Ahhh... great choice.

@Nicky: Dead Soul Tribe is a must. Listen to "Once" and weep for Buddy Lackey of Psychotic Waltz who turned into Devon Graves, and the band Dead Soul Tribe. There is a story behind it all, apparent in lyrics and song if you've followed this man. One cannot lose more.

Osada Vida - The Body Parts Party.

I've kept quiet when playing Osada Vida and Amassefer over the last week, lest I bore you all to death.  But I'm still obsessed!  *horns*

One of the best feelings ever being obsessed by new music.

Yay for new music

Heavy Metal Kids - Kitsch.

An interesting 1970s period piece, although probably not to die for.  Yay for period pieces!  ;)

Good man, you'll go far.  (Although not necessarily in a straight line)

Just kicking off Blue Öyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening. I much prefer 'On Your Feet or On Your Knees' for BOC live, but feel obliged to play Enchanted from time-to-time.

Straight lines were definitely an issue as was trying to find my mobile at 2:50 this morning it's amazing how many things you can fll over in a bedroom when trying to be really quiet.  ;D

NP Steve Lukather - Candyman   *horns*

Couldn't go and see him on stage during this summer's tour but I read on different French forums that he was really in a bad physical shape.  Too much alcohol and drugs. It's not a new problem for him but it seems to have dramatically increased lately. So it makes me sad  :(

Wish he gets better and comes back to Europe next year.

Whew, this is formidable stuff !!!

I'm being drawn evermore into Nevermore heaven - mmmmmmmmmmmm  :)

Before:  Arch Enemy:  Rise Of The Tyrant

Promising. Swedish metal with a female growler/shouter, Angela Gossow from Germany. Some awesome guitar playing by the Amott brothers.

Not Nevermore or Opeth league, but far better than Dragonforce. (The latter seem to me to be playing and singing clichés, except they play'm so fast that you don't notice they're clichés - except me, I do  ;D )

Interesting, Deenie, and a bit cryptic. I dont get whether you consider DST great, or whether you think they dont live up to PW standards.

And where do you find Once ?

Maybe you can write a bit more about "the story" ?  How about starting a new topic on DST ?  They certainly merit their own topic in the Room.

Too much alcohol and drugs.

Alcohol is not new, but drugs again? Are you sure? He has a beautiful wife and a baby, younger than 1 year. I would be shocked.

Earlier today I played:
Nolan & Wakeman - Jabberwocky
Shadow Gallery - Shadow Gallery

np: Peter Gee - A Vision of Angels
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Did you know that she also sings a bit on the Amaseffer album, Slaves For Life?  ;D

NP> Actually, it's now watching:

Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura and Beyond DVD

Amazing. This band that is playing with him is extremely good.  8)
I was watching it with my son by the way.  ;D

OK, Mad, I'l spill it out now: I did play the Amaseffer songs on MySpace several times. The lyrics and music did sound interesting, but I didnt like Mats Leven's singing. My main problem with him is that he has too much of a foreign accent, and it's not a charming accent ala e.g. Maurice Chevalier.

But I promise to give'm some more spins. Just give me some time to dig into my Nevermore albums beforehand. (I can't concentrate on anything else at the moment  ;D )

Strapps - Live at the Rainbow 1977.

Strapps were a 70s band who now seem most famous for a) supporting the Ian Gillan Band back in the day and b) losing their drummer (Mick Underwood) to Gillan later on.

To me they're most famous for c) being f*****g excellent.  I always thought they sounded like a rockier version of Sparks.  A great shame that so little material has appeared on CD so far.

Seems to be video night!  *horns*

Just watched Satellite - Evening Dreams.  Utterly, utterly phenomenal performance by some real top flight musicians - left me breathless.  The video side of things, perhaps, doesn't quite match up to the music - just how many shots of the back of the drummer's head do I actually need in one lifetime?  But overall, a very definite yay!  ;D

Also watched the freebie DVD that came with Fates Warning - Perfect Symmetry.  More accurately, I fast forwarded through most of it, as it's mainly grainy amateur footage with muffled sound.  But as part of a bundle it's a worthwhile addition to the collection, a useful record of an age when men weren't afraid to wear poodles on their heads.  ;)

Nor were they afraid of making delightful music based around properly superb songs.

@Nicky: I'll let you make the journey. You are quite capable, and will benefit so much more from doing it than having it served.

Then, also, is the time issue. I guess by the time I've done my Europe, my GG and my whatwasit on here, you're all the way through PW turns DST. Read the booklets, and make sure you check out Buddy Lackey - The strange mind of..., while you're at it. For you, it'll be worth it.

One day I was sinking
and I couldn't reach the shore
and you looked down to me with a smile

You said, drowning angels make
pretty circles in the lake
and I'd rather see you struggle for a while

I can not get my head around the fact that mere humans can produce writing as stellar as that.
