So at at last I got to see it, Tom.

I'm thoroughly impressed !  I was particularly gripped by Kirk's solos; he seems better than ever. After a series of studio albums where he has held back, it's great to see him in full vigour again.

Btw, they're finished recording their next (ninth) studio album. The title is Death Magnetic, and it's scheduled for release in September. That seems to be the next big release to be received and discussed here in the Room (after now Opeth's Watershed).

Prog or not, 'Driving the Last Spike' is up there with the best Genesis tracks for my money.  Not quite 'Supper', but not far behind.  *horns*

Agree, Stevie, it's a great song  *horns*

Is there anything else on We Can't Dance that's memorable ?

NP  Genesis:  Driving The Last Spike  (on repeat)

I can't remember.  ;) ;)

NP: Journey - Revelation.  I don't often have AOR moods, but clearly I'm having one now.  Great album if you like this kind of thing.  *horns*

I really dig PJ, think they have some great music. Sure, it's no prog whatsoever, but lately I find myself enjoying 'grunge-like' bands quite often. So yesterday I was listening to PJ's latest album with the straightforward title 'Pearl Jam'. The only album I can compare it with is 'Ten' (no not your Ten ;)) because that's the only other PJ album I have. I think the main difference between the 2 albums is that Ten is more accessible (they had a couple of hits with this one: Alive, Jeremy and Even Fow). But if you're in the mood for some dirrrrrrty melodic music, listen to Pearl Jam (the album).

You see, I'm not really prog-orientated these days! But sometimes you've got to do that. Then when you go back to prog it smacks you in the face as if it's your first prog-encounter! :D

Interesting, Tom, all members are Danish. Whadaya make of'm ?

You should try Section A, in my mind without comparison the best Denmark-based group, i.e. Torben Enevoldsen is the de facto owner of SA, and he draws upon some of the best musicians in Scandinavia and Germany. Torben himself is one of the best guitarists around.

Also Wuthering Heights are excellent, a bit too wild and thrashy for my taste, but topnotch musicians full of exciting ideas and fine melody here and there.

I like 'em!! I saw them at Pinkpop and they were great. I have their most recent album "Eyes On The Highway", and it actually contains a lot of what I consider 'prog-lite' moments. For example the song 'A Way Out'. I cannot really describe it but that song is so full of emotion and great musicianship. Stunning! You should check this album out, I think you'll like it.

Check out Fatboy Slim if you don't know him already. He's made some terrific videos. OK, the music aint prog, but the vidoes are so good that you start jivin with'm anyways.

NP  Ten:  The One  (on Return To Evermore)  (on repeat)

This is one of Ten's best songs. Just as heavy and dense as Opeth, and just as good - and Gary Hughes is an even better singer, in fact he's one of the absolute best  *horns*

... and he hasnt played any dirty tricks on me (yet)   ;D

Just had Return returned from someone who had borrowed it faaar to long. So, watch out who you lend your fave albums to, guys  ;)

Btw, if you're thinkin of gettin a Ten album (which you should), Return is a good place to begin, heavy and very melodic. Almost all 13 songs are great.

Saw them as the opening act of Iron Maiden two years ago and that made me realise: this is really not my cup of tea. No, really not.  ;D

I agree, Mad. They're excellent musicians, and there's a lot going on, but nothing that fastens with me.

As long as you're not the male protagonist, Bups, cause then the movie would never get outta bed.

And if it's a typical French movie, then there are two hours of gabbering (in French, on top of it), and then ten concentrated minutes of killing and f*ing  ;D

NP  Ten:  Babylon   *horns*

The only one I have with Vinny Burns. There is quite a difference. Both periods are superb.
