I think Pop Metal is more or less something like Van Halen, or Kiss, AC/DC perhaps. Although I probably would describe these bands as Hard Rock nowadays.

I would say that Van Halen and AC/DC are hard rock, verging on metal.

I consider VH a far more exciting band than any of the others that you've mentioned. They are pantheon with me. VH1 was a bomb at the time, the first four tracks are classics, still very listenable. VH III, with Gary Cherone on vocals, is a wonderful album that I've listened a lot to. I have to listen more to the other VH albums ...

I call Maiden, Nightwish, Rammstein and Volbeat pop metal cuz they've found a relatively simple formula that goes well with the masses, and that they don't develop much, nothing close to progressive.

It's become cool to say that one listens to metal - except that those four bands are far from the heart of metal, which is: challenging, breathtaking, shaking, gut-wrenching, brutal, transforming. True metal is like a rollercoaster ride with surprises and loops goin in all directions. True metallers don't want tralala, they want: Whew, man, what the f*s goin on here!!!

Today I listened to Roine Stolt - "Wall Street Voodoo"

Phew! *horns* Great prog/blues/rock double album. One of my top 5 guitar players. But each time, I forget that I am the only Roine Stolt fan around here...

Good to see ya back in form, Jonesey ;)

You're the first other Roomie I've seen to play GDOW - even tho I recommended it warmly some time ago - but of course, it's not exactly pussy rock ::)

Super album, ainit ?

I can recommed all three Rune Eriksen era Mayhem albums. Chimera is just as good as GDOW, even faster and furiouser, while Ordo Ad Chao is ... well ... weird, to say the least :o but there's stuff in it .... ;)

Deliverance is the heavy one of the pair - real heavy, and real goood *horns*

Man, you gotta use the impetus to hear some Fear Factory. Genexus is my fave album these days - but with FF you simply can't go wrong. Even the two albums without Dino are far above what most bands are capable of.

I don't listen to anything else these days 8)

NP  Fear Factory:  Transgression  &  Archetype *horns*

The two non-Dino albums. A bit less furious (everything is relative, as Albert said), more melodic, and pensive - yeah, I'd really say so :)

Guess I needed to hear somethin else:

NP  Bob Dylan:  Bringing It All Back Home

One of my fave Dylan-albums.

Dylan is ineffable:

The funniest thing was
When I was leavin' the bay
I saw three ships a-sailin'
They were all heading my way
I asked the captain what his name was
And how come he didn't drive a truck
He said his name was Columbus
I just said, "Good luck"

NP  Architects:  All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us

Super stuff, straight to my pantheon *horns*

Group from Brighton, metalcore, melodic, aggressive, varied - right up my alley 8)

If anyone should compete with FF these days ;)

Funky, Jonesey, Mad, listen in here!
