I was wondering what you would make of the third track.

Yup, I'll tell you, Paxi. I know that I'll have to play the whole album several times now. Also read some background material, like the "Autobiography of a Yogi", and the Vishnu Purana. That's the way I work with great culture.

I can sit it out

You're learning the abilities of a true proggie, Paxi. One important ability is to put one's judgement on hold, take things at face value initially, whatever comes along: strange musical passages, growl, blasts, whatever. Then slowly the structure will emerge, and details fall into place.

If one has categorical turn-offs, then one misses a lot of great music.

Of course, some music is so superficial that one can quickly judge it out.

So freaking GREAT  *horns*

Sorry guys but I have not been such overwhelmed by a metal album since, well, Images & Words maybe.

I agree that it's one of the absolute best, Bupie.

However, I consider that all the DT-albums after I&W are just as fabulous ... and then there's Outworld I, Bal-Sagoth's latest three albums, and Angra's Holy Land.

I like I&W a lot - and if it had been an album by any other group, I would laud it highly - but with Awake, DT reached their apex - and stayed there since  *horns*

Yes, I actually have the first two Transatlantic albums - impelled by you guys - and listened to'm a lot some years ago ... but I'm obviously more hardcore than you guys. I would say that Transatlantic - just like Big Big Train, IQ and other bands you guys listen to - are too loose for my taste.

Take Nine e.g., Bupie. It's clear, sharp and tight as hell. Those guys didn't stop working on their music - again and again - until it was crystal clear, until you couldn't do any more. And if it wasn't good enuff at that point - the apex - well, then they dropped it and started a new track. Until they had Nine super songs  *horns*

And that's what I mean with: Why settle for lesser, when you can get the best. There are so many groups these days making superb music  8)

I actually did listen quite a bit to Scorpions some years ago, Bupie. I had a colleague (what a cumbersome word in English) at the Danish Environmental Reasearch Institute who was a big fan of'm.

I experienced them as rather regular hardrock, and the Gerrrman accent in the singing was a turn-offer for me - it's rather categorical with me ;)

But if you have a couple of good YouTubes for us, then I'd be happy to give'm another turn - on :)

I belong to the minority who actually do play friends' links :P

JP  Disturbed:  The Sickness  (their first studio album, from 2000)

Didn't really grip me. Quite harsh hardrock. Don't usually mind harshness, but missed melody and variation here. Tried instead:

JP  Disturbed:  Believe  (their second, from 2002)

Much better. Music fuller, and lyrics quite intriguing, very religious and seeking.

Disturbed thanked Sevendust in their credits, so I thought me that I should give them a spin, had heard about'm a few times before:

JP  Sevendust:  Seasons

Hm, quite good, lighter and more melodic than Disturbed. Band from Atlanta.

NP  Hm, need a break. Probably I'll play Bal-Sagoth in a while, I have a tendency to gravitate toward them these days. Probably The Chthonic Tales, as I don't have it on cd, and I'm at the library now. BS is a surefire winner  *horns*

Anyone know what Chthonic means ?

....

Hey, Paxi, you cheated, you looked it up ;D

Contagion Max - again!

Current track "Vanishing Act"
I love the keyboard solo in this one! (at 2:57)

I should be careful with this - I don't want the case to get as tatty as my original Contagion case!

A bit dated tho. But I understand your joy, Bupie, you grew up with them, and that creates a special bond ;)

Thanx :)

And the babes were certainly not dated :P

The first is correct, but honestly, if I'v heard these songs, it's so long ago that I can't remember. In my age - 50+ - one is allowed to be a bit senile - but Paxi, don't start again >:(

This is maybe a notch further:

NP  TestAmenT:  Native Blood  *horns*

www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5Ibm8mjSek

[Singer Chuck] Billy is of the Pomo Native Americans, an indigenous people of Northern California. He is proud of his Native American heritage, sometimes giving a shoutout to his "Native brothers and sisters" in the audience. The song "Trail of Tears" is a tribute to his heritage, as are "Allegiance" and "Native Blood". In 2010, Chuck Billy was among those recognized in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian exhibit Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture, which was on display through January 2, 2011.

For the babes, they did better on more recent -but still awfully dated  :)- videos. I used to be very impressed by the one that you can admire on the Rythm Of Love video : I think that she is an actress that I saw in a few movies too.

Scorpions are far from my favorite metal band but they had a bunch of very good albums (In Trance and Lovedrive are my favorite) and a few great songs. I just can't stand Still Loving You and Winds Of Change, though  :P
