NP  Circus Maximus:  The 1st Chapter  (album, and title song on repeat)

Guys, this is one awesome album  *horns* *horns* *horns*

The title song is a whirlwind of all what's good in prog. Whew, man, breathtaking  *horns*

"Left the region of heavens to the underworld
... the bringer of life
Down in the shadows, the secret it lies within
Deep in the oceans of sand.

The journey ends back to paradise
Beyond the mountains far away
I've returned to where the sun always shines
... to my Grand Utopia."

The 1st Chapter seems to have been somewhat forgotten after the release of Isolate. But I must say that I find 1st just as great.

I actually got the motivation to check up 1st from Prog-Rev-Elation's excellent review titled "Progressive-Metal Muscle" on Amazon.com, January 21, 2008 (beginning of review):

"Circus Maximus continue to flex their progressive-metal muscle on this sophmore release. The energy expenditure and technical prowess on this disc demonstrate that they are ascending the ladder in the progressive-metal genre.

The problem with this disc is when you compare it to their stunning debut - The 1st Chapter. Although much of this album is on par with its predecessor, it fails to make any real movement forward. This is ok for some, and not for others - I enjoy it regardless of its continuation of their previous effort. The 1st Chapter was so outstanding, it's hard to imagine them making a leap beyond where they started."

Rather unusual that the debut is as good as the sophomore - e.g. DT's first was a failure imo cause Dominici didnt fit in at all (I don't even have it in my collection of some 15 DT-albums), and Nevermore's was basically a rehashing of Sanctuary (in fact most songs were outlined during the last Sanctuary period).

It was also a pleasant surprise to hear how much they'v taken off from DT - the complex passages, parallel runs, wonderful melodies, deep lyrics  *horns*

Hey, Teunis, I just went out on your MySpace cause I was tickled by your "Pendie forever". Not that I found any explanation there (or by googling) ;)

Also, where does "Teunis" come from ?  Never heard it before meeting you.

I read about your fave groups and other interests. I'm particularly curious about how you're dealing with Kamelot - one of my fave groups - they're rather on the heavy side of your portfolio  :)

;D Pendie is because of 'Pendragon'. I was overwhelmed by the great evening I had at their gig on 4th October  *horns*.

My name is coming from the Latin 'Antononius', which means 'invaluable'. Didn't know that, just found it on Wikipedia  ;D. Got this name from my parents (surprising, isn't it?), my father has the same name.

I did explain about Kamelot somewhere else on this forum, I guess you missed it. So now and then, f.e. after a hard day of work I feel like hearing heavy music like Kamelot, Shadow Gallery, Star One. I love it, as long as it contains nice melodies and Kamelot's music is full of it  *horns*.

NP  Porno For Pyros:  Self-titled  (from 1992)

A side project to Jane's Addiction, with Perry Farrell on vocals, Stephen Perkins on drums, Peter DiStefano on guitars, and Martyn Le Noble on bass.

Quite nice, and fun, particularly Cursed Female  ;D

Has Perry's characteristic singing, and his crazy and poignant lyrics, lots of exciting rhythms - very rhythm based and only little soloing - the three instrumentalists work great together. Peter DS has very much taken on Dave Navarro's style, which is not so surprising, being in the company of two so powerful musicians.

But I do prefer the greater drive of JA.

"She's the queen of the bees
That buzz in the bars
fresh as a strawberry
And she always loved dancing

Cursed to be born
Beautiful, poor and female
There's none that suffer more

Fresh as strawberries
2 girls in 2 nights
Got caught in the back of the alleyway

When no one came out
Zipped up their clothes
And walked back on home."

:(
