Julie Kiss writes great lyrics. Her belcanto contrasts superbly with the heavy jazzy instrumental stuff  8)

Forget Nightwish, After Forever, The Gathering etc, this is the real deal !

Oh, and concerning Explorers Club:

A few years back, when my best man and I had a Saturday afternoon to ourselves, we listenend to that album, cos he's a huge DT fan. I liked the musicianship, even most of the singing. Picky as I am, I stumbled over most of Sherinian's keyboarding, which is perfect in terms of playing and choice of moods, but hey, are those keyboard sounds "cheap". No comparison to Clive, f.e., or Arjen. That's the same btw. for me and Royal Hunt. I borrowed 2 CDs from a friend just to listen to them again (I did already, a few years ago). And the keyboard sounds really turned me down. Again, I would be glad to be able to play like those guys, but I may be petted by what I've been listening to, lately.
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Cap, Sherinian plays a very minor role on Explorers Club's "Age of Impact". The main musicians on AoI are, among others: Petrucci, Sheehan, Bozzio, Trent Gardner (who wrote the lyrics and composed the basic music), Wayne Gardner (his brother), D. C. Cooper and James LaBrie.

Well, it's turned out to be a rather esoteric album. It's one of my top 5, mainly the first two tracks: Fate Speaks, and Fading Fast  *horns*

If one's a Petrucci fan - which I am bigtime - then Age of Impact is an absolute MUST. Master Petrucci conjures up some of his most sublime art on Fading Fast  8)


OK, as to Royal Hunt: Cap, you probably, like everybody else, listened to the early D.C. Cooper albums: Paradox, and Moving Target. Well, the news is (once again): They simply are not up to what RH rose up to with their following albums. If you want to experience RH at their best, then ya gotta go for Collision Course, Fear, The Mission, X, Paper Blood, and Eyewitness - six great albums !

I like DC's singing a lot ... but somehow he impairs André Andersens songwriting abilities. DC is back on RH's most recent album, Show Me How to Live, and it falls down badly after the marvellous X.

It's really sad that we have this amazing group ... and they'r sooo far under the radar. Beats me!
