Nicky, you seem to have plenty of energy so you should find something. Maybe Bluepony could introduce you in her company ?  ;D

Having a philosophical frame of mind is a disadvantage most places, Bupie. But let's see. At least I'm in good physical shape for my age and don't either look worn down.

Thanks for your concern. At worst, I'll take my accordion and sing Arena songs in French in the streets of Paris. That's at least original. I expect that you'll come by and get me a beer, Bupie.

NP  Grendel

Still very listenable. Fish was a bit too Gabrielesque for present-day ears, and he overdid the Scottish rrrrr's, but he sure put everything he had into his singing, and that's what makes it exciting. You also hear that the other guys were great musicians right from the beginning.

There must have been something else that divided them, Tom, because Mick is all upfront and does some exciting stuff on Grendel.

Grendel has always been one of the faves for many Marillion fans.

The Reasoning - Awakening

The Reasoning are a new band and this is their first release, although they feature ex-members of Magenta and Karnataka.

On the face of it they are very similar to Mostly Autumn with vocal duties shared by male and female singers. However they are a bit more progressive than MA and have a harder edge with slightly less celtic/folk influences - which suits me fine. Some of the material is reminiscent of Pink Floyd and perhaps Yes and Rush but they do have their own distictive sound.

This is one of my favourite albums of 2007 - 9/10

Any other forum members into The Reasoning ?

Cheers

I have added the group as a MySpace friend  :). Like the music I hear, but there are so many great releases in 2007 that I just have to make choices. I will definitely check them out.

NP Interview with Mick and Clive, that we did with them last time they were in Holland

Got 2/3 of it done now and hope to put it on the Cage website at the end of next week when our "webmaster" is back from a trip abroad. I will announce it here when it's there. It will be informative reading!  ;)

Before that I played Pink Floyd / Atom Heart Mother / Atom Heart Mother Suite and If; while I was having supper. Couldn't play Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast of course, doesn't go with supper, will save that for tomorrow morning. :P Actually, I don't like that track.. Maybe I should have played Supper's Ready :P Ha, a song for each meal of the day! But is there an apt proggy lunch song?

Back to the Atom Heart Mother album, I had that on tape when I was in highschool together with Animals, it needed some time before I started liking it, but I kept playing it and it became a much cherished tape.

Looking very much forward to reading it. Clive and Mick are very special persons.

Great to see you more upfront in the Room, Erik. You have loads of knowledge of rock, so it's good to share some of that.

AHM is one of the greaties, for sure. And isn't If a lovely song? Roger put a lot of his soul into that one.

>Back to the Atom Heart Mother album, I had that on tape in highschool together with Animals, it needed some time before I started liking it, but I kept playing it and it ended up as a much cherished tape.

Animals is a very special album, seems only accessible to true Floyd fans; I think one has to feel some of Roger's outrage at humanity to cherish it.

I personally consider Arena the true torchbearers of the Floyd flame.

NP  Marillion: Lady Nina  (on B'sides Themselves)

Imo the best song on the album. BT is a very mixed candy jar, but certainly a must for a M-fan.

They are and especially Clive always has lots to tell, just one question will have you typing half a page of answer  :)

Thanks Nicky! Yeah, it's good to exchange knowledge and views on rock/prog and this is an excellent place to do so. I have been one of the "lurking" members for quite a while, but I really think this forum is a nice place to be. If on AHM is a gem, both the lyrics and the music. Also really like the other two, Summer of '68 and Fat Old Sun.

Animals is wonderful! Maybe not everybody's cup of tea but essential in my opinion. Definitely not a cheerful album, but I suppose no Floyd album is except Piper.  ;)

Yep, that compilation is a must for the Marillion fan and also prog fan in general just for Grendel  ;) My favourite is Three Boats Down From The Candy. When you listen to the alternative versions of these two tracks (with Mick) that are on the remaster bonus disc of Script, it strikes you how much these songs have a vintage "Genesis feel", more than the later versions that are on B'sides.

Just played Yes / Time And A Word (the album); I don't listen to that one very often, but every time I do I'm pleasantly surprised how enjoyable I find it. The spring of Yes.

Interesting to hear Phil's debut as frontman.

We seem to be sharing many similar tastes, love Trick, one of my absolutely favourite Genesis albums! Make sure you listen to its twin Wind And Wuthering as well! Great they played Los Endos and Ripples on the last tour.

I don't really get this "lurking" business. I've always been too eager to add my mustard - or else I leave shortly, if I find that people are just f* around.

Right, Floyd were the masters of Weltschmerz - but isn't that what makes great music?

This song and the LP Suspended Animation are so good that I fail to understand all the bashing they received  ???

Definitively a must-get album for you Nicky and Maddox (plus many other roomies)  ;)

Thanks for that, Bupie though i already have it.
Have to admit that i don't really like instrumental albums but guys like Petruci and Satriani for instance, heck even the old work of Yngwi J. Malmsteen are very good indeed.  *horns*

Yngwie has seemed to me to be rather much of a showman, but if you think that some of his music is worth having in a prog collection, I'll be open to your recoms, Maddox. So how would you characterise his best albums?

Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Trilogy

Track: You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget

;D

Actually i consider this album and the first one 'Rising Force' and Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force, together with the former singer of Rainbow, forgot his name sorry, his best. What came after this was either A: not good or B: total crap. And the fact that i lost interest at some point also helped a bit. ;)

It's OK, but rather boring, little variation, lyrics don't either seem that deep.

Anyone know this group? Have they done something more interesting than this album?
