Not much Vangelis here in the Room... :'(

Maybe not, but I'v listened a lot to Jon & Vangelis, and I have the entire collection. Many wonderful songs  *horns*

I enjoy a good Vangelis song now and then, but if I play an album by him, I get bored to death, just doesnt suit my temperament  :)

I attempted to listen to an album by Nile but thought it was unlistenable when the "singing" started - yuck

Yeah, I'v also tried several times to get into Nile, but I too give up after a coupl'o tracks. Good to hear that I'm not the only metalhead who has problems with'm  :)

I haven't heard that one. My brother was a huge Vangelis fan in the 70's but took his collection with him when he moved to Austalia. I am slowly buying them when they are cheap.   :P

So far I have Best of, China, Heaven and Hell and Albedo 0.39.

Of those three, I have "Albedo 0.39" which isn't bad.
Though, my favourite albums of Vangelis are the soundtrack albums "1942: Conquest Of Paradise" and "Blade Runner" along with "Voices".
"Heaven And Hell" is often called the most Progressive of his albums. I've heard bits and pieces that weren't bad, but still I prefer the aforementioned.

Seriously, "Blade Runner" (especially the 30th Anniversary edition, which I got) is very intriguing music. Lots of cool ideas and mysterious and haunting sounds and 'soundscapes'. Get it now! ;)

Jean Michel Jarre - Les Chants Magnetiqies although when I was a kid I was sure it was called Magnetic Fields.

Draco chimera

Muse, Survival. It's their latest single. There is a nice symphonic intro, and then the song starts. And for the first half, it really sounds like Queen. Oddly, it has been chosen as the official anthem for the Olympics. I say oddly, because I believe the lyrics sound quite agressive - the "protagonist" basically says he is prepared to do anything to survive, that he won't forgive, etc. I don't think it fits with the "fairplay" spirit the Olympics claim to have. I think the lyrics are subject to debate: I see a second meaning in them, an attack on a free-for-all lifestyle that sacrifices what make us human to serve one's purposes. The threatening choirs in the back and the agressive guitar further evoke the subversive aspect of the song. At least, that's my view on its meaning.
Let your conscience decide !

NP Touchstone - Wintercoast

This band has been my discovery of the year : they really have something special  *horns*

Nicky007

A good way to get to know a band better is to go back to their first album, and simply play their albums in order. I'm doin that with Marillion. I'v now played Jester and Fugazi twice, read all the liner notes, and dwelled by the lyrics. Very enjoyable and inspiring  *horns*

I'l proceed, and I'm even planning to cross over into H-Marillion  ;)

Honestly, I'm not too hot on the H stuff. But I'l spend some time on it this time around. I have the five Fish studio albums (incl. B'Sides) and six H studio albums. Let's see .....

I better not say that  :o

NP  Marillion:  Misplaced Childhood

Surprised ?  ;D

This one I know better than the others, so I'l only play it once this time around.

I actually also have Fish's Return To Childhood from 2006, but I'l skip that one and instead concentrate on the Marillion albums  :)

I started listening to it properly last night but didn't get to the end so it is a bit early to tell but it certainly hasn't gripped me yet.

Probably does. I'v played a lotta Rush during recent years. I enjoyed their pre-Arrows stuff, and then came Snakes & Arrows, and Rush became a real passion with me. Clockwork Angels is (im)possibly even better  *horns*

So yeah, be patient, guys. You'r dealin with one of the greatest rock groups around. And get into Neil Peart's lyrics too, and Geddy Lee's vivid delivery of'm  ;)
