NP  PoS:  Enter Rain

I wanted to check up somethin bout PoS, and "accidentally" I hit the link to this song on Youtube, and now I'm stuck again - one of the stickiest s-o songs ........................  *horns*

Saw that PoS put out the EP Linoleum in 2009. Anyone know about that one ?

Actually the reason I was researching PoS is that they'r gonno compete this eve in the first round of the Swedish Grand Pricks (song contest)  :o

Yeah, it's true guys - sensation !!!  First time a leading progmetal group does this.

I read a newspaper article about it. They were frustrated by the fact that they'r so unknown in their home country. They'r most popular in France, Italy and Germany. Imagine that the French can have such good taste  ;D

Well, I'm gonno watch this on TV this eve. See how they present themselves, and the reactions. Be open to the other stuff too  8)

Unfortunately the Swedish GP pundits foresee that Pos will be voted out in the first round  :(

But otoh maybe this will get'm some new Swedish fans.

They have material for at least two albums, but production is stalled by the fact that their record company went broke  :(

Thanks !  Makes me even more eager to get the full Oblivion Days  8)

Has a lot of the same moods as Secrets Of Astrology, which is my fave LL & EN album - and yours too, seemingly, Teunis ?

And Mark McCrite sings grippingly too, a bit like Jeff Lynne in the mellow passages.

How did you get to know about LL, EN & RS ?

Surprising that they havent broken thru in the West. They seem to have most of their fans in Japan & Russia.

Also, they should be an obvious choice for Roomies  ;)   - but Roomies you have to bang on their heads hundred times before they get the message  :P

May I surprise you again? Wrong guess Nicky  ;).

Actually, Teunis, I wasnt nearly as surprised about this as about you listening to Snowfall. (Does yer wife now fear that you have chosen the left-hand path ?  ;D ) LL & RS fit quite well into your LP, and I had noticed that you had NP'd RS a few times  :)

Many people consider me a metalhead, but I'm actually just as enthusiastic about neoprog/symphonic stuff if it has a good melody, beat/drive, singing, and lyrics  8)

I managed to see their performance, and what a fragile little song Road Salt is! Really beautiful! :) I liked the fact that the rest of the band were on stage, while the song only consists of Daniel Gildenlöw's vocals and Fredrik Hermansson's keys. It added to the theatrical aspect of it. Kinda like them being actors in the background. Travelers that have had different experiences throughout their journeys, frozen in time, as Daniel sings about his similarly related experience.

What did you think of it Nicky?

What did you think of it Nicky?

I was actually disappointed. Daniel G, as the master of melody, rhythm and lyrics that he is, could'v put together a song for the occasion that started out mellow, and then took off with melody, beat and punch.

Well, that's what I expected and hoped for  :-\

But I can see your point too, Tom  ;)

And Daniel seems to have gotten across to the audience so far as to have gotten PoS elected as one of the four groups that get another chance at the GP  8)

Basically I care f*a* about that glamor show, but of course when it's friends that get'mselves involved .....  ;)

And Ms and I actually ended up watching the whole caboodle. Not much pleasure for a proggie, but I liked best the first guy, cause he acted very naturally, and the song had melody and beat - my first choice.

Well, enuff of that. It was fun to see Daniel & Co. in that context, but I aint gonna pursue it further.

I'm so fortunate that Ms 007 had been listening to some metal before she met me. Her fave group for many years was Paradise Lost, further Dream Theater (they are a progmetal group, Bupsie), Iron Maiden, Zep, and some others. So she wasnt as frightened by my metal stuff as many other ladies. But e.g. Nevermore and Tool are too "noisy" for her taste  :-\

Just goes to show that you have good taste  :)  - and me too, of course  :D

In fact, due to you, I'v even been listening to some Asia and Asia featuring John Payne lately. Yessiree !!!  Hope nobody dropped their hot coffee  :o

My main reason for having an aversion toward Asia was that Steve Howe was in the mix. I thought: Man, this great musician, what in raving h*l is he doing in a pop-rock group like that. But now I'v come over my outrage, and I realise that as far as pop-rock groups with ahem lyrics go, Asia and Asia-JP are pretty good  8)

I mean, I don't expect to buy any more of their albums. (I have their first two.) But an occasional spin of these, and other songs on MySpace and YouTube, is quite enjoyable  :)

NP  Beatles:  White Album
Mahavishnu Orchestra:   The Inner Mounting Flame
     Avenged Sevenfold:  Self-titled

All  *horns*

Probably only few of ya know Mahavishnu. Well, these guys were big in the early 70's. Their first album was Flame (1971), and here was John McLaughlin on guitar (who you'v probably heard of), Jerry Goodman on violin, Billy Cobham on drums, Rick Laird on Bass, and Jan Hammer on keyboards, all legends re their resp. instruments. The music is of course rather complex, and it takes some runs before ya begin to perceive the genius in it  *horns*

Genesis  The Lamb. What a cd. People over in the US are really bashing the Genesis DVD When in Rome. I don't get it. No emotion, BS. I thought it was really done well. The sound is good. I liked the documentary also, and how it shows the difficulty of putting a show of that magnitude together. I have seen Genesis many times over the years, and they have always been the frontrunners of lighting shows, video etc. Am I missing something?
I agree, Aswas, marvellous DVD and show. I think Genesis managed a neat setlist there, balancing the old and the not so old repertoire that has different audiences, better than on The Way We Walk (which got me hooked anyway, was really getting into Genesis then).

The documentary really is a nice extra, especially the bits from the rehearsals in the studio, in which Phil Collins at one point walks out frustrated that a rhythm of an oldie is evading him.

QuoteIn fact, due to you, I'v even been listening to some Asia and Asia featuring John Payne lately. Yessiree !!!  Hope nobody dropped their hot coffee

Luckily I never have drinks when I'm behind the PC! Real suprise Nicky, you acknowledging there are some merits in Asia. Steve Howe is the odd one out in the equation, I agree, it's so different from Yes you'd think he'd not be into this kind of style.

Teunis, I think Phoenix is decent enough, not groundbreaking but enjoyable, especially the two longer tracks. The real plus is seeing this line up on stage though, otherwise I'd preferred that Architect Of Time with John Payne had been released. Don't know all the details, but to me it seems Geoff Downes abandoned that almost finished album a bit too easily for the better cashing in prospect of the original line up reunion. Well, let's see what Omega brings.
