Teunis, I'm sure that when you (and others) have played these videos thru, your opinion(s) on Yes will have changed  ;)
Thanks for the links Nicky. I have to admit these tracks are bearable ;). Not bad at all. I remember that I owned the album 'Union', found that it really sucked and gave it away to a friend who likes Yes. Tried more stuff (don't know what though) and still didn't like that. Maybe not the right albums ::).

I actually quite liked Union when I got it some six years ago. It's very uneven, but has some lovely melodic passages. The guys didnt get along well with each other at the time, so the album had to be patched together, but the result turned out surprisingly good  8)

NP  Genesis:  Self-titled

This is the album where they left progressive and turned disco. (Abacab is the transition album.) With this in mind, it's an excellent album. They'r still a lot better than most any other disco group. And the lyrics are quite good too  8)

PP Simon Phillips - Another Lifetime Simon under his own name created a bunch of jazz rock albums. I am not so found of this one, even if it has some great bits here and there.

JF Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here  Which sends me back to your debate about Yes and Genesis. If the question was Yes or Genesis or Pink Floyd, who would you pick ?

NP Nothing at the moment and I am missing it.

The thing is Nicky is that variety is the spice of life plus i am easily bored so listening to different styles of music keeps me enthused

Still on Gojira plus -

Abbey Road - the fab four at their very best
Beneath the remains/Arise - my fave 2 albums by the Seps

Next on my "must listen to" list is various ones by Death and Meshuggah

Well, this album and the next one ("Invisible Touch") are disco influenced, but "We Can't Dance" is no disco anymore. Not a 'back to form' as such, but quite some nice pop/rock tunes and a few prog songs as well. "Calling All Stations" is no disco either. A very nice and underrated album that one.

Quote from: Bupie on Tue, 2012-05-08, 15:42:18JF Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here  Which sends me back to your debate about Yes and Genesis. If the question was Yes or Genesis or Pink Floyd, who would you pick ?

I'd still choose Genesis. I hardly play any of the early or late Pink Floyd stuff. Just the middle period: "The Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and "The Wall".

With Yes it is anything but the (large) middle period. ;D I like their latest album and (parts of) "Fragile", "Close To The Edge" and "Tales From Topographic Oceans".

With Genesis I can play any album and not getting tired of it. With the exception of "From Genesis To Revelations", mostly because of the production and 'early sound' and "Genesis", which is indeed a disco album.

Quote from: Teunis on Tue, 2012-05-08, 18:49:45Really like Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea  8)

Yes, me too. And Mama is alright too, but the rest is not so good. :(

They should have made this album:

1. Mama (6:46)
2. Home By The Sea (4:46)
3. Second Home By The Sea (6:22)
4. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight (8:53)
5. Land Of Confusion (4:45)
6. Domino (10:44)
7. The Brazilian (4:50)

Length: 47:06

They could even call it "Invisible Genesis", or "Genesis Touch". ;)

In that case it's gotta be Floyd. I consider Beatles to be the greatest rock group overall - they created rock after all (and prog and whatever), from rock'n'roll (dance music) and blues (oh man, life is sooo unjust, and I'm suffering sooo much) - and on second place has gotta be Floyd  *horns*

After that it's debatable whether it's Zep, Yes, or DT, even Stones could land here, imo  ???

Genesis:  Invisible Touch

Better than I thought. Disco, yes, but along the way it rises above ordinary disco, and some of the lyrics engage me. Genesis can't help being progressive, after all  8)

I like Nick's drumming very much on this one.

I was listening to classic Kaipa:
"Kaipa" (from 1975)
"Inget Nytt Under Solen" (from 1976)

Both in Swedish vocals and both excellent prog albums. I really love it!
I have not listened that much to the third album "Solo", so I can't say if it's good. After that, they went 'pop' for two albums. And in 2002 they reformed with a different line-up, with only two founding members: Hans Lundin, and... Roine Stolt! They made again some brilliant albums, but their sound is very different from the 70s albums.

Anyone else who likes Kaipa, and especially the classic Kaipa albums?

NP  Genesis:  ...And Then There Were Three

I was so ashamed that I only recognised the first two songs, Down And Out and Undertow, that I played the album thru three times. So now I know it - somewhat  ;)

Great stuff !  (Otherwise I wouldnt have played it thrice.) Tony Banks is the main songwriter here, and he's a fine composer and lyricist  *horns*

After Three, Phil and Mike would gradually take over, Genesis would become more rhythm oriented, and lose their invisible touch  ;)
