;)

I'm in love again with this album. I really like the dark overall mood and the melancholy in Waiting For The Flood and Friday's Dream.

I'd say it's a must buy, too, if you like Paramount at least.  I wouldn't say it's better (to me they're pretty much a matched pair) but certainly frackin awesome.  Most bands would kill to be able to produce an album of this quality and Sieges trot out two.  Talk about ending on a high note! 8)

By Rother's blade, I love this band...

There are very different musical periods in Scorpions long history so it depends on what songs you are listening to. Comparing one of their 70's outputs with a recent one is like comparing Misplaced Childhood with Radiation. But yes, "conventional" is a word that can fit since in the 70's longer songs with a psychedelic flavor were rather usual.

Yeah, I know that. I had a colleague some years ago who was into Scorpions. But I think that that we can agree that there's nothin prog about'm, or ?

I don't actually either regard Marillion as a prog band. There was just sooo much energy in their early days with Fish, and nowadays they're quite suave, but in a pleasant way  8)

I do Marillion mainly with Ms 007.

Yeah, now that I got properly into these two last albums, I really think that it's a terrible pity that SE broke up. Man, these four brilliant musicians were really groundbreaking.

And Deenie, have you listened to the stuff that Alex Holzwarth does on his drums ?  Breathtaking  *horns*

Paramount is a more difficult album than Navigating, less melodic, but equally magnificent  8)  - or should we say: paramount  ;D

Btw, guys, have you noticed how proficient I'v become at multiquoting ?  :D
