NP  Lita Ford:  Lita

Top-rate for an album from 1988, rocks bigtime  *horns*

Lita's gone real metal lately. She did Sweden Rock in 2009, which really means somethin, as this is about as male as it can get, and she released her Wicked Wonderland same year. Gotta get this album soon .....

Curious to hear stuff like "Went to a party last Saturday night, I didn't get laid, I got in a fight uh-huh" and, "Stay with me, baby, I don't wanna make love to nobody else" sung by a babe in metalworld (to a/us guy/s), altho "Don't think I'm easy, I wasn't born blonde" is pretty nifty  ;)

Nicky.

Listening to Metal Works by Judas Priest

Great that you'r tryin out Priest, Paxi, but I don't think that you'l enjoy pre-1990-Priest much  :-\

Instead I suggest that you go directly to Nostradamus, which has a lot to offer to a person like you  ;)

Nostra is a unique album, even for The Priest, man  *horns*

I'v written a lot about it earlier in the Room (should we say ad nauseam  ;D ), probably mainly during your hiatus  :)

Trivium:  In Waves

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xfvk028Kv0

A tremendous piece  *horns*

Get thru the first short sequences of ambience and growl, and you have melody galore  ;)

And btw guys, post-2006-Trivium abound with melody  ;)

You may think it's strange that, me being so hooked on melody, I go so much for extreme and growly stuff. Well, the answer is simple, guys: I find melody where other people are at sea  ;)

Guess that's my 007 thingy  ;D

Hey Teunis, it seems that you are in a Toto mood these days. Did you go and see them in Amsterdam ? I saw them in Lyon last tuesday and they were awesome  *horns* At first I was not ready to go then the opportunity to meet an old friend decided me. I am so glad I went. Joseph Williams is IMHO the best singer by far in Toto's history and the band was tight and sober. Danced all night and Home of the Brave killed me more than ever !

Also this Amazon user review made me happy (edited by me):

By Justin Gaines "Corporate Rocker" (Northern Virginia)

Gary Hughes and company are back with a new Ten album. Their latest, titled Stormwarning, is the ninth album from this long-running melodic rock band. This time around, Hughes enlisted the services of Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) on drums, Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) on mixing and production duties and renowned fantasy artist Luis Royo, who is responsible for most of Ten's most memorable cover images.

All the signs pointed to Stormwarning being a triumphant return to the classic Ten sound, and the band does not disappoint. Solidly between the commercial AOR of the early albums and the more epic melodic rock of Spellbound and Twilight Chronicles, Stormwarning has classic melodic rock sound reminiscent of Magnum and Rainbow. Hughes' songwriting is impressive as ever, and his warm, rich voice just fantastic. Paul Hodson's keyboard work is also very impressive (I'd love to see another solo album from that guy).

As much as I've enjoyed the last few Ten albums, Stormwarning is by far the band's best work in quite a while. The band sounds absolutely incredible here, and all of the details from the production to the cover artwork have been handled with impeccable style and precision. If you've never heard Ten, you're in for a treat. If the band has somehow dropped off your radar of late, Stormwarning will make you a Ten fan all over again!

I like listening to Painkiller now and then. A Touch Of Evil is a tremendous classic, and as I see it, the real beginning of Priest as a groundbreaking progmetal group.

The earlier albums I listen to cuz I'm a big Priest fan  ;D ;)

Hey wait a minute, Nicky .....

;D

Played some great albums:

Threshold:  Critical Mass  (2002)

Probably my fave Threshold album. All songs bring joy to me, but particularly the last wonderfully melodic ones. And Mac's singing goes directly to my heart. Sad that he stopped with Threshold.

Arcturus:  Sham Mirrors

First listens. Amazing stuff, highly original, also very melodic.

Mad, if I remember correctly, you too like this album a lot  ;)

Here guys, try this fine song, with the mindblowing central instrumental part:

I think that Funky, Iggy, Tom, and Mad could go for'm  ;)

Hm, this turned out to be quite a monster post  :-[

Glad you had a great time. I've heard/read Joseph hits the notes this time, in the eighties his voice was really bad live at gigs. I always have loved Steve Lukather's vocals. Kingdom of Desire was and always will stay my favourite album  8). I didn't go this time. Tickets were sold out very soon, so I'll have to wait for the DVD ;).

I can actually follow you a bit there, Bups:  I have a colleague who's Toto(lly), so we've been doin some Toto cult on occasion. He's got a good set in his big workshop, so sometimes we rock the whole house, so our bosses get a bit'o'a change from Frank Sinatra and Dolly Parton  ;)

Unfortunately I havent found any colleague (what a silly spelling  ::) ) who's really into progmetal, hard to find in established Denmark  :-\

Kinda makes me a bit'o an anarchist here - which I really aint - or if I am, it's a back-to-the-closet anarchist  ;D

OK guys, here it is:

Ten:  Stormwarning   www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYiUR_x3mi0

Man, just those first synths - hey, crank it up  *horns*

Now, if ya don't start bangin yer heads (with whatever is left on the roof) and rockin ... well, then I'd say: Ya don't belong here  ;)

Here's a guy who's got metal right up to his finger tips - and who gives a sh* about what the establishment thinks  8)

It's actually a bit back to Babylon  ;)

And whew, that Zonderbar drummin  :)

And here's a real Gary Hughes rocker:

Ten:  Invisible    www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3Mx0UhHpnY&NR=1

Actually this review is spot-on, altho my fave is still Twilight, and as you know, I also like Essential a lot (edited by me):

New Ten album: the best since Babylon

By M. Amos "martin amos" (UK)

It's been nearly five years since the last Ten CD  The Twilight Chronicles, which I thought was a good album, but seemed to be too progressive (long-winded) for many tastes. Mixed reviews and patchy production on releases surrounding Twilight - The Essential Collection and Veritas - sent Ten songwriter Gary Hughes into the wilderness.

Almost unexpectedly he's back with a new incarnation of Ten, adding Neil Fraser (Lead Guitars), Mark Sumner (Bass Guitar) and Mark Zonder (Drums) and retaining existing members John Halliwell (Guitars) and Paul Hodson (Keyboards).

As a comeback album Stormwarning is superb. Excellent crisp production by Dennis Ward and fantastic cover artwork by Luis Royo raise expectations that are not disappointed. The songs are all really strong this time out, and are the best set of material since Babylon (2000).
