NP: Gazpacho - Night

I think I went a full week without Gazpachoing!   I'm beginning to think I might like Night even a hair better than Tick Tock.  The 17-minute opener, Dream of Stone, is magical.   *horns*   I love the line, "And what becomes of little boys who get lost inside their head?"
"What is that sound?  It's confusing, and boy is it loud!"

NP: The Devin Townsend Project - Ki
(..)
So far I listened to the album twice, but I can already feel a Ki-addiction coming up... :D
This name is popping up a lot here recently and read that Manatee is a Devin Townsend advocate. I must confess I'm still struggling with his Terria album which I've had for quite some time now. Doesn't seem to click with me.. :-\

I haven't got Tick Tock long enough/listened to it enough to really make the verdict yet, but the odds are also tilted towards Night, a bit more intense somehow, can't pinpoint it really.

NP: The Devin Townsend Project - Ki

This is my very first encounter with Devin Townsend's music but what a pleasant one! After listening to (and enjoying) a few soundclips for the last couple of days I just picked up the album at my local cd-store. If I had to describe it with only one word it has to be 'intense'.  Regardless of the seemingly laid-back playing there is a continuously dark atmosphere and while these thirteen songs rarely become really heavy, Ki is an extremely intense album, always building up to an outburst but never quite reaching it.

So far I listened to the album twice, but I can already feel a Ki-addiction coming up... :D

Also, this album is the first of four conceptually linked albums under the moniker of "Devin Townsend Project". The second album is planned to be released later this year.

How is it that you can get the album a month before I can when he's in Canada?  >:(   OK, I already know the answer -- Inside Out is based in Germany.  I'm glad to hear it's good anyway.  I was a little worried he was going for an ambient experiment, which isn't really my thing.

Terria is probably my favorite of all of his albums, but I'll grant that he's the sort you'll probably either become a fanatic for or not really like much at all.

I actually got Tick Tock first and loved it enough to get Night soon afterward.   I still think both are excellent, but I think maybe what makes me give Night the slight edge is Dream of Stone, which is one of those songs you can keep finding more things to like about the more you play it.  I generally play the two albums back-to-back anyway.   *horns*

On first play, I wasn't wowed by Bruford's 'One of a Kind'.  It has some good bits, but it has a fair amount that's not all that interesting.  It could use some more oomph.  Maybe I should've gone for the live album 'The Bruford Tapes', which seems to have more energy in the same songs.  Still, I've only played it once, so by prog rules, it deserved further review before a verdict.

The title track to The Old Road is really nifty.   *horns*

Personally I need to be in jazz-rock mood before I can get the most out of such things.  But then I have to be in a metal mood for metal, AOR mood for AOR, etc, etc.  The only thing that seems to work regardless of my mood is the prog end of the spectrum.  I ain't complainin', as Quo once opined :)
