NP After Forever - Invisible Circles

Last listen since I just sold it back. It sounded promising at first but never really gripped me  :-\

Bups, I quite enjoy their self-titled album. I'm not planning to get any further AF-albums, but this one is refreshing occasionally, particularly since I have only few albums with a woman as lead vocalist  8)

Echoes Of Eternity's The Forgotten Goddess with Canadian-born bilingual Francine Boucher as lead vocalist is very good too - gotta play it myself soon again .....  ;)

Played:

James LaBrie:  Elements Of Persuasion

This one I didnt enjoy, even on third run, altho I'm willing to give Jamie a lotta attention, as he's the singer in one'o my fave groups (news, guys?)  ;D

Even tho he sings well, and there's some fine musicianship by the other guys, the music never really takes off imo  :-\

I think it was Bups who said something like "industrial" about Jamie's soloalbums. This is a quite good characterisation of EOP.

Anyone else have an opinion about this album ?

And what's his Prime Cuts like ?

I do like the two MullMuzzler albums  8)

Nevermore:  The Obsidian Conspiracy

This is nectar for my ears  *horns*

Pyramaze:  Legend of the Bone Carver

Great album too  *horns*

If you like Iced Earth, yal like this - Bups, Tom, Mad, Iggy, Funkster  ;)

In fact even the lyrical content is like Jon Schaffer's: The struggle between Good and Evil  8)

Has Ockham's razor been in play here ? - you whippersnapper, Funkster (pre-empt ya)  ;D

The last month or so it has been metal - Exodus , Athiest , Morbid Angel , Deah Angel etc etc and it has worn me out  *horns*

Now listening to some classic ock - UFO , Van Halen and the excellent and sadly missed Thunder

Funster, you've been listening to a lot of metal lately.
Have you also listened to the new Exodus or Heathen?

Exodus has release the album Exhibit B: The Human Condition and Heathen's new album is called The Evolution of Chaos.

Both stunning metal albums.

And Megadeth's latest, Endgame is also a gem.

NP> Vanden Plas ~ The Seraphic Clockwork

Pay attention, folks 'cos this album is a must have!!!

I don't remember what I wrote about it but at first listen I had the firm sensation that I would never like it, even after numerous listens. So I gave up after something like three complete listens  :P

Believe ya, Mad  *horns*

Havent listened to Vanden Plas for a while now, but three years ago they sure got spun a lot here  8)

Gotta get back to'm, and gotta get their new album (on my SL now) !

Played:

Manic Street Preachers:  The Holy Bible

The Manics were also a passion with me, in this case about four years ago. I bought several of their albums. Now I rarely listen to'm.

The Holy Bible was their last album with Richey James. Then he simply vanished  ???

The only real good song on it imo is She Is Suffering, but that's a wonderful song  *horns*

Tipton, Entwistle & Powell:  Edge Of The World

Glenn's works really fill a big place in my world, no longer just at the edge, but right at the heart  *horns*

Until I struck on Nostradamus, with everything that then avalanched, I often wondered what my connection to Birmingham was. I mean, I was born there, and lived there for some five years, so there had to be something, right ?

However, Birmingham seemed a somewhat dismal city to me, factories, poverty, dirt and grime etc.

But then I came onto Glenn & Co. Man, this music, and the lyrics, that really struck home. And these guys have a vibe that I can identify with  8)

E.g. Glenn often said at the time of their reunion with Rob: "Groups often re-form, but for the wrong reasons [how about: money - nb]. We did it for the music, and for our fans."

Man, you really hear that - really !

The stuff they did with Ripper - Jugulator, Demolition, and some live stuff - was magnificent, and it cut straight to the bone. Ripper was fantastic with Priest !

And now, Priest with Rob back. I don't yet know what happened, but they really got it together - in a great way  *horns*

NP: Vanden Plas - The Seraphic Clockwork

The overall sound isn't too different from Christ 0, but change isn't always a good thing. At least, I like what I'm hearing!

I always liked Anneke Van Giersbergen's voice, but with a few exceptions, The Gathering never really worked for me, so it's a treat to hear her on some songs I like better.   :)

JP: IQ - Ever
NP: IQ - Frequency

I think I'm finally beginning to like Frequency.  At first I thought it was rather disappointing.

Thrilling  *horns*

Complex jazz metal, with lovely Julie Kiss' sopran soaring above the scramble, and Tom MacLean doing some awesome guitar runs, very melodic too - sorta like Yes meets Aghora  ;)

Wikipedia - To-Mera: "To-Mera are a progressive metal band from South Oxfordshire in the UK. The band plays a technical style of metal characterized by long songs, multiple time changes and jazz interludes."

Strangely I already heard them at Headway in Amsterdam in 2007, but I wasnt yet prepared for this sorta very special music, and they played extremely loud (in fact all bands did, are marsh monsters deaf or somethin ?  ;D ), so I didnt enjoy the concert, in fact I was down in the bar most of the time  :(

Hope I'l get another chance. Sure would like to hear them live again, this time well prepared  :)

If you like A Natural Disaster I think you should buy the new album next, and then work your way back with A Fine Day To Exit and Judgement.
...and Alternative 4! ;)

We're Here Because We're Here is on its way to me and I can't wait to hear it!

NP Lots of Rush at the moment, currently the live album Different Stages. Last week I saw the new documentary Beyond The Lighted Stage which they showed in the Pathé cinema here (!), how cool is that. Great stuff. Now bring on that new studio album Clockwork Angels and bring the Time Machine Tour over the pond! Would be cool to hear an integral live version of Moving Pictures. *horns*

The Tea Party:  Interzone Mantras

Remind me of Three and Dredg - Tom  ;)

I just went to their MySpace and listened to the tracks there. To be honest I didn't like it so much. Also, I can't really spot the Dredg-reference. I do hear some Three in particularly the guitarplaying. It's not bad, it sounds nice and all but purely based on what I heard I don't see myself buying an album of theirs. Thanks for tippin' me anyway! ;)

QuoteAnd Tom, I still think you should get Ten's Twilight Chronicles. I'm sure you'l enjoy it, it really fits well to your LP. Remember that Cap called it "ingenious". And it's still one of my most played albums  ;)

Hey, I'm already so proud of myself that I finally got Jeff Loomis' and Priest's albums that I can't handle anything else right now. :P Nah seriously, to be honest I had forgotten about Ten (there's just too much music around!), so thanks for reminding me again! ;D

I have only heard Interzone Mantras, and this album is great. Lotta wonderful melody, variation, surprising turns, and interesting lyrics  *horns*

It was actually the singing that reminded my of Three: Jeff Martin has an extensive range of vocal styles, and he occasionally does a Joey Eppard thingy  ;)

They also do some Dredg-like stuff now and then  8)

NP: James LaBrie - Elements Of Persuation

I remember this album getting some negative attention recently here in the room. I just want to say that this album keeps blowing me away with every listen. It's got about everything I love in music:

- Crunchy riffs
- Highly melodic choruses
- Innovative guitarsolo's
- James LaBrie's voice

The only 'bad' thing in my book is the album's muddy production but I can live with that.
