That sure surprised me, Cap  :o

Do you like Ozzy's singing ?

NP  Amorphis:  Skyforger  (third successive run)

Whew, this is one of my overall faves, so cool, so much wonderful melody and harmony, and fine details  *horns*

Hope it becomes a Room staple  ;)

Well, kinda, yes. His voice is quite special, just like Fish's, and somehow it seems to please my ear... can't explain.

Teunis

Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Knight Area - Under A New Sign
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'
-------------------------------------------------------
Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

Manatee

Played:

Catherine Wheel - Chrome

Unsure whether to call them prog metal (unsure about the prog and metal both), but I like them a lot, at least their early stuff.

Marillion - Clutching at Straws

I'm liking this one, although I think it's gonna take several plays for the lyrics to gel for me.

NP: Amorphis - most or perhaps all of Skyforger (on YouTube)

I have to agree with the rest of you who like this so much.  It's impressive.   *horns*
"What is that sound?  It's confusing, and boy is it loud!"

Bupie

Marillion - Afraid Of Sunlight

The Butterfly Man

NP: Dream Theater - Awake

*horns* *horns* *horns*

I think this is gonna be DT-week! 8)

Also  8) :

JP  Arcturus:  Sideshow Symphonies

Another of my absolute faves  *horns*

But while I think that Skyforger could be for all Roomies, Sideshow Symphonies is more for the metal geeks  ;)

NP  A7:  Diamonds In The Rough

Great album too  *horns*

Last studio album with Jimmy The Rev   :(

With all respect for his tragic death, when I listen to him play on this album, I can hear that he's an excellent drummer, but it's not like WOW, like when I hear Mike P and Hellhammer (on Sideshow Symphonies).

Just saw that Nightmare has peaked at 1 in the US. In Denmark it's Coldplay that peak  :-\

Fortunately in the quote one can choose what one likes and skip the caveats  ;D

OK, Arcturus: WOW, whew, whew-ee, jubii, halleluja .....

One thing for sure: Funky, you'l go for Sideshow Symphonies.

I actually only know this album by Arcturus - havent been able to dig up the others. But from reading reviews and stuff, it seems that this is the one to get.

Earlier I posted a link to a live version of their Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer, track 2 on SS. I wrote that it's the best music video I'v ever seen, and I still think so today.

Here's the link again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP7TzWbLWag

Funky, when you see this, I'm sure you'l be in with Arcturus.

The studio version is good too, but the live version is awesome, and you get to see the whole craziness of their show.

This is a real stuck-on song. It's happened several times that I simply sat and had to play the damn thing over and over again.

Vortex is amazing with his singing and antics, Hellhammer is simply unbelievable on the drums, the two guitarists do some startling stuff, and then towards the end Steinar on his keyboards takes over and simply blows the roof to smithereens.

Nobody else I know has really gotten this (as with several other terrific things), but I'm sure you will, Funky.

Now, go at it .....

Oh, I forgot to say: The whole damn album is freakin awesome  *horns*

I'm at the library, so

If they are as good as Amorphis i am in for 1 hell of a treat

Manatee

Played:

Abigail's Ghost - Selling Insincerity

AC/DC - The Razor's Edge   (regressive metal  ;D )

NP: Bob Mould - Black Sheets of Rain

Hey, you obviously don't remember that I bought the album in a heartbeat a few months ago, purely based on Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer! ;)

You're right though when you reply with saying that I haven't mentioned them much after that, but it's just..... there's so much good music available today, it's really hard to keep up with everything.

But thanks for reminding me, I have to listen to Arcturus some more.

NP: Dream Theater - Through Her Eyes (single) - When Images And Words Unite

Too bad James doesn't sing so well on this live track, otherwise it's a damn fine 16-minute medley consisting of bits of Pull Me Under, Under A Glass Moon, A Fortune In Lies, Only A Matter Of Time and Take The Time. 8)

Earlier this evening I have been playing Avenged Sevenfold's Nightmare, and the track Buried Alive is fastly becoming a stuck-on song, as Nicky would call it. ;) There's such a great riff in the middle of this song that will get you headbanging right away, believe me... *horns*

I remembered you having noticed Arcturus, but then there was no more from your side, Tom. And nobody else except me has mentioned'm since then.

This extraordinary group merits a lot more attention, and I'm hopin that we'l give it some in the Room  ;)

Now that Teunis has started listening to Redemption, it's actually not such a big step to Sideshow Symphonies (all those crazy names that Arcturus devise)  :)

Good call  8)

Right, Tom  8)

And I too can spend days with these guys alone.

And getting closer to answering an earlier question: That's why I don't spend time with groups like U2, Coldplay and Muse. Not because they'r not good, but simply cuz there's so much more exciting prog around these days (my pantheon groups) - well, "around" is maybe a bit much said, as one has to actively look for it, in Denmark iac. But that's why it's great to have meeting and sharing fora like the Room  :)

Yeah, I'm really lookin forward to listenin to this album. That'l be my next major purchase. I'v seen it in the stores.

That's four months ago, Tom !

But OK, it's not too late to get goin with Arcturus  ;)

There's talk about them re-forming, and if we give that thought some support from the Room .....  :)

NP  Anthrax:  Sound Of White Noise

I really like Anthrax from White Noise on. Like Metallica and TestAmenT, they started out in the 80's with proto-thrash, which doesnt do much for me. But OK: youthful energy.  :)

In the course of time, all three groups gained substance and melody.

Metallica got their act together bigtime with their great Black Album. Anthrax did with White Music. TestAmenT - hm, I don't really know yet, but their most recent studio album The Formation of Damnation is a mighty fine album  8)
