And now I'm listening to Devin Townsend's "Ghost", which I find mostly boring, with a few standout tracks, but it's fine for background listening.

Maybe I was the only one left here not knowing them ? It's rather ethereal, think of a mix of early Cure (The Forest) and Morcheeba. Very cool, relaxing, wife/girlfriend compatible ... and totally unprog. Well worth the listen if you are open-minded.

Imo SB became better after NM left. Their ninth studio album SB is really superb - aint that so, Paxi ? Also Octane (8 ) and Feel Euphoria (7)

I haven't yet listened to X and Brief Nocturnes ....

Even now I find that Neal Morse's music aint quite pantheon - a bit too neoprog. But the combination of lyrics and music is superb and original. No other Christianity geek does anything like this

And I suppose that anything with Mike I has got to be pantheon

Absolutely not!
But I don't mind you saying that.

Number 9 (simply called Spock's Beard) and X, were indeed superb, but the first two albums with Nick on vox are below their average.
One of SB's worst album during the NM era is Day for Night but even that one is way better than Feel Euphoria and Octane.

I haven't yet listened to X and Brief Nocturnes ....

I think the selftitled album is a really good album. Other good albums are "V", "Snow", "Octane" and "Brief Nocturnes..."
I haven't listened much to "X" yet, but from what I've heard, it's really good as well.
If you want a top 5 from me, you'll have to wait till I've listened more extensively to the mighty Beard.

I haven't listened to Spock during the past two years. I'm somewhere else now, mainly Sagoth, Morbid Angel, BTBAM, very intense complex music.

Hammond organ, piano, rather simple song structures.

But I've been hoping that Christians get more at the cutting edge of rock and metal, and Neal Morse's stuff is the best I know with lyrics based on Biblical and Christian themes
