NP  Yes:  Tales from Topographic Oceans  (on repeat)

This album certainly wins with progressive listens  ;)

For the first time, I actually enjoyed listening to The Remembering - a wonderful piece - I didnt just have to be "intellectual" about it  8)

The Topographic lyrics are definitely among the finest in progworld - a tremendous achievement by Jon  *horns*

True, what's Yes without Jon ? - "tribute band" is quite in place  :-\

Of course one should support young talented artists; but there is a special aura about Yes, and Jon is an essential part of it  :)

Was also happy to see (on Wiki (Yes discography)) that Yes eventually became platinum - in fact 90125 even got 3*platinum on RIAA  *horns*

Good to know that there are millions of people on this planet who cherish great music (after all)  8)

Wiki (Tales from Topographic Oceans ):  "The album's concept, a two-disc, four-piece work of symphonic length and scope (based on the Shastric scriptures, as found in a footnote within Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi), was their most ambitious to date. The four songs of the album symbolise (in track order) the concepts of Truth, Knowledge, Culture, and Freedom, the subjects of that section of text. According to drummer Bill Bruford in his autobiography (p. 72), former King Crimson percussionist Jamie Muir introduced vocalist Jon Anderson to Paramahansa Yogananda's work during his wedding on March 1973, and therefore had an indirect impact on the album's concept."

Yes indeed Jon is integral but they shouldn't have to wait for him to tour. I guess his asthma is something that is likely to get worse with age.

I'm still working on it, OM II hasn't quite gelled for me yet. It's certainly a grower and an intriguing album, that should be judged on its own merits instead of comparing it to OM I.

OM I is a great album, and its success gave Queensrÿche a lot of artistic freedom.

OM II is a masterpiece in class with Topographic Oceans and The Wall - musically and lyrically  *horns* *horns* *horns*

It is weird, if not surprising (after all, we're almost 7 billion people, etc...) to see someone so taken by the O:M II album. Granted, it isn't without capability of bringing about passion, as it makes me mournful every time I think about it (after a few listens).

I'm sure they really tried, and put a lot of effort into it, so it's good they hit someone.

Manatee

Is it just me, or have things gotten really weird here lately?

Earlier: The Flower Kings - Space Revolver (CD without a crack in it version)

Still some noodling but rather good anyway.  Nice call, Iggy.   *horns*

NP: Devin Townsend - Physicist

Headbanging music yet smart.  This now sounds normal to me.  Granted it's his most straightforward album, but still... I'm thinking Phideaux might be what Devin would sound like if he did neo-prog.  Then again, I think doing neo-prog would make Devin's head explode.   ;D

Who knows. They didn't grab me last time I played it, don't know anymore which album(s) though. But James LaBrie's voice is not my favorite, though he did a great job on an Ayreon album. Weird ...

Have been playing my latest purchase for three times now: Steve Thorne - Into The Ether. It's even better than his Emotional Creatures albums I'd say 8). But I guess too 'softy' for your taste Nicky  ;).

Well, as I told another Roomie: One adapts ... and then one even comes around to enjoying his singing ... altho I'l admit ...  :-X

But this is one of the bands one should not miss (if one is into progmetal)  :)

NP  Jeff Loomis:  Zero Order Phase

If you wanna know what in my mind is the most advanced prog music (aint talkin bout lyrics here), then this is it. This guy masters both melody and technique exceptionally, and he balances elegantly on the razor's edge between'm, creating an exhilarating synthesis  :-X

Guys  ;)

You'r thinkin about the intruders, Greenie ?  We get them once in a while - guess all open forums do. Some people are just so bored with their lives that they can't think of anything useful to do, and instead they bug other people. That's just the way the world works. Better that than running an airplane into a building  :(

I wrote to Cap about our three current intruders and asked him to get rid of'm. Hope it keeps us clear for a while  :-\

Well them too, but that's not really what I meant.   The conversations have gotten kind of weird and onto things I don't know much about.  Also, the dynamic's just not the same with some of our brethren missing.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not planning to leave, and I'm glad the rest of you are still here.  Everyone just adds their own element to the place, and I'm missing the missing elements.  Also, I'm just not in a good mood.   :(

Maybe you'r missing a missy - that would make you missdirected rather than misdirected  :D

NP  Pyramaze:  Immortal

Danish-American progmetal band, with the great Matt Barlow on vocals.

Initially they sounded to me like a lesser Iced Earth clone, but after three spins, I can now hear that they'v really developed their own special stuff. I'm quite enjoying this album. Lyrics are evocative too  *horns*

OK, Immortal does sound somewhat Iced Earthy, which is not so surprising with Matt in the mix. And I aint complaining, as IE are one'o my pantheon groups.

But they also leave the trademark IE pulse and explore other tracks succesfully.

They'v released three studio albums, which I'm planning to get  :)

I am a bit, but that's another issue entirely.  We're all missdirected -- surely we all know that women rule the world by now, don't we?

On a bit of a metal trip for the first time in a few months so

Candlemass - death magic doom (not as good as king of the grey islands)
Iced earth - something wicked this way comes
Candlemass - Nightfall

Might try and get hold of some Nevermore due to the high regard they are held in here
