"intelligent lyrics"

OK, Bups, all is relative: I meant "intelligent" in relation to what's generally sent out into the ether - radio stuff and general metal. In this regard, Manowar don't do so badly on The Triumph Of Steel.

Re "racist" I don't have an opinion yet.

Myrath - "Tales Of The Sands"

Wow! Really cool Progressive Metal band from Tunisia!

Check them out on YouTube:

Thanks Nicky!

You'r welcome, Paxi  :)

I actually havent heard them for a year, so I guess it's time to give'm a run.

NP  Manowar:  Kings of Metal

Nothing like The Triumph of Steel  :(

Kings is more anthemic, less subtle, and the lyrics are rather banal. I also miss Rhino, who's a monster on drums.

Not gonna dwell long on this one, have two more to go .....

Unto the locust by Machine Head

Like a Black album for this decade  :)

I need to check out Keep of Kalessin or Nicky will shoot me  ;)

Teunis

Just: Arena - Songs From The Lions Cage
Now: Gazpacho - When Earth Lets Go
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'
-------------------------------------------------------
Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

The Butterfly Man

NP: Evanescence - Evanescence

Their new album. I always liked this band and this album isn't a let-down either. Amy Lee's vocals..... I'm in love. :-[ ;D

Buckcherry - Buckcherry

No clever lyrics , no 10 minute long epics just dance around rock and roll baby  ;D

Well, I don't pretend to be a reference in good taste about lyrics since, for instance, I really like those of DT's Count Of Tuscany when everybody seems to find them dull ... :P

NP Magenta - Metamorphosis

Teunis

Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys!
The Reasoning - Acoustically Speaking
Riverside - Memories In My Head

It is  *horns*

Petrucci is so much a philosopher, let him tell a good story once in a while  8)

Events is a great album, vintage DT, and Mike II fits well in, maybe not a groundbreaking album, but I expect the next DT-album will be, once Mike is fully integrated. I also hope and expect that Jordan will be more central in the basic composing process, that guy really has a lot to offer  8)

And to fit into the picture:

NP  Adrenaline Mob  on  YouTube

OK, more A7X than DT, which is expectable for Mike I these days  :)

A third Mike, Orlando, does some nice stuff on guitar, and Russ is, of course  *horns*

I expect that Mike I gradually will move back to the DT-family, just like Dominici and Sherinian, and again do some groundbreaking stuff with some of the guys  ;)

After all, DT is the flagship of prog  *horns*

Btw any of you guys got into Dominici's fabulous O3 Trilogy ?  ;)

NP  Explorers Club:  Fading Fast

The closest to the perfect music piece for me: It has that Floyd-mood, great rhythms, also "explorer" moods (Terry knows how), Matt Bradley has that angelic passionate voice, actually a bit like Jamie (who also sings on the album), and man, when Petrucci sets in with his soloing - whewie  *horns*

Bupie, Funkie, Iggy, Teunis, and Cap, you guys should also hear it. Here's once again:

Subsignal ~ Touchstones

This second album of Subsignal appears to be more balanced that the first episode.
I quite like it. Quite proggy and less metalish then their counterpart Sieges Even but nonetheless quite good.
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

Anaon

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis  ;)

Yes, it's a great piece of music ain't it? I can't get enough of that track. The album's a bit of a hit and miss with me, but that song... :o Pure genius! *horns*

Great! ;D

By the way, it's a great time for coming back to the Shattered Room since:
a. A new Arena album is on the way!
b. We are reviewing all the Arena albums. Beginning with "Songs From The Lions Cage"!

Thanks for the recommendation.

I got the CD and feel that  there is a touch of Drama by Yes in the 1st song.

Great new album by the mighty Three! What a year for (prog) music this is! *horns**horns**horns*

Airbag - All Rights Removed
Höstsonaten - Summereve (I find most instrumental albums quite boring, not this one ::))

now: Nicky's recommendation: Explorer's Club - Fading Fast

Well. I hear a Steve Lukather-alike solo at the beginning, some disco-ish, melodies, nice keyboardsounds and an ending which reminds me of Arena and the singing is okay too. In short: like it *horns*.

Funny that we can't just approach somethin new without all our baggage, we always have to compare new stuff to familiar stuff. Well, up to a certain point: Gradually "new stuff" becomes "familiar stuff", and then it works as a reference for further quests  8)

Well, guess I aint any better  :-[

I started it all with the Floyd comparison, and Petrucci me here and there - guess they'r kinda favorite familiars with me  ;)

But whatever:

Tom, the key to getting the first song is: Focus on the bass. Billy Sheehan is utterly amazing on this track  *horns*

Tracks 3-5 don't seem to be all that memorable, but there are some nice passages here and there.

Anyhows, I'd claim it's a must-have for proggies, simply cuz of the first two songs.

Hey Nicky, I miss your input in the Arena-part of the Room! ;)

Yeah, Arena are definitely still one of my fave groups. If you check my classic songs, there are quite a number of Arena songs there, and Clive, together with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Glenn Tipton, and Roger Waters - what company - holds three places in my Fave categories: as composer, keyboardist, and singer - in that order. And that's not cuz this is an Arena forum, no, I really mean it !

The Visitor and Contagion truly overwhelmed me - and I have a feeling that the new album will too  :)

It's just that there are sooo many great groups now in my pantheon  *horns*

I don't really need to dwell on expectations, I'l wait till I have the album, and then I'l let it work on me, and grow - and I will let you guys know what I think  ;)

Great new album by the mighty Three!

Noted. Thanx, Tom  :)

Played:  Mike Oldfield:  Platinum  *horns*

Paxi, here's another artist I'm sure you'l like. Start with QE2, fabulous album, my fave with Oldfield. Then do Exposed (with a wonderful live version of Tubular Bells), Five Miles Out, Crisis, and Platinum, all great albums  8)

NP  Subsignal  on  YouTube

Thanx for reminding, Mad  8)

Seem more melodic than SE, am I right ?  Could imagine that's what Arno and Markus wanted  :)

Actually, I do like Mike Oldfield! "Tubular Bells", "Hergest Ridge" and "Ommadawn" are really worth listening to. But I also like "Crises" and "Discovery". Even "Tubular Bells II" and "Tubular Bells III" are great! My dad was/is a fan of Mike Oldfield, and listening to him is no punishment at all!

The only two Mike Oldfield I really like are Tubular Bells, Amarok and Ommadawn.
He's a brilliant artist but like al multi-instrumentalists he tends to overdo his capabilities.
