First songs I played this year, as I did the years before, were New Years Day (U2) and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Octavarium (both Score DVD).

Now it's time for some brewing prog from down under:

Hemina ~ Synthetic

Haven't heard their last effort but hopefully it will be a tad bit better than this album.
The second song To Conceive a Play (first track is the intro) is marvelous but the other songs often leaves me a bit empty-handed.

Koyaanisqatsy ~ From The Yearning to Burst the Perpetual Circle

Discovered this project/band a few years ago thanks to lastFM and I was stunned.
Progressive metal dosed with classical music.
It may be no surprise that the music you hear is instrumental, and the songs are mostly quite lengthy.
Which is the way I like it.
Unfortunately they only released one album and this is it.

If you want to hear how it sounds, have a look over here.  8)

Don't know both the bands you mention Mad. About the latter one: there are very few instrumental bands/cd's that can keep me interested during the whole album. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Jean Michel Jarre or The Lens (pre-IQ era), don't play it very often. But I'll give the link you mention a try to get an idea :).

np: The Pineapple Thief - Little Man (2006)
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Opeth ~ Pale Communion

They've done it again!
Best album of last year, period. ;)
Amazing album. :)

Yesterday and today I listened a lot to It Bites again.
"Once Around The World" is an absolute masterpiece in my book!
Their debut album is not too bad either.
However, whenever I play their third, I get the feeling that I'd rather be listening to their previous albums.
(or their next albums!)

Pain of Salvation ~ Road Salt Two: Ebony

The two Road Salt albums, Ivory and Ebony, are both highly disappointing albums.
I believe that if i put some effort in it, I can make one decent Road Salt album with the lesser songs on a bonus disc, which is doomed never to be heard again.
Maybe a bit harsh, but these guys can do so much better than this.
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

Porcupine Tree ~ In Absentia

Still one of my favorites PT albums, including the song that introduced me to PT, Trains.
Hopefully, after Hand.Cannot.Erase, Steven Wilson will pick this band out from the refrigerator and do some magic.

jp: Antimatter - Leaving Eden
np: Kayak - Cleopatra ~ The Crown Of Isis
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Demians ~ Mercury

Yep, the new Demians album, provided by our super-talented and multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Chapel.
I should remind you, that he's French.
Not that it's very special.
He just makes good music. ;)

Flying Colors ~ Second Nature

Last one of today.
My head spins from listening to that progressive music.

Just played the latest Flying Colors album again.

But now it's time to end the evening (tomorrow 04:30) with...

You seem to like this EP quite a bit  :)

NP Triumph - The Sport Of Kings

A few standout tracks on this one : Somebody's Out There (minor pop hit, catchy as hell), If Only (nice ballad) and Play With The Fire (great rocker). The rest is solid but unspectacular AOR. Overall, Triumph is a band that I rediscover and it's really pleasant. Nothing prog though.

JP: It Bites - "Once Around The World"
Yes, this is certainly the best It Bites album. And I dare to call this one of the best prog albums of the 80s!
It's super super super catchy! And I play it a lot now that I have it on cd.

NP: Arena - "The Seventh Degree Of Seperation"
I haven't played this for a while. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed by this album. It's so different from other Arena albums. I still think this has to do with the fact that there are hardly any guitar/keyboard solos and that every second of the music is filled with vocals. (Excellent vocals, though!)
These feelings haven't gone away, but I can appreciate it a lot better now. And of course, there is no such thing as a bad Arena album.

I could have given you my copy. Never got used to it and sold it back  :P

I played it recently just after Pepper's Ghost -which is not my favorite Arena album but includes some great tracks- and I was disappointed too. To be honest, I don't plan to play it again in a near future ...

NP Triumph - Allied Forces

Probably the best place to try Triumph ... if somebody else than me might have this strange idea in 2015 !

Demians ~ Mercury

What's it like Mad? Building An Empire still is one of my alltime favourite albums. And then came Mute, I was full of anticipation.......... and then I didn't really like it. ;D So, should I give Mercury a chance?

I agree with you there Paco. I recently listened to every Arena studioalbum and to be honest The Seventh Degree of Separation is in the lower regions if I would rank the albums. It hasn't aged very well with me. It's nice, it's decent, the playing is great, but it's just not a special album (to me) like Contagion or Immortal?. That's not to say it's a bad album - not at all - it's just that Arena themselves have set the standard pretty high. Let's see what they come up with next...

NP: Marillion - A Few Words for the Dead

The lyrics are very appropriate after the events of yesterday. Or you could LOVE... :-*

I definitely do! :)
From the first tunes of Aquarius, their first album, I knew that I would really like this band and that feeling only grew. :)
There are only three tracks on this EP so the playing time is rather short but that's why they invented the repeat button. ;)
Even Mike Portnoy (who? lol) is quite a fan of the band, that's why he participated on the last track the epic Christalissed (see if you can spot his presence in the song.  :P ;D)

Nope, nothing proggy but I always really liked this band.
Have quite a few albums of the band and do play them from time to time.
The Sport of Kings is one of my favorites but albums like Just a Game, Allied Forces and Thunder Seven are also good albums.
Wouldn't call it AOR though.
It's more hard rock that AOR, which is usually a bit more radio friendlier than hard rock.
