I can't promise that, Tom.  ;)
I still like the song.  :-[ ;D

The Mars Volta:  Francis The Mute

Long time since I played MS. Quite special stuff. Man, what crazy minds Omar and Cedric have. I really enjoy it  *horns*

Some of the jazzing is a bit too longdrawn to my taste tho, just like with King Crimson. Fortunately it's usually at the end of the tracks, so I can ff to the next track  :)

PT:  Lightbulb Sun

Doing the old PT-stuff these days. Not anything near the genius of late PT (with Gavin, Richard, and Colin), but everything in which SW has had a hand is special  ;)

MullMuzzler:  Keep It To Yourself

A side project of JLB, one of the more interesting side projects. Quite a mix, some great songs, and some experiments that don't sound successful to me.

I'v become fond of Jamie's singing. While it's obvious that he's sometimes uncomfortable with the DT-stuff, in MM he decides for himself, and you experience some new exciting sides of his talent. Definitely a must for DT-fans  ;)

Nah, I don't think he would appreciate that. And I would like to keep my job... ;)

NP: Amorphis - Skyforger

I discovered this band recently and I love 'em! *horns*
From Wiki: "Amorphis is a Finnish metal band started by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen in 1990. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but on later albums they evolved into playing other types of genres, which include metal, progressive metal, and folk metal. They frequently use the Kalevala, the Epic Poem of Finland, as a source for their lyrics."

Listen to some songs on www.myspace.com/amorphis if you're interested.

Tom, you'r too nice  :-X

Played:

Rob Zombie:  Past, Present & Future

Quite good, rocks, but rather regular metal, not progmetal  8)

Type O Negative:  Dead Again

This one surprised me this time. I bought it two years ago, cause I'd been seeing that picture of Rasputin again and again in stores and other places, and it got to me. I'd also heard some interesting things about TON.

But the first spin didnt do much. Sounded like rather regular goth to me. And I had some other bands to deal with at the time  ;)

Yesterday I picked it up again, and after a few songs, it really went under my skin. These guys are very special, difficult to describe, the closest I can get is Paradise Lost meets QOTSA, with a lotta bizarre humor (like QOTSA)  *horns*

The liner notes are all written with Cyrillic letters, the text English and Russian (takes some time to get into), background singing is rendered by The Bensonhurst Lesbian Choir, and other crazy stuff  ::)

Trivium:  Shogun

Fabulous album, one of my faves, gets a run when I need somethin real uplifting. Bit like Scar Symmetry  *horns*

Cairo-Cairo

Cairo-Conflicts and Dreams

Good choice, i'd say.
Both are great progalbums to say the least.
The latter is a bit more balanced but the first album has Ruins On Avalons Gate on it.
I also have Time of Legends and that one is a tad disappointment i'm afraid.

Yeah, they are both good. I didn't know they even had another CD. Based on what you said, I probably won't look for it. I am looking for some more stuff in the Arena, IQ type of band, with many keys, offbeats etc. I read through our site hear and there are so many bands I have no clue who they are. Being on a limited budget, I want to keep in the prog vein. Been following prog since 1971 when Yes introduced it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well their Cairo last effort can be described as an attempt to go the Emmerson-Lake-and Palmer-way but then with guitars (which btw actually would've existed if Hendrix didn't die at such a young age) and although it has nothing to do with the sound Arena and IQ and the likes produce it does has many keys and offbeats like you describe. It's just a bit different then the neo-prog-bands that exists in the world.

Have you've ever heard of Galleon?
They are Swedish and have released a couple of outstanding albums, like Mind Over Matter, From Land To Ocean or, their latest effort, Engines Of Creation.

It's not really in the vein of Arena and such but pleasant nonetheless.

Might be worth checking out.

Click for info about Galleon. ;)

Ayreon - [Universal Migrator Part II; Flight Of The Migrator (2000)]  #07 - Out Of The White Hole

My moment of the week: at 4'13, a transpose, new part of the story, amazing! Moments like these made me an absolute Arjen fan. raawwwwwwr!

Extended to this week. Very long moment, that is... Makes me smile!

We're diving through the nebulae and arrive on planet Y
A hundred thousand hollow eyes are gazing at the sky

There seems to be no motion, no pleasure and no pain
No symptoms of emotion, no loss and no gain

Solar screens and cold machines are covering up the ground
Crystal covered fields of green and oceans underground

Countless different entities but they all look the same
But then one of the entities is crying out its name:

Forever...
Remember Forever...
