NP The Stranglers - No More Heroes

A bit uneven album IMHO but as a teenager, I remember how impressed I had been by the cover and the lyrics of the eponym song ... which I must confess are not very subtle !

A bit uneven album IMHO but...

Agreed.  Perhaps that's what the phrase 'difficult second album' was invented for!  ;D  Having played 'Black & White' and 'Meninblack' recently, I suspect 'Raven' won't be far away, playlist-wise.  Another Jones favourite. 8)

NP:  Dream Theater - Chaos in Motion.  I can't always manage the time to sit down through the whole 3 CDs, but at the moment I can't resist playing at least some of it periodically.  Cracking album. *horns*

Cool, how's that one?

Anyone got Neal Morse's latest already? I'm really interested how that one lives up to the (low) expectations...

I'm playing nothing at the moment.
Well, actually I was playing "Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines" (childhood memories...) before it crashed to my desktop... >:(

Quoting himself in the booklet:
This is not a progressive rock album. Sure, you'll hear a lot of the trademarks of the golden era of prog rock, but this CD is not about pushing back the boundaries of music, quite the opposite in fact - it's unashamedly retro and proud of it. I wanted to make an album as friendly and familiar as a favourite jumper or the wag of a tail from a faithful old dog. This is all about doing things the old way; songs with tunes you can whistle being played by incredible musicians at the very top of their game - a simple formula that never fails.

So If 'The Old Road' is an anachronism, it's intentionally so. I like old things and the England that I live in is not one of the internet, big business, globalisation, mulitculturalism, and the myriad of 21st century social problems: it's one of cricket on the village green, idyllic country pubs and trains with a steam engine on the front. You may think that world has gone forever, but it's still there if you know where to find it. And I have - I'm on the Old Road.

I'll mention a few musicians: Gary Chandler, Nick D'Virgilio, Andy Edwards, Mike Holmes, John Mitchell, Steve Thorne, John Wetton. Add the keyboard skills of the master himself and you know you can't go wrong with this album  *horns* ;D.

Why is Prog always about trains? Anyway, I 've been born a couple of years too late. I have a strong sense of nostalgia to the world that's 40 years before my birth...

And, it sounds like I need to get that album ASAP.

NP: Rebecca St. James - If I Had One Chance To Tell You Something
2. Alive

:'( Beautiful! Of course it's not Prog, but it's forking good Rock. Rock with a message! And it's the (quite simple... but very effective) lyrics that make my eyes water... :'(

That's VERY tempting. I'm already waiting for the new It Bites album to arrive but The Old Road could be my next purchase ...

This album was really a huge success in France and the two singles Ca c'est vraiment toi and Cendrillon charted very high. The producer for this one was ... Bob Ezrin himself ! Virgin put a lot of money on the table to try to export the band, which failed. I read that they played a gig in Chicago with an attendance of ... 2 !!!  :(   :'(

It's not my favorite Telephone album, though. I prefer the first three albums which were less polished but rocked more  *horns*

Anyway, one the few great French rock bands ...
