NP  Gary Hughes:  Veritas  (on repeat)

Maybe not one of his best, but it's Gary, a fabulous singer, and Chris Francis on lead - and Gary's albums are real growers  *horns*

Unfortunately the production isnt as clear as on his other recent albums.

Today i've played Tiles new adventure called Fly Paper.

I'm still disappointed with it. Too bad they don't pursue their own style but keep hanging in the Rush corner. Shame.

Now i'm playing:

The Beatles - The White Album

Amazing.  :D

Just finishing: Fish - Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors
Next up: Marillion - Radiation

It works rather better for me, I'm pleased to say.  I quite fancy getting some more Tiles CDs when funds permit.  :)

I know, it's not prog, but I think Pearl Jam are great! :)

What do you guys think of 'em?

I'v actually commented on PJ several times before in the Room, Tom. I consider Eddie a terrific singer, he really carries the group. But the other guys dont seem to make much of an effort, it's kind of a gravy train for them. And that's why PJ aint prog. Maybe they're great live, but their studio albums are rather staid. At the opposite end you have DT, where all the guys spend long hours working out each their part and give their all both in the studio and live. But OK, when I need some relaxation after an e.g. DT bombardment, I might put on a PJ album - but that's hardly a recom for PJ.

And Tom, maybe now you'd like to comment on some of the stuff that I asked you about  ;)

Well it's not bad at all but listening to it it kinda reminds me of Window Dressing and the stuff before that. Mind you that i really really like Fence The Clear and Presents Of Mind but the thing is that they don't progress any further. They seem to be stuck in their Rush-mode and refuse to develop their own stile. That's a shame in my book.  :(

Well i can only speak for myself of course but I for one like Pearl Jam. There are only three Grunge bands I like and PJ is one of them.
The other two are Soundgarden (should ring a bell for you, Nicky  ;)) and Alice in Chains (and again. :D)
The unplugged album of Nirvana is also a must have but overall i think they're pretty overrated.

Opeth - Still Life

The recently remastered version sounds much better to my ears, especially when listening on headphones.  I've just given my older copy to a friend, hopefully it'll start him off as another Opeth fan  8)

Bruce Woolley & The Camera Club - English Garden.

For those not familiar with this 1979 album, it's a prime slice of new-wave, or power-pop, or whatever name found favour with the great and good at the time.  It's not prog, but it does feature Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn who were later in Yes for a short period.  They were also in Buggles, but the less said about that the better - in fact this album includes a non-Buggles version of the infamous 'Video Killed The Radio Star' which is probably my least favourite track here.

On a related note, although not every hardcore Yes fan looks favourably upon the 'Drama' album with Horn/Downes, I thought it was excellent and still do.  I saw Yes (or Yeggles, as some would have it) twice on the Drama tour and they were really on fire.  Great stuff.

Listening to A.C.T has put me in a more pop-friendly mood, I think...
