The Chaos Years - Strapping Young Lad

It is not going to be my most played but it is growing on me.

I think I'm almost ready to take the SYL plunge.  Been listening to the Devin Townsend album Physicist, which is said to be his closest to SYL, and I like it a lot.  I have heard some SYL though, and they're definitely another notch or two noisier.

I'm sold on these guys --I'll likely buy I've ordered another.

Genesis - Abacab
4. Keep It Dark

I know a lot of people don't like this album. And of course, it's nothing like Selling England or The Lamb. But I still think there are some brilliant songs on this one!
Me And Sarah Jane for example. And Dodo/Lurker.
The song I'm playing right now is very nice too.

Thanks to these songs I'm happy to sit through songs like No Reply At All, which is still a very good 80's pop song.

They were certainly past their prime, and Genesis with horns is just *wrong*, but there are still some good songs there.  Keep it Dark and Dodo/Lurker are the highlights for me.   Interestingly, IQ managed to use horns without grating on me on Subterranea.  Different band though.

NP: Peter Gabriel - 4th eponymous album/Security (depending upon whether you want to go with Peter or the record company) - The Family and the Fishing Net

I just turned on Pandora with the intention of seeding for a few bands on my need to try out list (such as Ten and Amasawhatis), but this came on first, and I consider it immoral to turn it off.

Huzzah!  Eat your beets!

NP: Talking Heads - Remain in Light - Once in a Lifetime

It seems that Pandora has heard of neither Ten nor Amaseffer.   >:(    Time to go Googling for websites with samples.

Still listening to Genesis (the album) by Genesis (the band).
9. It's Gonna Get Better

Somehow, this song is still very good. :) I like it.
Very nice on a nice evening like this. Great way to end an album.

Next: Genesis - "Invisible Touch"...

Manatee

NP: Amaseffer - Slaves for Life (whole song) and samples of several others (on their website)

Definitely unique.  It will probably take several listens to decide if it's good unique or just unique.   ;)

For me it's definitely way beyond good unique. 8) Those guys certainly know their biscuits ;D

Edit: Check out "Wooden Staff" if you can - unbelievably transsplendid guitarwork *horns*

Now Sort of Playing: Ten - (1.5 minute samples of 4 songs from their MySpace page)

Not really fair to judge them based on a few partial songs, but my first impression is they're like Asia.  Anyone know of some full songs hearable out there?  Maybe YouTube has something.  Unsurprisingly, it's a lot harder to websearch for something called 'Ten' and get what you meant than it is for 'Amaseffer'.

6. Domino

Fantastic song! Don't think I need to explain.

One little note about the previous song though (Anything She Does), at the end Phil breaks one of his drumsticks. If you listen closely you can hear him shout! ;D
Funny.

Can't help with the full song angle, but they most remind me of Rainbow in their later, AOR period.  Very high quality AOR, but it depends if you like that sort of thing.

More of a cookie than a biscuit, if I might venture ;)

Yeah, that occurred to me too.   ;D    As I said, though, I'd really like to hear a more substantial example before I decide what I think of them.   Also, for the record, the first sample ('The Chronicles') did have some good-sounding guitar work.

Edit - Nicky should have some mercy on me anyway since I just ordered Ghost Opera ("The Second Coming" enhanced edition with a live second disc).  Just in case though, I'll put on my asparagus-repelling armor.

Don't forget your beef helmet. ;D

But no kidding: Ten is actually quite a good band! The guitarwork is pretty decent indeed. And the singer has a good voice too. But for me his voice is a bit too 'sweet' or something. But not bad at all.
