To be honest, I'm not sure since this is the first PT album I've bought (although it certainly won't be the last).

Blimey mate - you're in for some serious enjoyment in the coming months, I'll wager.  Starting where you have, perhaps 'In Absentia' might be the logical next purchase as it's cut from exactly the same cloth (musically speaking) *horns*

Presumably a different version to the one on 'Lightbulb Sun'?

Yes, it's different. This new version features Gavin Harrison on drums instead of Chris Maitland, and the guitarsolo is different as well.

NP: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing

Thanks to Manatee, it's been a while since I played it last...

Yup, I've heard a few songs from 'In Absentia', and that's what I had in mind for the next, maybe followed by 'Fear of A Blank Planet' or 'Signify' (the title instrumental is fantastic).

NP: Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe
I entirely forgot this even existed, let alone that I owned it.  Had to clean off the case carefully since I'm allergic to dust mite.

Indeed.  In fact, given that I was wondering what I should play next...

Small world.  That album (along with the matching live 'Evening' set) is sitting here waiting to be re-ripped and played.  I originally did it at a low bit-rate when I first bought an mp3 player and didn't really know what I was doing :-[

I prefer the didn't have enough space to rip at a high quality line  ;D

I have spent the last few months re ripping as well which I find very tedious.

I don't need to rediscover old cd's as I have all of you recommending new (and old) music.

Btw, none of you guys seem to have spent much effort on Jeff Buckley. Erik, Iggy, Tom, Mad (I won't name Paxi, cause then he'l just turn away even more), highly recommended  ;)

He's mentioned as a strong influence on Anathema, and you sure can hear it.

He aint no ordinary singer/songwriter, he's a star, in the best sense of the word  8)

Nicky.

I have very nearly listened to him does that count?

It is a case of getting around to him.

Is it best to start with Grace?

Similarly, my butler once met someone whose cousin had listened to him. ;)

Hmm, it has its moments, but I think I can forget I own it again for a couple years.  They've all done better stuff elsewhere, IMO.

Grace is wonderful. But so are Sketches and Mystery White Boy. There is a surprising variation, given that it's his voice and guitar with moderate backing.

But that voice  :o *horns*

Unlike Mr Manatee of this parish, I think the ABWH album is jolly splendid.  I've always liked this one since way back when it came out.  Some tracks (Order of the Universe, Brother of Mine) I'd rate as classic later period Yes.  Even if it's not quite Yes ;)

Frankly, I was never that fond of the later Yes albums, with the exception of some of the stuff with Buggles in it.

I think one reason why I'm hugely into some of it is down to my daughter getting into it years ago.  She was particularly keen on 90125/Big Generator/Talk and was always nicking my CDs.  She even spotted that some of the background music on some levels of the Doom II game sounds similar to a couple of bits of Talk.  All this kind of gave Yes a new lease of life for me.

Wait a minute... Your daughter listens to Yes and plays Doom II???
What kind of daughter is that? ;D

I think you said in an earlier thread that SWMBO plays video games as well.

They don't spend their evenings shooting each other do they?

Eternity - Anathema

I just created an Anathema "station" on Pandora to hear an example of their stuff since they're popular in the Room.  Annoyingly, it was perfectly happy to agree there was such a band to seed a station with, but it didn't feel the need to actually play anything by them.  >:(

NP: Frost* - Milliontown - Black Light Machine
Fortunately, Pandora is willing to play Frost* when you make a Frost* station, although oddly, I've now heard all but one song from Milliontown and nothing at all from the 2nd album.  Is it similar?

:D not at all!
It's totally different from Milliontown!
Still very Frost* strangely... :-\
