Genesis: Carpet Crawlers (The Lamb). Fabulous song, still sounds great. Genesis ruled at the time, true prog.

But, Cap, you gotta do something just as original to make me worship you  ;D

That something is already there, right in front of you, you're using it, it's called the forum :P
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

That is one of the most beautiful and unfortunately just one of the very few good songs the Netherlands has.
In Dutch language of course, 'cause we always have Mr. Arjen Anthony "Ayreon" Lucassen! ;D

Indeed my Danish friend. In fact, they still rule with that album at this time.

I was playing:
Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura

I was crying man, this is really good and lyrically it fits me and my beliefs just perfect.
I'm already curious on what Mr. Morse-guy is writing at the moment...

Strange. I both agree and disagree with you here. Indeed Dutch music hasn't brought us top songs which chills the spine but there are a few examples which prove otherwise.

Blof has made more beautiful songs, not only Mooie Dag, but you knew that probably already  ;) but what about Frank Boeijen? Especially in the beginning he made some extraordinary stuff. We all know (the dutchies i mean) Kronenburger Park but there's more than that one.
And to be honest, i like Guus Meeuwis and Rowen Heze as well. Good fun for parties i guess.  ;D

But indeed, there aren't many good Dutch songs sung entirely in Dutch. A shame i must add.

Absolutely, I listened to it yesterday and was reduced to tears, this album is one of the best of 2007.

Funny you mention them. Bought this album last year since it was reccomended to me but besides the title- and opening track it really doesn't anything to me. Good ideas but just not my thing. Think they want to lean on Glass Hammer's sound too much.  :-\

Chris Cornell: Euphoria Morning.

This is really a masterpiece, one of the most powerful and manifold vocal perfomances ever, great songs, and Alain and Natasha from Eleven have done a fine job too. Seems to take people quite some time to get into, but it's a real repeat-album.

Agree on DT, Maddox.

Kaipa - 1975 - Kaipa
03. Ankaret

This is seriously very good.
I haven't seen many people here who replied in this topic saying that they are playing Kaipa.
Am I the only one who listens to the old prog on a regular basis?
Where are all the old people? ;D All I see is 1990-2007 bands and songs (Spock's Beard, Arena, Dream Theater, Ayreon).
They are all good of course, but am I the only one who still discovers great bands from 1970-1980?
Before 1980 there was plenty of good music, and I'm sure Kaipa is one of them, check them out or you'll make me really angry...

EDIT: By the way, I'm making myself a compilation disc of the best songs from the first three albums (Kaipa, Inget Nytt Under Solen, Solo), but it's too difficult because, in fact, they're actually all very good songs... :o ;D

OK, I just put on Mindrevolutions to avoid getting beaten up by you, PH. Got some pretty heavy graphics. Let's see what this ends up with. Aleena looks real sweet, maybe I'll marry her; but then again, I'd probably get beaten up by Hans and Roine. So it's a choice between a Dutch and a Swedish beating. Dunno. Jonas does some catchy bass stuff. The singing is very good too. Maybe I'll just stick to the music. Keeps me friends with everyone too.

Great that you're so searching, PH. Most kids your age are into hiphop, which is ...... ahem ........

It's also great that you can share these things with your Dad. I could share Beethoven with mine, but not Dark Side and what followed.

Yes, I know... rap and hiphop is... ahem... and then we also have hardstyle which is even more... ahem... and I've heard that hardstyle originated from Holland... Man... I'm so proud...

ahem...

Hehehehe well, not all!
He likes Genesis (I got that from him), and he also likes Blackfield a lot and some of Porcupine Tree (not all). Furthermore, he's the one who likes Pink Floyd, but I haven't heard him playing a CD of Floyd for years. And when he does, it is Animals.
He also liked three tracks from "The Muse Awakens" from Happy The Man and Ray Wilson is also very welcome. (A year ago me and my dad attended a Ray Wilson gig, which was fabulous!).

He doesn't like Arena, A.C.T, Dream Theater, Kaipa, Kino (no, not even that one...), Spock's Beard/Neal Morse, and all of the rest that's in my profile.

And furthermore he loves Beethoven and The Dubliners.

Basically it's inconsistent to like Floyd and not Arena, PH. These preferences are clearly due to him not having made the effort to get into Arena. But one has to allow that people have different priorities during different phases of their lives. If you had played Arena for me just six years ago, I would have also warded it off.

Now playing:

Magic Pie - 2007 - Circus Of Life
03. What if...

One of the best songs of 2007 for me. This is wonderful.
Top band, brilliant compositions and powerful and yet gentle vocals.
Magic Pie is for anyone who loves Retro Prog in general and Neal Morse/Spock's Beard and loads of Scandinavian Prog in particular (Kaipa, A.C.T amongst others). The band has influences of Genesis (don't they all?). It seems as if Roine Stolt plays guitar, but also a big part of Magic Pie is covered with a Dream Theater energy-sauce. Or to be short, it's almost a Transatlantic record...

I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO EVERYONE ON THE SHATTERED ROOM!!!
