Coheed And Cambria: Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV | Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness

Got real gripped by Welcome Home ... but sadly not by much else.

They remind me of 3 (and Josh Eppard has played in both), some of the same drollness, but C&C don't have anything near the melody that 3 have lots of.

Whadaya guys think ?  :)

I loooove Coheed! Actually I like them more than 3. Welcome Home is fabulous indeed, as is almost everything from their 2 most recent releases. But just like any other concept, you've gotta hear the songs in the right order to 'see' the whole picture. Have you listened to the whole album already? I think it's epic! *horns*

Strange, Tom. We agree on so much. And the differences are inexplicable  ???

But prog is so changeable. And that's what's so wonderful  *horns*

Sometimes one just has to be in the right mood for somethin, and then it justs clicks, and then it's usually there for good  :)

Once again:  Aint it great being a proggie ?  And aint we ! ups, better stop here. If the money came along with it ...  ;D

But then tell me, Tom, what do you make of the Amory story ?

And have you listened (ever)more to Nevermore and Scar Symmetry ?

NP  Nevermore:  Born  (first track on TGE, on repeat)

This is simply cruising for me, simply cruising, simply ... mmmmmmmmm  :)

Guess cruising on some sorta skiff in the Arabian Sea with bunches of sharks and pirates following me  ;D

But after all, this is a safer way of living life dangerously, aint it  :D

Nope, unfortunately I have to wait. I owe so many people so much money, that it's a miracle that I'm still alive  :o

Hey, guys, the trick is to borrow from women; they only kill in words ;D

But I'm actually quite happy with the seven NM studio albums that I have. There's quite nuffstuff there to keep me happy for a while.

Now tell me, Jonesy, why arent Tom and Mad as enraptured as you and I (hey, not about each other, but about NM). Are they still too wet behind their ears ?  :D

I myself think it has its moments, but it's nothing like TGE.

Simply because Warrel's voice annoys me.  :-\
Jeff Loomis is a talented guitar player, the other musicians do great work too and all in all it's not bad but Warrel...He should get a job.  ::) ;)

Same here, initially. But because Warrel is one of the most expressive/dramatic rock singers - I can only think of Ian Anderson and Freddie as equals at the moment - and his lyrics really speak to me, he's gotten under my skin (now no jokes, guys)  ;D *horns*

I'm so happy to report I loved him from the start! (No, no more male bonding, just a fact!!) ;D

Well maybe i haven't tried hard enough yet but for now it doesn't click.
The music is okay though and kind of the same thing i listened too when i was a bit younger (beware: a bit, not a lot  :P) and although i haven't lost the rough edges yet it really does me nothing.  :-\

Sorry folks.

I myself think it has its moments, but it's nothing like TGE.

Initially I didn't find any of the older stuff as good as TGE, that prog-ish element seemed to be missing.  However, these days I can't find the prog-ish element on TGE either, it just sounds like metal to me, albeit best-of-breed metal. 8)

I still prefer TGE by a small margin, but I like the older stuff almost as much now.  In fact, my fave individual track is probably 'Dreaming Neon Black' at the moment.

Judas Priest - Nostradamus.

Four months down the line (I think?) and I still haven't really got into this one.  Nothing I don't actually like about it, but it doesn't hold my attention.

AC/DC - Back In Black   *horns*

The last part of the fabulous chronological trilogy of incredible studio albums  : Powerage/Highway To Hell/Back In Black. With Bon Scott on vocals, it could have been one of the greatest albums in rock'n'roll history. Plus, it contains the only metal song -Shoot To Thrill- that urges me to get to the dancefloor   :D

I must thank you for something, DeenMan.  ;)

Because of you I magically picked out my entire Shadow Gallery collection out of the Shadow-closet to listen to it again.
I already listened to their first album, with the marvellous and breathtaking The Queen Of The City Of Ice, and right now i'm listening to:

Shadow Gallery - Carved In Stone

Track: [07] Warcry
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

maddox

After the final chords of the beautiful Ghostship Suite it's now time for...

Shadow Gallery - Tyranny

Track: [02] War For Sale

In fact, the first track is Stiletto In The Sand but it just has ended.  :P
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

maddox

And so it has come to this:

After the first part of the concept Tyranny/Room V it's now time for...

Shadow Gallery - Legacy

Track: [01] Cliffhanger II
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

I have been listening to the entire catalogue (minus the first one) in the car for the last week and I have to say they are currently my most played band.

Actually it's a really cool song.

I need to hear the rest.

Hm, I'm surprised that you say this ???

To me, prog means that a group works hard to develop its expression beyond the norms and cliches, extends its range of emotions and moods, and tries to express these emotions as precisely and powerfully as possible. I find that NM go unusually far in these directions.

I can understand that most people can't handle all the weird things that are going on, but to me NM have progressed far beyond mainstream metal bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden.
