A fine song.

Haven't heard the TSO version. Heard a double live thing a few times, but I was bored by it, which came as a surprise to me.
The TSO version has a different middle bit, and I think the singer is slightly better, but that's a matter of taste. Overall I think that version has a bit more emotion, also looking at the story line from the TSO album.

NP  Elton John:  Captain Fantastic

Elton and Bernie were prog in the 70's, for sure. Listen to their stuff: It's not only beautiful melody, and playful and devious lyrics, but lots of innovative details and some surprisingly distorted and heavy guitars here and there.

I would say that their best albums are Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Captain Fantastic.

Guys, get these - and let yourselves be surprised bigtime  *horns*

Certainly, Bups. I listened a lot to Bowie some 35 years ago. Maybe I got my fill, but somehow I feel that he's not as lasting as e.g. Floyd and Elton. But what do you like by and about Bowie ?

Opera Fanatica is super, one of Arena's best   *horns*

Strange, I like Scarsick a lot, but it's first now that I'v started listening properly to BE. Maybe because there's so much talking and program music, so it's good to have a prior interest in PoS in order to maintain the necessary perserverance  :)

Yes you're absolutely right, Nicky.
But i fear that the topics PoS choose aren't the ones Paco like.
They tend to be harsh and it's understandeble that some people have problems with that.

NP  PoS:  "BE"  (still)

I can see that I'l BE spending a lot of time on this formidable album.

Here's what The Wickerman writes about it on Amazon.com:

"Like all of PoS's albums, this is a concept album, but this is something different from anything they've done before. Basically, it is a concept about the origin of God, and how he created Man to try to get a better understanding of His own existence. Man, in turn, creates an artificial god of his own, to try to better understand his existence ...."

Sounds real intriguing, huh guys ?  *horns*

What do they mean with this?
'The origin of God'... ::) Funny how we, Man, always think in beginnings and ends... Something eternal is far beyond the reach of our minds.
Anyway, I don't think God created Man to try to get a better understanding of His own existence...
Once again, it sounds like humans want to fit God in their own frame. "God is this, God is that" "He did this and that"...
If we want to get a better understanding of Gods existence, and our own, we should read the Bible. Since it's pretty much clear.

This thought is actually not so new:  Hegel is my favorite philosopher, and he was deeply Christian, or in any case became so in the course of his studies of life and thought. His main perspective is that God started evolution to become Self-conscious, or as a reflection of Himself, or something like that. This image is also referred to in the Biblical "God created man in His own image".

The idea of God reflecting Himself in Man can actually be traced back to the origins of rational thought (although it cannot be understood rationally).  ;)

I use it as an image or symbol to concentrate and meditate on, just like the Crucifixion of Christ.

In case anyone now is inspired to read Hegel, it's my duty to inform you that he is a very profound and difficult philosopher. Bertrand Russell named him the most difficult philosopher of all. I (Nicky) have spent ten years studying him - on and off, admittedly - and I'v only fathomed a fraction of his thought.

I always thought that it meant that Man received characteristics of God. Humans have emotions, just like God. They are in search of true love, just like God.
Well, now that I mentioned this, I can imagine that God created the Earth and Man and everything because he wanted to feel true love. Too bad it wasn't everlasting love (from Man's side anyway...).

But Nicky, God started evolution...? That might be a good one for a new topic, and then explain to me what you mean by that.

Wow... imagine that it will cost a lifetime to know how, why and who God is. Luckily He explains Himself through His Word (that is: the Bible) instead of the most difficult philosopher of all. Hallelujah! :)

I like some of his 70's songs, I guess for the same reasons that you gave about 70's Elton John (which I like too). I wouldn't call myself a fan nor a regular listener of Bowie, though, but I think that, considering the period, the concept about Ziggy Stardust was absolutely brilliant and innovative.

You know, Paxi, we (humans, not God  ;D ) have to learn, i.a. the difference between Good and Evil, by acting freely, then reeping the fruits (some lovely, some rotton) of our acts.

Some people, e.g. Mother Theresa and Mohandas Gandhi, implant Love quickly, others have to bang their heads against a lot'o walls (hey Paxi, where's your fave Smiley)  :D

That's an ongoing discussion, Paxi:  Whether one should remain naive (like a child), or whether one should struggle with the raw material of the World: Personally I have chosen the latter, but each to theirs  :)
