Hey Tom, done some Sagoth ? Just because one's got a baby don't mean one's gotta be a pussy ;)

I have, a few times actually. But it's not for me I'm afraid. I don't get it. There are nice melodies, but I can't get past the singing.

I'm really into baby-metal these days. You should try it. :P

With Believe Pendragon started to change a bit but I didn't really like that album.
That was different with both Pure and Passion but now I don't really listen to Passion anymore.
Pure however, is still one of their best albums, especially Indigo is such a gem!

Yes. I love Pure. And I love Indigo as well. And I feel the same about Passion Mad. I can't remember when I played it last. Have to say I'm making progress with Men Who Climb Mountains btw. I was very disappointed after the first few listens but now it's getting better with each spin.

PP Genesis -Three Sides Live

I have the original edition, the one with the previously unreleased studio songs. And I have to confess that (unlike almost everybody else from what I read) I like them, especially Paperlate which is a nice poppy tune that got me impressed some thirty yeas ago.

NP Threshold - Subsurface

Since Mad said that he loves lists, here is my Threshold ranking :

1. Dead Reckoning
2. Subsurface
3. March Of Progress
4. Hypothetical
5. For The Journey
6. Critical Mass

List subject to additions and possible changes when I have listened to other Threshold albums that are on their way home, apart from Psychedelicatessen that I haven't ordered yet.

PH

I also like lists! ;D

My Threshold list would possibly look a bit like this:

1. "For The Journey"
2. "Dead Reckoning"
3. "Subsurface"
4. "March Of Progress"
5. "Hypothetical"
6. "Replica"

Yeah, I REALLY like the new one, it's all that Threshold stands for I guess. Catchiness and heaviness.
And "Dead Reckoning" has long been my favourite. I actually struggled with the first two in this top five. With "Dead Reckoning" everything is right. In my opinion it's a BIG step from "Subsurface", which was my first Threshold album.
"March Of Progress" I think is at least as good as "Subsurface". Again I was in doubt which of the two is the best. "March Of Progress" has a strong first half, where the the last five or six songs took me a long time to grasp.
Then comes "Hypothetical" which I don't play as much as the rest. I do like it when I listen to it, but I bought this album just because of high ratings at the time.
"Replica" is the odd one in this list, because it is labeled as a fanclub release. It actually is a "best of" of some sort. It holds reworked and/or acoustic songs from "Wounded Land", "Extinct Instinct", "Clone", "Hypothetical", "Critical Mass" and "Subsurface" and two 'previously unreleased' songs (Endless Sea and Torn To Shreds) which I particularly like.

I think I need to upgrade my Threshold collection... Probably "Critical Mass" and "Clone" first and work my way back from there.

Here's my Threshold-ranking:

1 - March Of Progress Played this album almost non-stop while making an unforgettable round-trip in Costa Rica. Listening to it brings me back there.
2 - Subsurface What a killer track to start the album with. Mission Profile is in my eyes the very best song Threshold ever wrote.
3 - For The Journey The Box stands out but there's a lot more greatness to be found. Still needs more time to sink in though.
4 - Dead Reckoning The last album with Mac. :( My favourite songs are Pilot in the Sky of Dreams, Safe to Fly and One Degree Down.
5 - Hypothetical The first Threshold-album I owned. And loved it. Still sounds great today.
6 - Critical Mass One word: Titletrack.

NP: Arena - The Unquiet Sky The Seventh Degree of Separation ;D

Devin Townsend - "Z²"

Well, not bad. First listen. Went a bit over my head.
The first disc "Sky Blue" sounds a bit like "Epicloud" 2. Just a bit more epic and a bit more loud I guess. Didn't hear all of it, because after a while I really wanted to listen to the second disc. "Dark Matters" is very fun. Skipped a bit through the songs. Yeah I know, but I just know this album needs to be listened to with full attention.
This IS probably very very good! Yeah, I want to listen to this again. Not now though.

Oh let me just tell you that the packaging is VERY nice!

I don't know what it is between Devin Townsend and me (it's not what you think. No, really, it isn't! :P). I absolutely love Ki and Addicted but the rest of his catalog not so much. However I never heard Epicloud. Can you recommend that album to me?

I saw him with his band live a few weeks ago. They were supporting Flying Colors. Enjoyable concert and good album! :)

This is a true return to form. After The Inner Circle they released 3 albums that left me cold. This album however... *horns* Anyone here into Evergrey?

Tom ... Englund ?  :)

I had a few of their albums (Solitude ..., In Search Of Truth, The Inner Circle, A Night To Remember) bought after listening to some songs from The Inner Circle. I sold them back. I feel that their music lacks substance (yeah, I know it's a rather blurred reproach) and their live album was especially painful to listen to, I have to say  :P So I don't plan to give them another try but maybe I am wrong ...

Well, I can only advice you to listen to their 'single' King of Errors on Youtube and decide for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmmh69G-pt0

NP: Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura
I still consider this to be the very best Neal Morse solo-album. How about a top-5 guys? ;D

Here's mine:
1 - Sola Scriptura What can I say? Amazing album. Best track The Door. That solo at the end! :o *horns*
2 - Testimony 2 Fantastic album, better than Testimony 1. Seeds Of Gold on disc 2 may be the very best song Neal ever wrote.
3 - Songs From November Even the wife likes this one!
4 - ? My introduction to Neal Morse solo. Still a very good album.
5 - Momentum More accessible... Until World Without End.

Actually, that is what I did when I came home yesterday. It gave me the opportunity to compare this video with the latest Threshold one, which led me to the conclusion that Evergrey has more ambition or much more money to spend in making a videoclip  :) King Of Errors reminded me of some songs from The Inner Circle (A Touch Of Blessing for instance) : it's heavy, it's catchy but unfortunately it doesn't move me much. I find that they apply the same formula over and over and I can live with that (Threshold does exactly the same thing in its own style) but only if the formula suits me. And I am not a big fan of Tom Englund's voice neither ...

I can't give a top-5 since I only own Sola Scriptura  :-[ and like it a lot. I listened a few times in a row to Songs From November on progstreaming and it left me cold.

Testimony 2 could be my next try with Neal solo (especially considering your comment above) but of course I am already familiar with his work in Transatlantic and I also own Spock's Beard's V.

What many are unaware of is that R.E.M. were active for 31 years (1980-2011) and made 15 very rich studio albums. That's a pretty good job. Few groups are that productive ;)

Probably, for special occasions, but I think that what will be more interesting is that Michael Stipe will probably make some solo albums or albums in a new constellation 8)
