Gary Hughes:  Veritas

Melodic, hard-drivin, rockin bigtime, but also uniquely Garyish  *horns*

You guys dont know what you're missin.

Unfortunately, the production isnt entirely up to Gary's usual very high standards  ???

For a characterisation, check up my LP.

Me neither, Tom  ;)

NP  Steve Howe:  Small Acts Of Human Kindness  (on Skyline)

This is very beautiful music, guys.

Steve created sooo much joy in our lives with his guitar-playing in Yes. Here he does it again !  Small Acts has the atmosphere of Going For The One, one of my two alltime favorite Yes albums (the other is The Ladder), and it has a melodiousness in Little Jon's league.

Well, Maddox, not entirely, as I'm listening to somethin else marshy:

NP  After Forever:  Self-titled

Completely Floored  ;D  *horns*

Really enjoying it, far more exciting than Nightwish and all the other sleepytime frontlady bands zzzzzzzzz. (Once you're past the a*, b*, c* age)  ;D

An extra joy it was for me that Floor sings very much like Kate Bush, whose singing I enjoy bigtime.

OK so NP Pat Benatar - Hell is for Children

Why ?

First, she is a woman  ;)
Second, she once made a Kate Bush cover (inferior to the original by far, I admit).
Third, the song is great

Agree. Their previous album was a bit disappointing but with the latest is a big step forward if you ask me.
And i personally think that lots of bands are better than Nightwish but that's a personal taste.

Hmm, never heard the resemblance i'm afraid. Maybe it's something you want to hear.  ;)

I remember having read about the resemblance in some review, Mad. That of course also added substantially to my interest in AF. And in my ears the resemblance is very close - and they're both terrific singers.

Got Remagine on my SL now, for the next windfall  ;)

Honestly, I dont understand why people spend their precious time listening to Nightwish and The Gathering, when the're groups like AF and Therion around, who play in the same style, but soooo much more varied and exciting (ups, couldnt help it - does that pass, Cap? )  ;D

In an entirely different vein:

NP  Cephalic Carnage:  Xenosapien

They've become one of my favorite groups - but dont ask me why or how or where or whim  :D

Tell me if my brain goes bananas  ::)

Anyone to share this with ?   ;)

Wicky Nicky ...

Mmmmh, yes, I think Peter will accept that but I do think that with this one you really deserve the nickname I gave you for fun.

What I appreciate on this forum -unlike many others- is that we don't make definitive judgments on people based on the music they listen to. With this sentence, you're getting close to that and it disturbs me a bit. I don't pretend that Nightwish (because we are talking about them at the moment) is the greatest band in the world,  I also do think that people in this band don't seem very interesting as persons but I do enjoy a big part of their music (what I would never have thought possible a few months ago). On the other hand, I bought a Ten double CD on your advice and, frankly, so far, I fail to find it interesting but I would never tell that you waste your time listening to it. And I don't think it neither.

PH made me understand a few days ago that he strongly dislikes Toto but he did it with unoffensive (does this word exist ?) words. I also didn't push the conversation further with him in the Magenta topic because I felt that we could get to a serious conflict.

Getting back to music, of course, some songs are more honest, challenging or technical than others but when it comes to the emotion they bring, it is all personal.

So let's remain tolerant, my friend (plus, now I know your face  ;)).

Yeah, you're right there, Bups.

However, among friends, one can sometimes be a little more direct, non pas ?   :)

You know that I respect your taste, i.a. as we've had some good discussions on Dream Theater, who after all are my favorite active group (Floyd being my fave past group).

NP  Metallica:  Master Of Puppets

Great, even better than I expected   *horns*

I really like this Burton period of Metallica - nice and aggressive - one of the biggest tragedies of rock history that he was so suddenly ripped away, and in such a way  :'(

And it sure affected the Metallica guys a lot - understandably !

Yes, of course.

And most of the time it's better to tell things than to keep them inside and get sapped. That's why I wrote the previous message  :)

By the way, in French, you wouldn't say "non pas ?" but "n'est-ce pas ?"

And "unoffensive" is acceptable, but "inoffensive" is standard English  :)

Bupie, Nicky, this is why I love it here. We're very open to each other. I appreciate that, and I respect all of you! You're a bunch of good guys. Even Blueypony! ;D ;)

Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves. ;)

I just finished playing Threshold's "Dead Reckoning".
2007 was a great year! 8)

EDIT: Well, what shall I put in my CD-player now? Any recommendations? :D
