It's not my favorite Telephone album, though. I prefer the first three albums which were less polished but rocked more  *horns*
Anyway, one the few great French rock bands ...

I've also got what now seems to be called 'Anna' in the CD age, though my vinyl copy is completely bereft of such a label.  I was reading the band's bio on Last.FM whilst listening to the album earlier, and was suprised to note that a couple of the members were also in Shaking Street.  Another band I saw back in the day. 8)

NP: Robin Trower - Long Misty Days.
Also just watched the 3 numbers Marillion did live on TV last night, courtesy of a link posted on the Marillion forum. *horns*

Anyway, one the few great French rock bands ...

One of the big obstructions to them gaining attention outside of France, particularly in the US, is that they sing in French. It's already hard enough with all the funny accents (seen from an American perspective) of European groups, especially Eastern European, but a rock group singing in French - forget it !

Here in the Room, we know that there are some great French rock groups, particularly Spheric Universe Experience and Demians (the latter on some of you guys' recoms), and Johnny Halliday of course (hey, this was a joke).

Anyways, what do Téléphone sound like, Bups ?  Anything for any of us yathink ?  And what do they sing about ?  Snails and frog legs on the dinner table ?   ;D

... Mike Holmes ...

Is he the one with the long, no wait, that's John  ;D

NP  Scar Symmetry:  Prism And Gate  (on Holographic Universe)

One of the most original and b*grabbing songs I'v eva heard, truly awesome  *horns*

The contrast between the growl and angelic choir, man, I'd go further here and say b*shattering !!!

My fave on this album. Whaddaya say, Mad ?  :)

It reminded me of Steve Vai's contrast on Dying For Your Love (about God). Also awesome !!!

See, guys, this is what I mean by "ultimate" music. (Not that I'd literally wanna get my b*s shattered, however)  ;D

It's their first eponym album, including indeed a song called Anna and also featuring Telephomme and Flipper, two of my favorite songs from the band.

???  ??? You learn me that !!! Shakin' Street made a very good eponym album that I recommend (but it must be pretty impossible to find nowadays). For a glimpse : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3DH9XUCVto  Ok, it's very dated, I admit, but I really like their guitar sound !

Classic 80's rock. Steve compared them to the Stones, though no playing in the same league of course ...

Their Lyrics are pretty interesting. Watch Cendrillon's ones, for instance

Trust - Antisocial

Talking about Telephone put me in the mood for some French rock.

Trust was the most famous metal band of ours and Antisocial was their hymn. The song has one of the most insanely addictive riffs in metal history IMHO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrU-4H_FXhM&feature=related  *horns*  Anthrax made a cover of this song, I think.

They were a "subversive" band with social and anticapitalistic lyrics.

One can notice that Nicko McBrain also played for them on their third album Marche ou Crève (produced by Tony Platt) before joining Iron Maiden.

The French vocals + lack of voice of their singer didn't allow them an international career but they were probably the French band with the most worldwide potential.

I still remember the first time I heard L'Elite, their fist single. Great riff and solos, sometimes reminding me of early Scorpions. Should appeal to most metal fans  ;)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLZVbFiYjys&feature=related

Tom, what are your current faves on HU ?

I bought the album yesterday and I think this one will end very high on my end-of-year-list. My current fave is 'Ghost Prototype II (Deus Ex Machina)'. It sounds so very epic, it's amazing! The mixture of the growls with great singing is especially fabulous here in my opinion. And there's this perfect balance of heavy (albeit very uplifting) riffing with some superb melodic stuff.

Yeah, I'm really diggin' this album so I have to thank you for recommending it in the first place. Otherwise, I would simply not have known... ::)

Great to hear this song again. With all this fantastic new stuff coming out this year one could easily forget that there is also this band called Redemption. But when I get back and listen to it again, it never fails to amaze me.
