I know I'm supposed to be a green sea mammal, but as I'm about to go to sleep, I'd prefer any women I dream of to be sans flippers.

It's not like high heels, then, where I prefer that they leave 'em on? ;)

WWP: Porcupine Tree - Warszawa -- Even the really weird parts are entertaining.   *horns*

I can't think of any weird parts on that one, what have you in mind?

I may not be French, but I'm still fairly good at recognizing a woman when I see one.  I'm sure Bupie will confirm Pat's gender unless he's having a bit of fun with this.  Besides, her voice is nearly as high as Geddy Lee's.  ;D   Also, she looks something like my cousin Kim, whose husband and children would be very surprised indeed if she turned out to be a man.   :o

There seems to be some confusion regarding this matter. Greenie, maybe you should pull down your pants and take a thorough look in the mirror to ascertain your status. You just might be a Womanatee  ;D

The hypothesis I was debating was not whether Pat Benatar is a woman (which I now consider her to be), but whether she could grip me. But don't worry, it's not anything that concerns me any longer  ::)

Yeah, I was also surprised about Bupie's using "he" for PB in the same post that he (Bups) mentioned two albums by PB that he had been listening to. Has the "s" now also become silent in French ?  Or are all female looking Frenchies drags ?  :D

NP:  Arena - The Visitor

Feeling a bit out of sorts, and that calls for the big prog guns.   *horns*

Betcha !  The Visitor was my first love with Arena, and I was spellbound by it. A few weeks later I bought Contagion, which I now consider even better ... but first-loves are first-loves, there is something special about'm  :-* *horns*

Yeah, I found Napalm Death rather boring, pretty much the same grind song after song. I played The Code Is Red thru, as it sometimes takes time to get into a special mood, but I wasnt left with any desire to pursue ND further  :-\

NP  Rush:  Permanent Waves  *horns*

A lot to be found here.

I think this is a case where it's best to let sleeping aquatic creatures lie.  I never did get the high-heels thing though -- seems like it's just an opportunity for someone to get gored.

I thinking mostly of the narration on 'Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled' and 'Voyage 34' of which there is a lot.  As an aside, I really like Steven Wilson's quiet, humble manner with the audience.

Gonna try out Napalm Death when I get home (from the local library). Any of ya guys into'm ?

Can't say I've heard of them before, but I'm guessing they're not ambient or 'easy-listening'.

When standing they alter the shape of the muscled areas of the legs for optimum effect.  Apparently ;D

Ah, I see.  To me that's no different to what historically I've enjoyed on things like Floyd over the years, but I guess if it's not your thing then 'weird' is as good a label as any.  Perhaps I understand the reasoning behind your poll now! 8)

Yes indeed.  In most cases, I can enjoy odd spoken word or sound effects a time or two, but for me, that gets stale after a few times, and then I'd rather just hear the musical part.  I suppose it's something similar to the fact that I can read a favorite book or see a favorite movie at most maybe once every few years, while I can listen to really good music far more often before it needs a break.   The cash register on PF's 'Money' is something of an exception because they managed to use it as if it were an instrument, so it sounds like part of the music.

Is Frank actually performing with Teenage Fanclub on this, or is it some of each individually?

NP:  Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and the Cooked

Found this in the pile and am giving it a spin, but I don't think it's going to make the frequent play list.   It doesn't seem to have aged well.   :-\

Yes, it's Frank using Teenage Fanclub as a backing band.  Good 4-track CD, which was worth getting at the time given that it wasn't especially expensive *horns*

Yeah, after a few songs, I was wondering what I was thinking when I bought it.  It was one of those cheap CD club purchases, where you get them for very little except shipping charges, and I probably got it on the strength of one or two catchy tunes on the radio.  I'm now Opething them out of my system.  I could still do without the death grunts, but otherwise an impressive band.

NP:  Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omniscient

There are actually a fair number of spoken parts here, but it's funny as hell (at least to me).   Also the music is great as always with the mighty Hevy Devy.  I'm not sure this album would be a good first choice as an introduction to his music though.  On the other hand, it's the perfect first choice as an introduction to his insanity.   ;D

Guess if ya live in Baghdad, they could be quite ambient, altho maybe not easy-listenin  ::)

As you know, I'm not averse to thrash and growl and stuff, but man, there has to be some drama, dynamics and variation  :-\

Jeff Lynne: "This was one of them concept ideas. It was about time travel, so it's supposed to be all futuristic and daft. None of these ideas have been disproved yet, and only another ninety-odd years to go to see if I was right!"

Great album, lots of melody, of course, as always with ELO, but also some interesting ideas and effects  8)

Given my bent for metal, guess I'm allowed some quality AOR occasionally  ;)

NP  Edenbridge:  The Grand Design

As several roomies seem to be hot on this group, I had to give'm a run. Found the cd at Cop Main Library.

Sounds good so far, a bit like Caamora, guess that's partly due to Sabine's singing, which is close to Christina Booth's .....

Guess this is too:

NP  Down:  III: Over The Under

Admittedly more to my taste  *horns*

Got Phil and Rex from Pantera in the mix, and Down has a bit the same sound as Pantera, altho not quite as wild, more grungy.

My best discovery in months  *horns*

It struck me that Phil sings a bit like Eddie Vedder  8)

Imagine Pearl Jam grunged up for real  ;)

Wiki (Down III: Over The Under): "Over the Under has been written with the band's anger about Hurricane Katrina in mind, and Phil Anselmo's hurt over the loss of deceased Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell, and the bad blood between the two up until the guitarist's death."

I've heard a good bit of them on Pandora, although I haven't heard a full album.  I rather like them too.   I generally mark them with the "thumbs up."

For the record, I still enjoy a bit of ELO now and then myself.  Out of the Blue was the first rock album I ever bought.  I'd say they're usually more fun than brilliant, but still enjoyable, and there are some songs that are really very good, e.g., Fire on High.

No comment on Pantera or Down since I haven't heard either one.  It's possible I've heard a Pantera song or two I guess but not since I started enjoying metal in any case.

Off the top of my head, I think I'd nominate Aladdin Sane as my favorite Bowie album, but I've got nothing of his on CD, so I've only heard whatever the radio had to offer from him since my LPs went into the boxes.  :(
