So, Paxi, when are ya gonna venture past the safe haven of DT into the dangerrrous world of metal  ;)

So now all of a sudden, DT isn't metal anymore?
You still looking forward to their upcoming album then? ;D

Listening to:
Kaipa - "In The Wake Of Evolution"
1. In The Wake Of Evolution

I remember being still in discovery phase regarding this band. That was a really awesome time for me, 'cos this band is so good!
One of the best 2010 albums for me by the way!

Of course DT are metal, in fact brilliant metal, and they are even dangerous at times - like a true metal group should be  ;)

But for some reason that I don't understand, DT are comme il faut in broad prog circles, while e.g. Judas Priest and Opeth aint, altho they are equally brilliant and equally prog  ???

Admittedly Nevermore are harsher, and thus harder to get into  :)

Of course, very much so  *horns* :P

I'm gonna miss Mike I, but I'm very curious about what Mike II is gonna contribute with  8)

I played some of it. I like all that energy, and I think it's great that they made it all accessible for free on YouTube. I'm sure they'r real genuine and in it for the music, and not for the money. (Guess they have enuff to live quite comfortably by now.)

It just doesnt seem to me like they'v put so much effort into making their songs. My guess is that Dave - or some other guy in the group - started strumming or riffing casually, the other guys got into it, and they quickly got a song banged together, smacked some straightforward lyrics to it  :-\

I'm not sayin that Kurt worked long and hard to get his songs together, but he emerged at the time with a unique energy and total commitment, which had its prog value  *horns*

Dave has, probably genuinely, tried to extend that energy ... but a lot has happened since Nirvana, and we (read: critical proggie listeners) need somethin else now  ;)

Well, that's my take on it. If anyone disagrees, then let us hear  :)

I do like Dave's contribution to Them Crooked Vultures, a pantheon group with me, but here he's also in an entirely different company  ;)

???

Hey Tom, did you give it a proper chance ?

You know, it is very special and requires some tuning in  ;)

Iac I'm a real succor for this song  :)

I like the commentary by Thequornhunt (must be a veggie) right under the YouTube video:

"My goodness. My godness. But are they known today outside Scandinavia and the UK? Everybody's always copied them and yet no credit has been given. For me, Indescreet and Kimono my house opened my eyes to music, as did in a way Sweet with Fanny Adams. And this is my absolute favourite. Thanks Sparks. Some of us will never forget =D"

Right, Sparks is probably the most uncredited group eva in rock history  :(

But what do I care really: They made these fantastic songs on Kimono, Indiscreet, and Propaganda, and they bring joy again and again to those of us who go straight for the real thing - and avoid getting misled by commercial TV and radio  ;)

And Tom, if there's anythin with age, then it's that it's harder to trick me today than thirty years ago, e.g. convince me that somethin is innovative. And I go more for special stuff than I did earlier. You know, I'v heard quite a lotta music by now  ;)

But OK, how about this one then, also one of my rock faves:

Sparks:  Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth    www.youtube.com/watch?v=haf5s0b--zw

You even got a marshie introducing the performance  ;D

Man, I can see that wonderful video over and over, sooo much melody and pure joy  *horns*

Am I the only one who digs Sparks ?  Whew, I really like those three albums from their classic era  8)

Okay Tom, I'm pretty sure you'l like this one iac, and ya gotta get to know this fantabulous metal band - man:

Negura Bunget:  Dacia Hiperboreana    www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPQY1M1s-RI

Negura can be a lot more sophisticated, but there's some pristine beauty in these relatively simple moods  :)

I'v posted the song several times before, in the Room and on FB ... well, iac here ya have another chance  ;)

Tonight i will be giving the first Black Country Communion album a spin

Hey Funky, what's that ?

...

OK, found the answer myself:

"Black Country Communion is an English-American rock supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, Derek Sherinian, and Joe Bonamassa." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Country_Communion

Next question: What'r they like ?

NP  Futures End:  Your Decay  *horns*

www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8wpMka6zN8&NR=1

From Wikipedia:

Futures End is a Californian progressive metal band formed by guitarists Christian Wentz and Marc Pattison.

Once their first few demos were completed, Fred Marshall, formerly of progressive metal band Zero Hour, was chosen to be their vocalist for his powerful vocals and great melodic sense. Shortly thereafter, bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, Iced Earth) and drummer Jon Allen (Testament, Sadus) came on board to complete Futures End.

Their music has been compared to bands such as Symphony X, Testament, and Alice In Chains.

The band's debut album, Memoirs of a Broken Man, was released in October 2009 under Nightmare Records to considerable critical acclaim from the heavy metal community. That same year, the album was voted 'Best Progressive Metal Album of 2009' in USA Progressive Music Magazine's annual poll, beating fellow contestants Redemption, Shadow Gallery, Edgend, and progressive metal giants Dream Theater.

It's correct that their lyrics express devotion to their country (USA), but I think that they do it in a nice way. I consider that the US-Americans have good reasons to be proud of their country  :)

Why should only Frenchies be allowed to be chauvinistic, Bups ?  ;D

Instead I want you all to know what I'm listening to (that's what this topic is about after all):

Dream Theater - "Awake"

James LaBrie has progressed a lot since and after this album. But this album is already very nice. Very dark too.
