NP  Metallica:  Load

Not one of their best, but still, it's the Metallica sound  *horns*

Nicky.

Actually the only song i do like from this album is the last one: The Outlaw Torn.
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

Nicky007

Guys, is ReLoad better than Load, or pretty much the same ?

Hey, I have to apologise.
I just got a PM from Guy Manning himself and I'm sooooooo ashamed... :-[

He said: "Thank you for you kind comments about my voice..so very nice and informed".
That was in regard of my post about him where I made a joke about his voice and his name.
He is right. :( That was VERY distasteful, so I edited my post. And I will rectify it.

I think sometimes we (or to keep it for myself: I) go too far, here on this forum. Guy Manning was right to PM me about it and made me realise that this is not how we should speak about people.

It happens often that someone doesn't like a persons voice. For example people are complaining about James LaBrie's voice of Dream Theater. And there's of course Fish and Steve Hogarth of Marillion. We can have preferences, and there's nothing wrong with that. But when we talk about our preferred singer, or discussing some music, we should always keep in mind that we're talking about persons, persons with feelings. So respect is due.

I'd like you all to think about that.

I am very ashamed of myself. :-[ We all know that we shouldn't base our opinion on a first listen. In Progressive music, liking is always a proces.
And I am absolutely sure that I'll grow to appreciate Guy Manning's voice. In fact, his voice is VERY varied. (I incite you to listen to The Tangent albums, where he shares lead- and backingvocals with Andy Tillison and (on earlier albums) Roine Stolt.) His voice is sometimes warm and passionate, other times cheerful and uplifting. Besides, he's also an extremely gifted songwriter and musician. He is another multi-instrumentalist. And as I've said before, I am totally blown away and pleasantly surprised by Skimming Stones, a song from Guy's 2007 album "Songs From The Bilston House". Very varied music, with beautiful melodies.

From now on I'll try to be more thoughtful when talking about bands, singers, musicians. They're doing the best to keep us pleased. They put out music, and then there are people (like me) who shamelessly drag their name through the dirt, by calling them names and generally hurt them.

Nice post, Paco. I totally agree with you.

NP Jadis - This Changing Face  So I won't say that Gary Chandler's voice is not perfect on this one (but the song is still a favorite of mine) ...

Yeah, you're right, Bupie, giving it a blue background makes it an entirely new experience.

::)

NP  Metallica:  Load

First it sounds pretty ordinary. But when you get properly into it, you hear a lot of special things coming and going  *horns*

One of the things I really dig about Metallica is that they have realised more than anybody else that music, to be genuine, must be totally free of glamor (else it's showbiz).

These guys can bathe in their money, but still they come across as guys you can f* around with in the local pub - or at my course  ;D

You mean I am making some kind of quoting abuse, Nicky ?

OK, this afternoon I dont work, which is cool, but  it's raining and I am far away from Paris so I won't see Arena tonight, which is sad.

But I am still having fun listening to that : http://www.myspace.com/trevbabay

Ok, I won't sell it to you as prog or even a very new style of music. It's just 100% AOR ... but it's so freaking good !

And I won't tell you who's the father of the guy. Teunis, any idea ?  ;)

I'm watching Transatlantic - Live In Europe DVD at the moment.
A small window on my desktop is playing this wonderful concert, while in another window I'm doing some homework.

Works great! I should do this more often since my family here doesn't like it when I play my DVDs in the livingroom. ::)
But the sound in the livingroom is much better and secretly it's much more fun watching this while the rest is forced to watch too. ;D

I watched Smoke and Mirrors sooner in the afternoon. it will not replace tonight's gig  :'( but it's great anyway

NP Dream Theater - Octavarium (the song)

That's a nice song!
I think I'll play that one later today.

Now watching the Tour Documentary of Transatlantic.
Haven't seen these extras yet. It's so cool.
These people are pretty cool people.
I met Pete Trewavas at a Kino gig in Holland, and he's funny, kind and genuine. I haven't met the other bandmembers of Transatlantic, but I guess they're just as lovely! But Pete is a very calm person. Very different from Neal and Mike who are really kindof hyperactive. I don't know Roine enough to say something about him. He seems to be the mysterious one. And I like his 70's Hippie outfit on stage. :D :D

I think ReLoad is much better, for some reason. It sort of sounded a bit more like Metallica, and a bit less like Willie Nelson tumbling down a cliffside. Slowly.

NP:
Hidria Spacefolk - Symetria

I'm tripping and spacing here! Awesome!

A.C.T - Today's Report
1. Abandoned World

This reminds me that A.C.T is a band that keeps the standard very high. All of their albums are masterpieces.
Yes, I like this very much.
The voice might put people off, since it's not your ordinary prog voice (but what's an ordinary prog voice anyway?? ???). It's a bit difficult to get into (I had that problem at first) but their music is soooooo good, that you keep going back to it. And after that you come to realise that the voice is actually really good, perfectly fitting the style of the music. Making it an exceptional and very unique band.

And those keyboards... Ooooooooooohhhh wonderful!
Those Swedes...

I like this one a lot. No filler tracks on this one.
It's a great album. Brilliant. I love it.

It truly is. Isn't Quartz on that, too? -Or is it getting too late for memory games?

And what about the endlessly wonderful "This is the 21st century"?
