Gorillaz:  Demon Days

Blur never really gripped me, so Damon surprised me bigtime here: Guys, Demon Days is really great, a lot better than you would expect from all the mainstream buzz. I also played it with headphones, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, a lot more than Coldplay & Co. Much invention and care has been put into this album too.

I have to get some more Gorillaz albums  :)

I agree, Demon Days is great indeed, so is their selftitled debut.

Poker is way too dificult for me.  :o :-\ ;)

QuoteNP  Keep of Kalessin:  Reptilian  (on repeat)

I simply can't get that stuff outta my head  *horns*

Last time I was so spellbound was with Haken's Aquarius, another *horns* album.

Mad, have you gotten around to listening to some KoK ?

Nicky.

Actually I did, thanks to youtube.

Like the music but the singer fails to impress me.
Not growls, not normal vocals...something in between.
It has potential though.

Thanks for sharing it with us. ;)

Don't know that one.  :-\ :o

Old school heavy metal.
It surprises me to hear how much a band like Mind's Eye is influenced by Rage.

The vocals may not be great - I havent actually thought about that - but they fit very well into the music. In fact I find the group very tight. (Took Obsidian C. a long time to find the right guys.)  8)

What I really like about KoK is the combination of raw with a lotta melody and atmosphere (there's a surprising amount of keys for this genre). Guys, listen in to all that melody  ;)

Then the vocals will fall into place, and you won't think about it anymore.

I guess a bit like DT and Jamie  ;)

Altho I find the entire album great, from A to Z, particularly the last track Reptilian Majesty is awesome - it's also Obsidian C.'s fave KoK piece. Go directly to that, play it thru a couple of times, and you'l see what I mean  :)

Be a bit patient initially (I know it's hard for you guys  ;) ), cuz the first 4 minutes are pretty rough. But then  8) 8) 8)

I must say that I find PT a lot more exciting than Blackfield  :-\

But OK, a lotta great musicians have pet projects that often are more fun for the musicians than for the audience. Just look at what Percy is doin these days  ;)

So, I sat myself down on the chair behind (figure of speech) the PC and pushed the 'play' button.

What I encountered then was a helluva ride!!!

Indeed, especially the first minutes its chaos optima forma but after that it relaxes a little.
I quite like the 'normal' parts of that track, the chaos I can do without, although it somehow reminds me of Axamenta (Belgian symphonic black metal band) from time to time.

Like I said, musically it's ... quite okay but the vocals ....  :o

How did Peter so gently put it?

Oh yeah. ... KOTZ.  :-[

Since I was talking about Axamenta, why not sharing it with you?

I'm now curious to hear Tom's take  ;)

Blackfield II

Well, obviously Steven has this ambient, poppy side, which goes back to his roots ... but I certainly like his rocky stuff a lot more, particularly Deadwing, which is my fave PT album. Takes some time to get into (did for me) ... but then it's point-blank - ainit guys ?  *horns*

Killswitch Engage:  Self-titled

Their first, from 2000. Obviously Jesse Leach is a proficient singer, but I don't experience much music on this album  :-\

But OK, I will listen to some later KE albums .....

One word: Masterpiece! *horns*

NP: Blackfield - Blackfield

Like Nicky I like Porcupine Tree more than Blackfield, but still Blackfield are among my favourite bands. Most of the songs are quite short but there's still a helluva (thanks Mad ;D) lot to enjoy. I'm not overly impressed with Aviv's singing though.

Looking forward to Blackfield 3! 8)

Steven is a true artist, and a great guy. He goes by inspiration, one day giving a hand to Mikael Å and his crazy gang, the other day doing pop with Aviv in Tel Aviv.

So some people like his heavy stuff (like me (ther're even some people who like me  ;D )), and others like his poppy stuff ... and some like both, (I) like you, Tom  ;)

NP  Seventh Wonder:  The Great Escape

There's maybe a bit too much balladeering to my taste. They'r really best when they blow the roof off, like in Alley Cat. Guess they'r eager to consolidate Tommy as their singer now. That will always be an ambivalent matter, cuz Andi was so fabulous. Tommy is excellent too tho  :)

But great album indeed  *horns*

I have to say, apart from Alley Cat this album is doing absolutely nothing for me (yet). Sure, there are some wonderful passages but especially the last track is so hard to get through. It's like they just decided to make a 30-minute piece and threw some random ideas together. It sounds really disjointed to me. :-\

Tom, you should get Søren Huus' recent album Troen & Ingen (Faith & None). It's supposed to be very good. It's based on his healing process following the tragic death of his wife in a traffic accident, which also mangled his little daughter severely.

You should learn Danish first, to get the full benefit of the album  ;)

Yes,  I got a lot different musicstyles. I've also got Eyes on the highway by Saybia.
I really like their style. I also like nightwish also a skandinavian band.
I believe there's a lot of good musically potential in scandinavia!  *horns*

Yeah I believe that the death of his wife ultimately led to the hiatus Saybia is in right now, although I seem to remember reading somewhere that they are ready to begin writing the follow-up to Eyes On The Highway quite recently. But I had no idea that Søren had put out a solo-album, so thanks (again) Nicky. I'm very interested in hearing this. I immediately went to some online-stores but sadly none of them seem to have the album so I'll just keep on searching...

Nah, I guess I'll just let the music, the melodies and the voice itself do the talking, hvis det er okay med dig. ;) I hope Google Translate didn't mess up what I'm trying to say...
