Programme
« on: Fri, 2005-05-13, 12:29:32 »
OK.... I'd like to make a programme for this special tenth anniversary Arena tour. The plan would be to make a full size comic featuring the cartoons from the CD as well as some new adventures.... we would also feature Biogs, profiles etc.
I've been told the only way we can make this work is to try and get some people to advertise in it as well....
I still think it would be a nice product for the tour...

Any thoughts?  :)

First of all: that's a really good idea. Please remember to insert a blank page for autographs (real ones, not printed :) ).

Places to seek for sponsorship that come to my mind:

  • instrument/supplies manufacturers (whatever you guys use, Yamaha, Moog, Epiphone, Fender, Gibson, D'Addario, AKG, etc.)
  • online instrument stores (thomann.de f.e. is fairly well known throughout Europe afaik)
  • Apple
  • the guy who's going to print the book
  • expedia.com
  • the airline you guys use to fly around the world
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Add to that...

Pendragon (rich enough to sponsor a 5-year World Tour, with PD's)
IQ (definitely need the exposure - nobody's ever heard of them)
Pink Floyd (imminent new album, according to the rumours)
Kate Bush (the studio poster needs renewing by now...surely...?)
Jack Daniels (apparently sales have dropped significantly in the last year)
Whiskas / Go Cat
A.N.Other company that wants to jump onto the bandwagon of prog's imminent rise to popularity...

 ;D

That's enough "imminent's" - ed

Hi Clive and group!

My first post here at the forum.  It was great meeting you Clive and the guys at Rosfest albeit brief.  Arena put on a fantastic performance and was worth the price of the whole weekend ticket.  A tour booklet with the comix expanded on sizewise would definately enhance the experience.  Unfortunately cds are so small that such great artwork can be lost sometimes.  Leave room though, for those up, close and sexy photos of yourselves.  People will always want to take you home with them :) Some thoughts in addition to the good ones folks here have mentioned already....

Radio and internet radio sponsorship for sure.
Festivals or gig sites that you have played or will be playing for like Rosfest, Spirit of 66, ....
Music review sites.
Like someone said, any instruments companies you are endorsing.
Productions houses, recording studios you've used in the past.
The bus company that you ride with perhaps.
Artists of the artwork you've used.
I'm not a huge fan of Red Bull but they and the Sobe company sponsor festivals and set up a refrigerator with free products in it for the volunteers and staff of a fest. They sponsored us at the Md. Film Fest. Cuervo Tequila gets around as a sponsor.
Labels your associated with like Inside Out, etc.
Labels that you are not associated with but have cross pollenated with musicians on their label.
Film Fests or projects you may have associations with.  Sundance Channel, etc.

Get yourselves a copy of a Nearfest program booklet and it can give you some skeleton ideas that theyve used.  I'm sure you have the Rosfest booklet.

Is this a free program that's given out with a ticket or is it sold?  I don't know whether it's a good idea for all of the programs, but you might have a special edition program that has a sampler cd(kind of like what Progression Magazine has)  of all your Verglas artists  giving a taste of one or two songs from each.  Kind of incestuous but it would be a good networking experience for your atists at Verglas. I don't think people would mind paying the extra dollar or two.  Some of your artists might also benefit from being sponsors themselves.

In the bios I always like to read something beyond the surface about someone besides chops experience, etc.  Like it was nice to find out that Rob is/was a music therapist, or your interest and associations with film.   Things like that.

Anyway, I wish you guys much success.  It's absolutely great music!!

                     Cheers,
                     Sharon

Lots of good ideas there... :)
Trouble is that many of these set ups consider themselves 'too big' to spend money on a ad in an Arena programme. To be fair, I can't imagine us pronting more than about a thousand of these, so I guess the exposure is rather limited.
Anyway.... we'll keep looking...... so.... if anyone reading this would like a quarter page ad for something, then just let me know  :) ;)

"GFT" may be good for a quarter page - they used to advertise in the CRS mag and that had a circulation of much less than 1000. (probably why they stopped advertising though  ::) ).

Agree that "Inside out" would be a good idea.

That's not out of the realm of possibility.   What's the deadline time Clive?

Also, would you like for me(and I'm sure others here would love to help too from their resources)put the word out to various groups about it?  I think I know the target you're looking for.

Clive, the internet radio station I broadcast for would probably do it, depending on the cost. They'd love to advertise to Arena fans that we play lots of Arena!

Depending on the cost, why offer the fan club the chance to be 'sponsors'.
As I don't know the likely costs its hard to break this down.

Perhaps a Gold, Silver and Bronze package.

Gold - which gets your name in the programme as a supporter and the chance to meet up with the band at a gig of your choice and perhaps get in on the sound check.
Silver - name in the programme, meet with the band
Bronze - name in the programme

Something where fans can support the band (and a great idea) and get something back that doesn't cost the band much.

Oh yes, and sponsors/supporters would get their copy of the programme signed of course.

Jon

Clive...You could even get "Gold Nominees" to 'roadie' for the band...?

A serious suggestion BTW...!

Well, I'm pretty sure some local,  non-famous bands like mine (Signs of One) would be interested in some exposure in a programme read by real prog-fans (depending on the price, of course). They could put an ad for their new release or their website. Maybe even include a CD sample of their songs, why not? Just an idea.

So is anything happening with this Clive?  I was hoping to possibly help in the sponsorship area.  Put an ad in or whatever.  I'm sure if you do it's beyond that point right now, but I hope you indeed did do it.  I would love to just get one even if I don't make it over for one of the gigs.

Give us a link anyway...?

Better late than never (our website was down at that time). Here is the link to my band's website: www.signsofone.com

The site is in French but if you want to get the sound clips, just click on the 8th item from the top on the left of the screen ("Telecharger"). Then, you will see some artwork and the sound clips are just below ("Outlines" is our recent demo and will give you a good idea of what we are doing today, "Here and there now and then" is an home-made album we recorded 3 years ago.
Please sign our guestbook and write me a message here to give your comments.
Thanks!
