Well... poetry or not... it's about SOMETHING, isn't it? I mean, a story is about...something... music is about something... poetry is about something...

That's a very restricted view of life, isnt it ?   :)

Great poetry rests upon itself  8)

There's very deep poetry, there's shallow poetry. There's religious poetry, there's banal poetry.
Any kind of poetry...

What kind of poetry do you mean Nicky?

Nicky007

You forgot erotic poetry, Paco  ;D

OK, be patient, let me reside in Opeth-mode for a while, and I'l tellya  ;)

As you wish.
When I typed "religious poetry" I accidently thought about "erotic poetry" as well. ;D Song of songs. Actually very interesting to read.

NP  Opeth:  Blackwater Park

Seems more varied than Deliverance, and hence more like Ghost Reveries. Am I right, guys ?

Blackwater Park is a classic. It holds a lot of great melodies and song structures. I personally think that Deliverance is more aggressive then BWP.
It is more the metal side of Opeth than BWP.
And it has The Drapery Falls.  *horns*

GR has the same influences as BWP but you can hear what kind of touch Steve Wilson had on BWP. GR lacks that but nevertheless has become a great album.

WOW !  I'm completely floored. There's sooo much intensity and longing in this song.

Yeah, sure I can hear Steve's influence, sorta metal PT.

But it's not heavier than I'd think that Paco could also enjoy it. There's a bit of growl in the middle of it, but Paco, just think of Daddy bein angry at you, and if your bio-Daddy can't do it properly, I'l do it for'm - the're enough reasons  ;D

Ah ok.
Musically a very nice song. Listened to it many times on progarchives.

But I guess you are all right... I'm not really the heavy type guy. One heavy song is cool. Two heavy songs are ok. Three is acceptable, but a whole album full of double (triple?) bass drum, growling and guitar walls are not really my cup of tea.

Today I was listening to Magic Pie - Circus Of Life.
Now THAT is EXACTLY how I like my music! It really belongs on my top favourites.

What, you get the whole Drapery on Progarchives ?  - the full 10 minutes ?

Yup.

Now playing:

Oktober - Die Pariser Commune

A German band... actually very strange to listen to. I saw it for download somewhere, and the cover looked ok for an album back from 1977.
This is not meant to offend anyone, but although I know this album is about the Paris Commune (La Commune de Paris), it's still strange to hear them singing about "wir haben die Waffen, wir haben das Recht, wir haben die Freiheit, wir haben die Macht"... Dunno...

Instrumentally it's actually pretty good! :)
Bluey or Peter (or anyone for that matter...) do you know this band?
I don't know many bands that sing in German (which is also part of it sounding a bit strange, as I also don't like singing in Dutch (or Swedish, or whatever...)).
But of course I've heard Rammstein... A few times...

What!? I really like the 2007 remixes of the Images & Words tracks! And the alternative version of Through Her Eyes is hauntingly beautiful with that sax-solo! Sure, there's not thát much new content for existing fans, but I think it serves as a nice collection of songs for potential new fans. After hearing what DT has to offer, I'm sure they are willing to delve deeper into the magic world of Dream Theater.

From what you tell it sounds indeed strange - German bands should definitely NOT sing about weapons and power and stuff like that... it always has this "brown" touch, if you catch my drift...

Hehehe, indeed. After all, it's prog eh?
Or actually Kraut Rock (for definition visit progarchives.com).

Well... yeah, I think I agree... I'm not totally sure though. I mean, we shouldn't be led by our history, right? Of course we can learn from history, but history isn't a curse or anything. But it DOES sound strange indeed.
Don't know how to explain properly...

Well, I used to like them a bit. I mean, they had/have a few brilliant songs on their albums, but most of it was nothing for me.
A bit too shocking... And when I searched for information on the band, there were some things about the members that made me feel not really good when listening to them...

-Paco

EDIT: Oh and I am listening to Flagship now.
Flagship - Maiden Voyage
3. The Throne

Very nice music. Very progressive, like Neal Morse and with the same lyrical influences. Sounds a bit like worship or gospel sometimes, but I don't mind. :)
The only wrong thing about it is the singer. He has a good voice, but how he uses it.... :(
