Nightwish - Once

"Nemo"            *horns*

Chut ! The female fronted metal bands get Nicky on his nerves. We have a French word for that, "misogyne", but I don't know if it has an English translation.  :D

NP After Forever - Monolith of Doubt   ;D

PH

I just finished playing:
Ray Wilson - Change

The three bonus tracks are very interesting. Especially "Cool Water", since it sounds progressive to me. To be honest, it reminds me of Gabriel Genesis (as if it could be on The Lamb :o)

No, except that I dont look at them for the music  ;D

Seriously now, I actually added the latest (self-titled) After Forever album to my SL, this time purely for the music. They seem to have more to offer than most other FFB's.

I actually like some female singing: Eleven are one of my fave bands, both for the great singing and imagination, and I enjoy the female singing in Therion and Echoes Of Eternity. Wonderful little Bianca Ryan, who won America's Got Talent, Season 1, simply blew me totally away, like she did several other millions of viewers ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bianca_Ryan ), and I'd like to have her debut album. Then there are some other great female singers outside of prog, i.a. Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, and Christina Aguilera, but I dont buy their albums, as the music isnt prog enough.

Nightwish and Epica are also too boring for me (despite good looks). But Simone does a great job on Ghost Opera, which is a terribly good album. Try some of this real prog stuff instead, Bups (oo, now I'm being manipulative  >:(  ).

... "misogyne", but I don't know if it has an English translation.  :D

Almost the same in English.

Dictionary.com:

mi·sog·y·ny

–noun hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.

American Heritage Dictionary:

mi·sog·y·nist

n.   One who hates women.

adj.   Of or characterized by a hatred of women.

I'v stopped hating them now, and love'm all the more  ;D

Nah, I think it was a French word. I'm sure Bupie would know how to spell such a simple German word. Why would he use a German word anyway? He's French! French people use French words!

All those chauvinistic Germans and Frenchmen here... ;)

Yes, it's a French word which basically means "silence" or "don't speak". I thought you guys were more educated  ;D

Yes, you are. About Nightwish, I think that they do have (well, Tuomas has) a real gift for good/great melodies. That's why they hooked me, despite a cheese factor close to the max. On the other hand, from the few songs that I have heard, it seems to me that Epica falls short in terms of melodies, which leads them close to caricature sometimes. But Simone is, well ...  :-[  Let's say that I would love to see her live.

I have this album too, Nicky. It's perfect in terms of musical quality and production, everything is so neat and clear (maybe even too much)  but I don't find it as imaginative as you do and it doesn't give me all the emotion I am looking for. Comfort Me is really a great ballad, though. The female voice is heavenly ...   ;D

Ok, this REALLY doesn't make any sense...
A Frenchman pronounces a German word in the Dutch way on an English-speaking forum...
Isn't it much easier to believe that it is a French word? ;D
Which makes it chauvinistic of course, why else would someone proudly use his motherlanguage on an international forum?
It's ok though. Ik doe het ook wel eens. :P

NP> A surprise to some, may be but:

Mostly Autumn - Heart Full Of Sky

Track: [01] Fading Colours

I finally received this one. I've been waiting for it for four weeks now.

I never was impressed by them. Heard a few songs but i didn't really liked it.
Until i heard two songs of this album on the Dave O prog show. Since then i've been carefully beginning to like them.
I bought it on a whim, and it has quickly become one of my all time favourite albums. Silver Glass is one of the best songs ever made imo.

I have a suspicion that you dont play albums through, or kinda lose track of what's goin on along the way, Bups  :D

One of the best rockers on Room V - and eva - is the last song "Rain". (Hm, there's somethin about this rain theme - Enter Rain, Steel Rain, Rain - that gets the best out of prog musicians.) Man, that guitar of Gary's in the beginning, the hard drive, Mike's dreamy singing, the beautiful harmonies - the extreme contrasts, I always go for that. Hey guys, where's Room V ? - I'm on my waaaay .....

QuoteWhat do you think of Room V, Mad ?  And give me an answer that's more than "good" or the like  ;)

Nicky.

I think they''re good.  ;D

No seriously.  :D

I bought their first album when it came out (s/t) and although i liked a few songs, like The Dance Of Fools and Queen Of The City Of Ice (a monstrous epic which is just awesome) i was a bit disappointed about the production. Very flat.
And the fact that they used a drum computer as a drummer wasn't really helpful either.

Fact is that Mike Baker is one of the best prog singers around and Shadow Gallery is a great song-based prog band.
Quite a lot of their songs are classical influenced. You know, some keyboard-orchestra and piano parts. Different than DT uses that.
I actually think that in that way they're the counterpart of DT. They can be metalish but overall the prime issue of SG is the Song.

Hope this helps a bit.  ;)

NP: Karnivool - Themata

Guys, here's your daily dose of great progmetal! I just stumbled upon this review of their album here: http://www.dprp.net/reviews/200802.php#karnivool

My curiosity grew with each word I read, so I decided to visit their MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/karnivool to see (hear) what all the fuss was about. Then I listened to C.O.T.E and I was like 'WOW'! ;D So now I'm listening to Themata and I really like what I'm hearing. I think I will just have to buy this album!

Conclusion: There's great progmetal in Australia as well! *horns*

Cheers, Tom
