To-Mera have a frontwoman, Julie Kiss, but you guys don't hate women, do ya ? (not like the Stieg Larsson character). In fact this could be the reason for Bups to get into To-Mera: Julie is Hungarian and hot, real hot  :-*

Not only for Bups, Nicky...  :o ;D Besides, I've been looking for Hungarian artists since I'm back from Budapest. ;)

NP: North Atlantic Oscillation - Grappling Hooks

NAO is a British 'alt-prog' band, a bit like Mew and Pure Reason Revolution. The music is electronic and poppy with a proggy twist and it rocks! 8) There are no Hungarian women involved though...

Musically this is the best Anubis album. Aint that right, Mad ?

Here, try this track from Andromeda:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDcbxcbWG9E

Tom, I simply can't understand how you can live without Anubis Gate and To-Mera - and on top of it in the midst of the marsh. You don't even have Bluey to keep ya company  :o

Guys, I just found another great Norwegian melodic progmetal group, Illusion Suite. Try this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3p1yT1XRbw&NR=1

Man, these Norwegians !  They'r only 4 million people, but they have sooooo many great metal bands. You'd think that everybody and his brother, and his father and uncle and grandfather, was playing in one or several metal groups  *horns*

I thought they were running around in the mountains chasing goats ... but they seem to have time for metal too  ;D

Btw, what happened to our Deanie ?  Did his goats go off, so he's now ramblin round the mountains chasin goats ?  I'm missin some black humor here - altho Tom manages pretty well too  ;)

QuoteHere, try this track from Andromeda:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDcbxcbWG9E

Interesting. The second half of the song is great, I'm not so sure about the first part though. But based on this song Anubis Gate clearly deserves my attention. ;D ;)

Quote...You don't even have Bluey to keep ya company  :o

Yeah I wonder what she's up to!

NP: Solar - Dark Places

Although Paul Manzi sounds like a good replacement I'll miss Rob Sowden as the voice of Arena. He's by far my favourite vocalist Arena ever had, and a really nice guy as well. *horns*

NP   Death:  To Forgive is to Suffer  (on repeat)

youtube.com/watch?v=1loaJs_Dah4&feature=related  8)

I don't like the idea of giving a band such a name, but we can't escape the fact that this band was groundbreaking and has strongly influenced many Room staples  *horns*

Funky, I think you know this  :)

You have to listen to Death's music in a different way than with e.g. Arena. While Arena has lotta melody, catchy rhythms, hooks, all that stuff that we immediately love, Death requires a high measure of deliberate work on the part of the listener. You have to follow all the musical lines and see how they blend and transform  ;)

You won't be disappointed, Tom, trust me  ;)

I actually consider To-Mera just as exciting as Haken, in a different way tho. To-Mera don't have all those delicious hooks and atmospheres that Haken (and DT) have, but careful listening reveals some resplendent treasures  8)

Whewee, lotta hot paprika there  :-* :-* :-*

Interesting. The second half of the song is great, I'm not so sure about the first part though.

Now that you mention it, I'm not that hot on Jacob Hansen as singer. Maybe he grows with time  :-\

But he's a great producer, he's produced many great Danish metal albums  *horns*

And as you noted, the second half of the song is eminent  8)

Anubis' Andromeda Unchained and The Departed are already classics in progmetalworld (internationally)  ;)

I'm don't find Dark Places musically all that exciting, but it's a very personal, revealing album, and therefore has merit for Arena fans. Rob was definitely my voice of Arena  *horns*

Kingcrow ~ Phlegethon

Wow, wow, wow! :o You mentioned that album a couple of times now, so I became interested last weekend and searched for Kingcrow on Last.fm (http://www.last.fm/music/Kingcrow) where you can listen to some tracks, one of them is called Evasion. I thought that was a great track and after reading some reviews I bought Phlegethon. I listened to it a few times yesterday and I think it's excellent (Italian) progmetal!

Thanks Mad! *horns*

You're very welcome!

Nicky.

Death are one of the most important bands in metal history and from their early "gore" beginnings they developed into a progressive death metal band  who influenced countless bands.

They are not always easy listening - gruff vocals , strange time changes and no real hooks BUT
with some persevering there are some real gems to be discovered.

Also worth checking out are Control denied which was still Chuck's songs but with a clean vocalist.

Thanx for the tip, Funky. Got The Fragile Art Of Existence on my SL now  :)

Played:

The Killers:   Sam's Town   Day & Age

Sound a lot like Coldplay. Guess that's what hits these days  :-\

Gorillaz:  Demon Days

Far more interesting. Very imaginative, and rocks now and then  8)

TwilightMoonReviews really raves about The Detached on Metal Archives, calling it "Literally Perfect - 100%."

www.metal-archives.com/review.php?id=231260

Here are some excerpts:

"To the thousands of metal fans who constantly speak of their belief that no album is perfect, I have only this to say to you: don't listen to this album, because it will change everything you thought you knew about music. I'm not afraid to say it: Anubis Gate's The Detached is absolutely perfect in every conceivable way imaginable. It may not be favorite album of all time, but there's no denying it this honor. It truly sounds like noone else and any comparisons would be unfair, because, clearly, no other band playing music today is this talented or original. Don't miss out like so many others will. Attach yourself to this masterpiece.

Even the lyrics are a bit better this time around. They still dwell in galactic themes, but now they've been merged with more advanced elements such as cellular experiments, The whole album is unsurprisingly a concept, and thats made more obvious by having all the songs sound related. Sure they have little intros and interludes of talking or random actions occurring, but where the concept really works best, linking it all together, is in its use of little parts of previous songs in later ones ... The songs are certainly not detached from each other, and I love The Detached more for it."

NP: Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR

Such a diverse album. It has prog, folk, (death)metal, even some pop, and all this is presented in a nice oriental setting. Also, Steven Wilson's keyboardplaying is a great addition to this album.

BTW, I just discovered that Orphaned Land plays a gig in Holland together with Amorphis next friday. Too bad I can't go... :-\

NP  Tipton, Entwistle & Powell:  Edge Of The World

It's strange:  I find Glenn Tipton real great, he's my fave musician, he's the man behind Nostradamus + a lotta other fabulous music, he's covered more musical ground than any other musician I can think of + lotta philosophy too - and he's born just 10 km from where I was born, but that's beside the point  ;) - but even with all this, I'm alone in my reverence for him; noone else in my family, among my friends and acquaintances or Roomies share my passion for his music.

I'm not sad about it, it's just strange. I share soooo much music with you Roomies and also some other guys around the world, but for some strange reason, none of you seem to have awakened to this very special musician  :-\

Anyways, here's one of my faves from his Edge album, Never Say Die:

Entwistle and Powell are of course John Entwistle and Cozy Powell, legends themselves  *horns*
