I really like that CD.

Me too.  I've had my copy for many years now and the vitality never seems to diminish *horns*

NP: Robin Trower - Long Misty Days.  Generally I love this album, especially the awesome title track, but it does lose points for having a version of 'Sailing' :o

Joe Satriani - Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock

Although more than competent, this one has never (yet!) really grabbed me in the way that most other Satch stuff has.

Two real great album. You hear that these are musicians for whom music is their lifeblood:

JP  Down:  Over The Under

The lyrics are quite a challenge, even to proggies. Phil Anselmo has obviously been places where few dare to tread  ;)

Here, try the first few lines of the first song on OTU, Three Suns And One Star:

"All felt is hope to spilling over
Needs are a passing memory fear not worthy
Belief, a martyr's burden
Heaved upon capable shoulders

Dissuade your charge
Arrive in commonplace with the elect
The furthest plateau
Inside the souls of saints

The old dog has to learn a new trick and more
Or the next trick will be on him
I've drank the oceans dry, I've stopped the time
Embraced the riddle of regret"

???

This album is so grating that it took me several runs before I could hear it thru. Now I enjoy it immensely  8)

NP  Queens Of The Stone Age:  Songs For The Deaf

Altho also quite grungy, this album is far more pleasant; also more pleasant than QOTSA's latest, Era Vulgaris - altho I agree with the asumption that we live in a vulgar age:  I think that all people seek immortality in this transient world, but it seems to me that, more and more, people seek it in acquiring and owning things (materialism) - and that I find frightening  :(

Anyone else into this thoughtline ?

NP: The Golden Palominos - Blast of Silence

No idea whatsoever what to expect from this one.  It's the 3rd album from the cheap box set of their first three albums that I got because it included the beloved Visions of Excess.  As previously mentioned, no two Palominos albums resemble each other since the band is really just drummer Anton Fier plus whoever he happens to invite to the studio that day.

Needless to say, that one isn't released in North America yet either.   >:(   If this keeps up, I may just have to move to Europe.  I hear you guys have something called "free health insurance" too, which is another big selling point.  The only real downside I see is that I'd have to import a long-term supply of food that doesn't make small children cry.

You're in luck, I think it's been sent on ahead.  It's been stored in little warehouses with a big golden 'M' outside, which I guess means it's for Manatee.  Don't worry, I won't eat any ;)

NP  QOTSA:  Songs For The Deaf  (on repeat)

Thoroughly enjoying it  *horns*

Good place to start with QOTSA, as it's very melodic and only moderately grungy  ;)

Interesting album concept:  A drive around Southern California, where you hear the various local radio stations. The songs take off more or less from that. The speaking just before the title song (last) is a spoof; I could recognise Natasha's very special voice. Well, I hope she's still with us, but now from the other side  :(

This is what, in my imagination, Nirvana could'v sounded like, had Kurt survived his Sturm-und-Drang. And interestingly, it has Dave Grohl in the mix  8)

Me, I gotta get some Foo Fighters stuff. Dave might'v lived in the shadow of Kurt at the time, but he definitely has some stuff of his own to offer .....
