Appelmoes??

I wanted to listen to some Dead Reckoning songs, but after hearing Damian nailing those "mac" songs, I won't bother...  :-\

I thought Damian was beyond excellent at summers end, as you said totally nailed the 'mac' stuff, I really hope he will stay with them now.

See, that's just the thing, Maddox: I don't find that SDV holds the standard. I actually skip it now and go to 6:00, sometimes jump out of that one too. The rest of Awake is sheer brilliance. Nothing longdrawn. I've rarely experienced that with (almost) a whole album.

Nicky.
:o 6:00 is the perfect opener and Space-Dye Vest is a beautiful, melancholic close of the album, for me DT's best "ballad" ever! Indeed breathtaking as maddox says. Scarred is a gem too!

NP  DT: Lifting Shadows Off A Dream

Unbelievably good song  *horns*
That is for me actually the contender for weak spot on the Awake album, together with Innocence Faded :-\

Curious thing Nicky, how we share our admiration for this DT album but are so divided on these tracks!

Maybe some of the differerence, Erik, lies in my experiences as a guitarist. I played lead guitar in a couple of groups in my high school years - yeah, guys, this old geezer actually once stood and plonked out some riffs on his Fender (smoked a lot of spicy stuff in those days too) - and that heightened my sensitivity to guitar specialities.

There are lots of great guitarists around today, we should really be grateful for that. I think a lot of us who have tried a bit ourselves are more attentive to fine details than most other people, and I myself have come to the point where I see John Petrucci as a very special guitarist, even within this very dignified society, yes, admittedly, as primus inter pares.

And, getting to the point, I experience him as particularly poetic on Lifting Shadows. And it's one of Jamie's finest moments too.

Nicky.

*horns* Cool! Never really played an instrument myself.

I see, I shall relisten to the track bearing this in mind and with (even more than usual) ear for detail!

That's what I like in a forum like this one, it's not just sharing common views, but also encountering interesting new views and perspectives from people who know what they're talking about!

Yeah, Erik, I enjoy that too. I live in a country, Denmark, where people are nice, considerate, and beautiful, but very conservative (the last two characteristics being rather complementary in my experience, resistance shapes character). It's not a coincidence that I'm the only person in Denmark who's active here in the Room. I go into a big CD-store, meet the "prog expert", and the guy has never heard of Arena or Sieges Even; that sorta gives the picture.

I am also a big DT fan and LSOAD and Innocence Faded are my two favorite songs on Awake but again, I guess it's because I belong to the dark side of the Force (= easy listening poppy neo-prog) ...  ;D

Speaking of easy listening
NP Bon Jovi - Keep the Faith  Groovy bass and drums : perfect for hitting the dance floor after a few beers ...

:D LOL!!

To underline that I'm not a heavy hardliner: I love the track These Walls on Octavarium!

My favorite song on Octavarium is Never Enough and I don't think it's the most poppy there. So maybe I am not completely lost for the prog cause ?   ???

NP Asia - The smile has left your Eyes  Finally, yes, I am definitively lost ...  :D

Me too :) Last time Thresholds singer bailed on them Damian toured with them and recorded an album (extinct instinct), I hope he will do the same again, but also stayes with the band.

But all in all I'm just VERY grateful I saw Threshold with Damian, at least once. It was magic seeing them.

NP  DT: Scenes From A Memory

I'm gonno run this one on repeat now. See if it grips me as much as Awake. JP (just playing and John Petrucci) Through Her Eyes  *horns*

Are you guys aware that this album is about reincarnation, btw a topic that I'v studied thoroughly.

BP  Manuel de Falla: Fire Dance

Great piece for piano solo. Has the Spanish spirit, a lot of changing, surprising rhythms, and other prog elements. Give it a run, guys.

When Uncle Rocky pours some grace upon me, I'll get the notes and have some fun working up the piece. When I see you guys, I'll play (some of) it for you - if you get me a cold beer.

NR Genesis: Chapter & Verse *horns*

Got it yesterday from the bookstore where I ordered it; a very good read so far (the Charterhouse years), this heavy volume is going to provide for many enjoyable reading hours! :P
I'm taking a little trip back... Just played disc 4 (their first demos) of the Archive 1967-1975 box  and will now proceed with From Genesis To Revelation. ;D

NP  Kamelot: Ghost Opera

Roy Khan is a fabulous singer, clearly one of the absolute best, but I have to say that I don't find that Kamelot is up to his standards. They're excellent, by all means, but not up to DT and SyX standards, and that's what a singer of Khan's talent merits. I actually find his previous group Conception more exciting.

But I'm happy to be contradicted.
