NP  Explorers Club:  Fading Fast  *horns*

I'm just preparing my prog evening here in Vangede Library, my local library. This is a great way to start a listening spell, with this wonderful piece, one of my absolute faves.

We'll also hear DT Take Away My Pain, The Spirit Carries On, Van Halen Once, Sparks Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth (for a bit of lovely retro), Guns N' Roses November Rain (great video), Royal Hunt The Mission & Dreamline, Stride Imagine, and lastly Arcturus Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer (just to get a taste of real metal) - no Outworld or Bal-Sagoth, don't wanna chase'm away ;)

Nicky, this is actually very Yes-y.

Mindrevolutions is actually the Kaipa-album that I have, Paxi. It didn't really do it for me when I gave it some spins five years ago. And again I had qualms about the Swenglish :-\

Non-native-speakers in English should really work harder at it. Might work for other NNS's, but with picky people like me ;)

But I'll revisit .... ;)

I'll admit that there's quite a lot of noodling on the early Yes-albums. But with Yes I'm willing to put up with it, cuz I know their entire evolution, and I see the strokes of genius in it. They started this type of prog experimental style, and they own it, so to speak. With other suc experimental Groups I'm not so indulgent.

NP  Van Halen:  Once

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I19X-m3vWnk

Just delved properly into the lyrics. They'r extraordinary! Basically it's about that when something appears (once) it never disappears "Once present, never past". So terse, so simple - so poetic :)

The music, of course, is ineffable 8)

I have to admit that "Mindrevolutions" is the least of the first three albums of revived Kaipa (2002-). The first album in the Roine trilogy (as I like to call them) is "Notes From The Past" (2002) and this is a really nice album. Very true to the early Kaipa melodies (1974-1979) yet with an updated sound. I think (but I might be wrong) that most people in the Room could like this album. The second album in the Roine trilogy is "Keyholder" which is more noodling and longer songs. It's all very technically challenging. "Mindrevolutions" is (as I said) the last in the Roine trilogy and to me seems like the leftovers from the other two albums. Only the epic title track is interesting. The other songs don't do it for me either really.

After these three albums Roine quit (I'm not really sure why, but I think (!!) it has to do with Hans Lundin being a bit of a control freak). The next three albums have Per Nilsson (of Scar Symmetry) on guitars. There's not really a big change of style, but I guess you can say it sounds a bit more heavy (but faaaar from being metal!). I do miss Roine's wah-style playing and his bluesy feeling a bit. The first post-Roine album is "Angling Feelings" (2007) and this is a nice album but I think "In The Wake Of Evolution" (2010) is a bit better overall. "Vittjar" (2012) I need to listen to a bit more to give an opinion.

Subsignal - Touchstones (takes a few more listenings to 'get it' than 'Paraiso' which was love at first hearing)
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

I'm listening to a few Lee Abraham songs on YouTube (this one for instance) and I am liking what I hear.
He has a new album out (so it seems) and there are quite a few interesting names that he has worked with either in the past or on his new album:
- Karl Groom (Threshold)
- Declan Burke (Frost*, Darwin's Radio)
- Steve Thorne
- John Mitchell
- Jem Godfrey

Lee is formerly of Galahad (I have two albums by this band, but I was not overwhelmed with enthusiasm, but Lee does not play on these albums).
Anyone here who knows more about this artist?
