As you might have noticed, I am in the middle of a shelf clearance session. Which makes me wondering if Peter would let us open a trade/give thread where we could give a list of CD/DVD that we are ready to trade with other Roomies. So I could send some Flower Kings albums to PH and a few Celine Dion to Nicky. What do you think about that, people ?

I would like that. ;D

Mystery - "The World Is A Game"

Sounds really good! It seems that 2012 was probably the best year for Prog for a looooooong time.

Thank you very much but no thank you, Bupie, I think I have the one Celine Dion album that I need  :P :P :P

But ya know, once in a while .... ;)

If you ask me, it's 2008, some real good albums there (e.g. my classic list)  :)

Yes - 90125

The album where I began with Yes ... and where I stopped after an unsuccessful try with one of their classic pre-Tormato albums (don't even remember which one  :P)

Since the band has been often discussed in the Room lately, it made me curious to try them again. So I began in safe territory by re-buying 90125. The album is pretty good, It Can Happen and Changes being my clear favorites. On the other side, I really have trouble with Leave It, its chorus being almost unbearable to my ears.

So the question is where do I go now ? To old glories ? To the rest of Rabin's era ? To the "whole tribe re-"Union ? To the recent outputs ?

And what if I make none of those choices and pick Drama ? That's what I am inclined to do now. Any opinion ?  :)

Well, Bupie, we actually have a Yes thread ... and we actually have been discussing quite a bit there ... the idea of the Room being that we actually share info and listen to each others' links ... but I may be the only one left who has that quaint idea  ???

"90125" is actually very much a one of a kind album. There's not really a Yes album you can compare to that one. I'm not saying it's their best (I think "Close To The Edge" is), but it's pretty unique and a brave album.

I also think that It Can Happen and Changes are my favourites. But I also like Leave It. Must say that the first half of the album (side one, right?) is the better half.

You do have the 2004 remastered edition I hope? Because the a capella version of Leave It is pretty impressive.

Well, don't start with "Tales From Topographic Oceans" or "Close To The Edge". I'd say "The Yes Album" is a pretty rocking album. "Fragile" is no bad start either, I guess. A bit more progressive compared to the former, but with compacter songs than their Prog Rock masterpieces.

That could work. I still need to really listen to that one.

I'm pretty much listening to Neal Morse nonstop at the moment.
"God Won't Give Up", a fantastic Pop/Rock/'Worship' album. I find myself listening to this album multiple times in a row each day. And I just got it last saturday.

Paxi, now you are misleading. I think you should wait with Yes tips till you've been more around their catalogue.

I'm pretty well into Yes, Iggy is more.

Most Yes fans consider 90125 a rather unimportant Yes album, a bit of a sellout, but it gave good finances for further serious albums, the first being Talk (to some extent Union).

Listen to Talk, and you'll hear the difference - a BIG one ;-)

Thanks to PH for his detailed answer (yes, I have the 2004 edition) and to Nicky for reminding me of the Yes thread that I had read not so long ago but did not check again before asking. I should have posted there indeed but I think that it is better to post at the wrong place than not to post at all  :) And I think that Talk and Drama will be my next purchases.

Nicky,

whenever I come to the room, I listen to whatever has been posted, if I can find it on the net. When I hear stuff that impresses me, I post, be it a good or a bad impression. I seldomly come up with new stuff because I'm not that type of guy, basically. You and the guys in here are my primary source. Leprous, f.e., was a very good hint, lately. That's exactly my sort of thing.

So let me express this here: I am very thankful for all the input, be it from you, or PH, or maddie, or Bupie. Keep it coming. I'm also pretty sure that we have a lot of "invisible" readers.

Nicky, ...

Thanx, Cap. I've actually noticed that you do respond.

I hadn't thought of the "invisible" readers - hm .....  :)

I just feel that with the passion and expertise of the active Roomies that I know is there, we could have much more focussed and substantial discussions and exchanges than we have in actual fact. Instead, one Roomie speaks in the East, the next talks in the West, etc, and we end up with discouragingly little. That's what I mean with "kindergarten". Man, we're all adults and have responsiblities we have to live up to in family and society. Can't we also be responsible in the Room ?

NP Gamma Ray - Blast From The Past

Hum, this is a highly praised best-of but it does very little for me. I guess Deenfan would have a different opinion. I liked his atypical view on Helloween's discography a lot ... though I am not too keen on Helloween either  :P

maddox

Guys, I try to listen to all of the songs you post here, youtube-links or not.
I don't want to be limited to just one music-type, I really digest almost all of the progressive rock sorts, either if its prog-metal, or math-metal or just the plain ol' progressive rock, but when it comes down to it, its all about time.

A day has only 24 hours, a cliché I know but it's true.
Add it with two kids, a household, a three-shifts job, other forums as well, and you end up a little short of time. Yes, I've said it before...

Discussion, I admit, was never one of my strong sides, and like I said before I try to read most of your comments and I try to keep up with some of you, but it's not that I don't care to post anything substantial at all.

Then you should also try out their "brother in arms", To-Mera, some of the same musicians both places.

Try the two links I posted recently - real good stuff, man  *horns*

See, that's another thing, Cap: People nowadays don't wanna take guidance from the experienced. They think that they can find stuff by following their own intuition. Yes, true, but it can take an awful long time - I see a lotta (in my eyes, unnecessary) trial and error in the Room.

I'v always been a methodological guy, I go very much with the pundits, I read up and try a lotta stuff ... and in prog I think my extensive LP testifies to where that approach got me  ;)

And I haven't bought one useless cd the past five years  :)

So, that was the sermon for today. Maybe I'm just gettin old and grumpy. Leave the world to the playground of the youth.

So, off to Copenhell now ....  *horns*

Still, dear Nicky, I think it's a matter of taste. Like you, I haven't bought a cd I don't like in the past five years. And most of those cd's are bands that you don't like, or find boring.
It works both ways of course.
