NP  Rick Wright:  Broken China.

Anyone who doesn't know who Rick Wright is can't be my friend!

Exciting, unusual, quite different from Floyd, actually more like Gilmore solo, something for people who like keyboards in distress, a must for Roomies.

Rick got lost in the whole Floyd mania (which fortunately came after long last), but this guy has something very special goin on.

Reaching For The Rail is the killer song here. Sinead O'Connor sings on this one, and man, she gives me the shivers all through! I think if women wanna do something special for prog, they can learn something here.

NP  Wuthering Heights:  The Shadow Cabinet.

This is a breakthrough for me: The first time I've been excited about a Danish prog group. Well, let's make it semi-Danish: three members Danish, and three Swedish, but they have their base in Copenhagen, and a Danish website  http://www.wuthering-heights.dk/

The singer, Nils Patrik Johansson, is a big fan of Sabbath and Metallica, but sings better than the vocalists of these bands. He actually has a very big span, is precise, and expresses many moods convincingly. Surprisingly fine.

The music is, well, a bit Dragonforce, a bit Metallica, Celtic folk, Gregorian, quite a blend. Try'm out, folks, they're real good.

Sounds interesting! But for some reason my computer refuses to open the sound samples on their HP.  :(

It's funny, Bluey, you actually look like Cathy in Wuthering Heights. Now you also know who your Heathcliff is  ;D

Glad you like the music. It was quite a revelation for me.

I agree with you there, Nicky.  :D I like the album too and think it's highly under rated.  *horns*

Too much growl, too little melody, for my taste.

Anybody like this group?

NP  Korn:  Untitled  (just come out).

I know that this will bring me a lot of trouble, but the time has now come when I must confess that I'm a longtime Korn fan; and I believe that the God of Prog will forgive me, because they're really good and highly original, and this album is no exception. With age they've even become spiritual - in their own weird way.

How to characterise Korn? Probably the weirdest group on this planet, without being tasteless. And I don't know why I like their music, I just do.

It's also typical that (Wikipedia) "the disc was released without a title, in what vocalist Jonathan Davis reasons as 'why not just let our fans call it whatever they wanna call it?'"

Appy, you being the artiste, whaddaya think of the cover pic?

Hey Nicky,

Korn are cool!  *horns*
If you like their music, maybe you should check out MinDead ('secret tip' from Germany - not advertising my brother's band or so...  ;)).

Will gladly, Bluey, d'you have any links to samples? Your brother seems to have gotten the intelligence in the family (oo, bad'un, Nicky)  ;D

You're an artiste too, Bluey, what do you think of Korn(y) art?

I've had Unti on repeat the whole forenoon. Great stuff man.

Try their website www.mindead.com or maybe have a look at their profile on MySpace, if the website is still 'down for maintenance'.
Of course, I could always get you a (signed?) CD!  ;D

Well, the artwork for the new album seems even 'crazier' than the old stuff, but I like their comic style, it definitely makes a difference.

BTW, when my brother's band started people said he was a Jon-Davis-lookalike. So obviously he got the intelligence AND the good looks!  ;)

I tried the website, and it was down. I went into MySpace. It's a problem for MinDead that there's a Greek (I think) group called Absent Mindead that have the first six links on "mindead".

Well, let's wait it out. Tell your brother to lay the chillum aside for a while and get their website up, and you tell us then.

Thanks for the offer. I should hear them first to see if I like their music.

Aaaargh! Musicians... well, men in general I guess - if you want something done, better do it yourself!  ;)
I'll see what I can do, but since it's their singer who's running their homepage I have little hope... musician, you know...  ;D

Nicky.
Talking to my brother right now - he says there's some problem with the licence of the 'old' homepage, but the new one will be up & running soon (HOPEFULLY!!!). So at the moment it seems the only way to get some information about them is on MySpace. There should be two sound clips available which will also be featured on their new album that is supposed to come out in autumn (this year?).

Wow, this is really heavy but way more melodic than the style usually produces.

NP  It Bites:  When The Lights Go Down.

You're right, Bellanova, this is wonderful music.

Once again, one wonders why most people prefer to listen to production-line ticky-tacky instead of well-crafted and -performed music.

Shadowland - Through The Looking Glass
Queen - Innuendo
Sylvan - Posthumous Silence *
Shadowland - Mad As A Hatter

* Something strange happened on that one. Everyone was saying that it is a masterpiece. I found it nice, but absolutely not my favourite Sylvan album. So I ignored it for a few months. Until today and I must say:  *horns* it rocks, it finally clicked. Very strange.

I don't find it strange any longer, Teunis. That's happened several times to me with different bands. Recently with Wuthering Heights' The Shadow Cabinet. Initially I found it too noisy, until it recently dawned upon me how exciting it is.

That's why we should be very careful with judging some music until we really have given it many runs over a long span of time. But I think that every true proggy knows that.

That's nicely put, John. I don't think it's anything for me to go further with, but it's always interesting to be introduced to a new group of serious musicians, and serious they are.
