The thing is, with ITPOE, is that they never, i repeat never, which means NEVER should have cut the track into pieces.  >:(

Well, my opinion about that song is pretty obvious.  ;D
I do have an Uncut version, though.
Man, it rocks soo loud!!!!!  *horns* *horns* *horns*

You'll be allright then with the new one, no cut up epics ;)

Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisited

I've always found this one most pleasant indeed *horns*

NP: Mastodon - Crack the Skye

This one was a bit of a leap of faith on my part since I've only heard the few sample songs they have available online.  To be honest, the really cool artwork may have helped sell it to me a bit.  Let's see how it goes.

I could tell from the first chord that I wasn't going to be disappointed.  This is clearly one that's going to need several plays to get a handle on everything that's going on, but I like.   *horns*   The vocalist sounds somewhat Ozzie-like, doesn't he?

Highly likely to be in my next batch of purchases.  Having started with 'Blood Mountain' purely because it was the cheapest way to try 'em out, I'm now hooked.  Definitely growers 8)

NP: Marillion - Afraid of Sunlight

At this point, I like this one very much.  I'm pondering my next purchase, but care is necessary since I have not reached fanatic status for h-Marillion yet.  Plus I have heard some songs of theirs on Pandora that I frankly thought were kinda lousy.  From what I've heard and read, Marbles might be a good choice, yes?  (assuming that "get them all, dumbass" isn't a valid response)

OoOooOooh yes! YES!!
Probably one of my favourite albums by anyone, EVER!!
Not much (real) rock going on there, but man, it's pure beauty.

No problem there.  I'll echo the oft-quoted "the more you like music, the more music you like" -- enjoying many different styles of music helps keep it fresh and interesting.  Afraid of Sunlight is a pretty quiet album in most parts too, and I really like it.  I'd be happy with another one in a similar direction.  Besides, since I just got a Mastodon album and am actively annoyed that I can't get the new Devin Townsend yet, I don't think I can be accused of ignoring the heavy rocky stuff.   *horns*

The Beatles - White album

Couldn't resist it after reading about The Beatles in Nicky's profile which it has to be said is a weird place for a Beatles discussion

Not all that weird really -- Nicky seems to be the chief Beatles fanatic in the Room.

NP: Marillion - Crash Course

I quite like the first two songs, both of which are from the newest album(s), I think.  Of the others, one is on the album I already have (see above), and the rest haven't really grabbed me yet.

He's not the only one. What amazes me is that most people will know all or most of the songs on the 62 - 66 and 67 - 70 (Red and Blue) albums, a staggering 54 songs but there is so much more than just these songs.

True, but in the course of the aforementioned 40+ years, I think I've heard even those other ones many many times.  It didn't help that at one point in time (and probably even now on the 'classic rock' stations), every radio station apparently had to have a "Breakfast with the Beatles" feature.  You're right about the Red and Blue albums though.  My brother played those absolutely to death when we were kids.

Older I presume. Did he influence your musical tastes? My brother is 16 months older than me an it was probably late seventies before our tastes converged.

Younger actually.  I don't know that either of us influenced the other all that much at that point, although our tastes weren't that different.  I've picked up more good musical leads from him since we became "grown-ups".  I hope the reverse is true as well, although sometimes I despair -- I played Subterranea for him, and he said it sounded like Triumph.   ???

My brother is in Australia so every time he comes over I send him back with CD's from bands I have discovered between trips. I think his wife despairs.

I take it there's no chance that anyone here will tell me that the 1 CD retail version of Marbles is sufficient?  A pity the double is only on their website.  The 1-disc version is available from Amazon at a very reason price that would be just about the perfect amount to get me free shipping on that and Ki, which I shall have to pre-order shortly.

NP: Martin Orford - The Old Road

Really nice album.  I think I just detected a Kansas kind of sound in the first song and maybe even some Frost*.  Some is of course, IQ-like, although I'd miss Peter Nicholls if this was an IQ album.  While his voice isn't beautiful, it is unique and is part of what makes IQ IQ for me.  Addendum:  I just read a rather depressing review of this.  It's very favorable about the music, but it indicates that it may be the last music Orford records because he's fed up with losses from musical piracy.   :'(   It would be a real loss to prog if that happened.  Perhaps he could do something similar to what Marillion did when they funded the recording of an album by getting their fans to pre-order it.  I'd be willing to do that for a musician of this quality.

I think you'll have to go to racket records. It seems that there are some real extra tracks not fillers.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! :o :o :o :o :o :o

The single CD is missing quite a number of tracks, including the awesome 'Ocean Cloud' - it's like buying Riverside's 'Rapid Eye Movement' and finding the title track is missing :o  I think I need to go and lie down ;)

What he said.

The one disc version doesn't include:
- Genie
- The Only Unforgivable Thing
- Ocean Cloud
- The Damage

And I tell you, these songs are ESSENTIAL! Except The Damage, which is a very weird song when you hear it first. Not everybody likes it. I do, though. I love weirdness. ;D
Genie is probably one of the best songs on the album. Same goes for Ocean Cloud, which IS the best song on the album (along with The Invisible Man).

Oooooh man, I LOVE that album! :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hum  :-[ I also ordered the 1 cd version because I too thought that the Racket Records 2 cds version had a racket price ... and because I am rather cautious with H-Marillion  and it has become one of my favorite Marillion albums, although it took me several complete listens before realizing how good it is (at first, I was wondering if all the band members had accidentaly drunk massive doses of soporific syrup before entering the studio ...).

And as I explained before, I found I&W disappointing because I already had the much heavier and darker Awake and dislike the plastic drums on I&W. :-\

Thanks for reminding me that we had this long discussion about DT in the Room ... two years ago already  :P Put me in the mood for :

NP: Thomas Dolby - Aliens Ate My Buick
One of the finest titles for an album ever, methinks.  Also a corkingly good listen *horns*
