NP  Rush:  Snakes And Arrows

Terrific lyrics and music. Geddy still sends shivers thru me  *horns*

As much as I'm a major Rush nut, I've gotta confess that S&A didn't quite meet my expectations.  The emphasis there is on 'didn't quite meet' as it's still a good album, but it's competing with a huge canon of high quality work which, to my ears at least, is generally a tad better.  On the other side of the coin, those tracks that appear on S&A Live really kick asp and I think it's just the overall sound of the studio version that leaves me ever so slightly wanting more.

Still, it's one of those things where personal opinion obviously varies as many fans cite S&A as a return to form.  On a related note, the S&A live Blu-Ray is quite simply the best concert video I've ever seen.  Jaw-dropping stuff! 8)

Serves me right for playing around with Google Chrome, I suppose... ;)

Jonesy, it did take several runs, but now the studio S&A is manna from heaven to me  *horns*

Maybe the live version is even better, dunno, but currently I'm exceedingly happy with the studio version.

I plan to play it all evening  8)

Reminds me of one of my Dad's jokes:  What's the difference between a snake and two lovers on a bench ?  ;D

If you havent heard Ghost Opera, you're missing something BIG, and I think you'l like it, as it's slow heavy and very melodic, and Khan rules  *horns*

If you do get Ghost Opera, try to get the version called Ghost Opera: The Second Coming.  It includes the original album on disc 1, and disc 2 is mostly a live recording from Serbia plus 4 studio songs (1 is a remix).  When I bought it, for some reason it was actually $1 less than the regular version on Amazon.  It's always nice to get paid to accept additional good music.   ;D

NP: The MySpace sample songs by Au4.  They get a bonus point for being Canadian.  Sounds almost shoegazerish to me.   Nice so far.  I'm a bit puzzled that the band roster appears to be all male because the vocals on the first couple songs certainly sound female.  Perhaps she is credited separately on the full album, or perhaps it's a male singer who met with a very unfortunate accident as a youth.   ???

After surfing a bit on the MySpace network, I ended up on this: http://www.myspace.com/au4

When listening to this the following bands came in my thoughts: Porcupine Tree (the quiet bits), Frost*, Gazpacho, Pure Reason Revolution.
It's very calm music, but it's filled with all kinds of beautiful things.

You can listen to the entire album when you stream it from http://www.au4-audio.com/
This goes right on my shopping list! *horns*

HIGLY recommended! ;)

Wow, what a great band! :o *horns*

So far I only listened to 'Everything Always Moving' but they remind me somewhat of Mew (http://www.myspace.com/mew), especially in the vocal-department. That is a very good thing as far as I'm concerned!

But thanks for the tip! By the way, did you already check out Dredg? ;)

Yes, they are a bit shoegazerish indeed. And I like it a lot! 8)

There was no female in the process. Just three brothers and a friend as far as I know.

You're welcome! Just had to spread the word!
And yes, I did check out Dredg (on MySpace).
It sounded ok, but somehow it wasn't a direct 'click'.
But I added them to my favourites and will listen to it every once in a while, just to make sure. ;)
I WILL get back on this.

NP: Au4, thanks to their official website!

I love it! Now I need to know where to buy it.

Excellent station. Thanks for the tip!

It's currently playing a new (as labeled by morow)  Pendragon song called 'Indigo'.  I'm not sure if this is brand new or just from the most recent album since Pendragon never really clicked for me before, but this song is the best I've heard from them.  If the new stuff is all  up to this standard, I'll have to add them to 'to buy' list.   *horns*

8) 8) 8)  This one could have been subtitled ("how hard rock can be really smart sometimes")

JP  Motörhead - No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith  Got this one for a bargain price on amazon. Despite its raw energy (and my present metal phase), it's really too minimalist "punk-metal" for my taste and I couldn't go through the whole album  :P  I listened to it some 25 years ago and was not convinced. Things haven't changed. Sometimes you have pleasant rediscoveries, sometimes not ...

NP Fates Warning - FWX  This one should get more airplay in Bupieland. If I had to define FW's music from their prog period, I would use the following metaphor :

You want to try to achieve a transformation from Enchant to Dream Theater (or the opposite) and you get jammed right in the middle of the process. It makes you a bit angry and depressed so you add those elements to the music and you have Fates Warning ...
