I don't really have anything against Saabs except when they're invading my car's personal space.

NP  Symphony X:  V: The New Mythology Suite  (on repeat)

You'r right, Mad: This is real great music !  A tour de force (tryin to indulge Bupsie) of innovative ideas and music  *horns* *horns* *horns*

Maybe I should start a stuck-on list for albums too. This one would clearly go there.

One of the great things about prog is that concept and lyrics mean just as much to the artists as music, musicianship, and production. This is obviously the case with SyX. These guys are top league with everything  *horns*

With such good judgement, Mad, maybe I should give Amaseffer another run soon  ;)  (tryin to get both Paxi and Tom jealous this time)  ;D

Just played:

Roger Waters:  Ca Ira

This is a very special work. It's an epic about the French Revolution. An opera with classical instruments - strings and stuff - and classical opera singing. At first, it bewildered me. After a while, it got under my skin with its overwhelming beauty  :)

So that was my French for today, guys  ;D

Steve Vai's S&R and Flex-Able are my least enjoyed albums by him, but there are 2-3 songs on S&R that are great.

My faves are Fire Garden and Real Illusions. FG is a good starter with Vai  ;)

NP  SyX:  V: The New Mythology Suite  (still on repeat)

Must be fifth or sixth run  *horns*

This one alternates with Black Clouds and Zero Order Phase as albums that get most spins these days  8)

All three are of course highly recommended  ;)

When checking up Amazon reviews on Mercy Falls, I found a link to Cloudscape's Global Drama. Looks interesting. Any'o ya guys know about Cloudscape ?

Here's what D-Man "such a sweet and innocent boy.." (located at Your Bathroom)  ;D  writes about Global Drama:

"Cloudscape is yet another musical powerhouse hailing from Sweden. I just happened to come upon this release a couple of weeks back and was very impressed by how much it stood out. It has a unique atmosphere to it that really sets it apart from a lot of the bands I have been listening to in recent days. It is not a brutal composition at all, although it does have metallic elements entwined in its fabric. It has a kind of ethereal texture to it; a hybrid of classic heavy metal with modern progressive rock and progressive metal. I find their vocalist Mike Andersson to be one of the best vocalists in present day metal music. He sings entirely clean through the songs. The nature of his vocals is rather soothing, yet I was left with an eerie feeling.

On the musical front, their style has definitive metal inspiration. Some of it is exceptionally fast paced and rather chaotic. At the same time, you can feel an almost Journey like influence woven within their sound. This occurred to me while listening to The Silence Within. I found the guitar work to be dreamy in many areas, particularly during some of the guitar solos. All in all, I believe Global Drama to be a very fresh and magnificent body of work. And the band couldn't have a more appropriate title for themselves, because their music does in many ways resemble a diverse Cloudscape - airy, graceful, mysterious, refreshing, and in its darker moments thunderous."

Indeed.  I believe the vocals on that album are handled by Ziltoid himself.

Turns out I listened to Discipline before, not Red as stated.  Now I'm really listening to Red.  Thus far (3 times through Discipline, a few more through Red), I'm liking Red more.  I think I expected more from the Belew-included Crimson.  I'm finding some of the songs rather formless.  Could be they're just really complex, and more listens are required to discern the patterns deep within.  Or could be they're formless.   ;)

That's just because his cameo appearance on cowbell is uncredited.   ;D
