Fates Warning: Still Life.  Disc One: A Pleasant Shade Of Gray.  Recorded live in Europe, April 1998.

Jim Matheos has composed this masterpiece, both music and lyrics. Rarely has there been such a gathering of great musicians: Ray Alder on vocals, Jim Matheos and Bernie Versailles on guitar, Mark Zonder on drums, Joey Vera on bass, and Jason Keazer on synths, all in top shape.

Fates Warning are little known in Europe, which is a great pity.

Actually, I consider Still Life as one of the best live albums ever made.  *horns*

I discovered another band. It's not a super super super super nice band, but it's still much better than average!
Twinspirits.
And the album that I'm listening to now is by that band. It's called "The Music That Will Heal The World".

Very nice guitar riffs. The band sounds sometimes very much like Dream Theater.
There's only a small problem. The voice isn't always really good.
But the biggest problem are the lyrics...

"The sun is shining on my eyes. The daylight has returned. To live in dreams has been so fine but I had to come back. Everything is different here from where we have been." blah blah blah... They are no Clive Nolan that's for sure! ;)

But musically it's perfect!

Appelmoes??

I was playing Porcupine Tree's Voyage 34: The Complete Trip
Especially (or actually "exclusively") the first two tracks are wonderful.
The third track is just bad and the fourth is so so.

Now it is:
Premiata Forneria Marconi - Stati Di Immaginazione
01. La Terra Dell'Acqua

Sounds very relaxed, not bad at all.

Genesis: Duke.

I'm a Duke and I'm listening to Duke. That's funny (isn't it?).

Anyhow, this is a true masterpiece, I don't think anyone here would dispute that. I pick it out every so often, and every time it's a winner. For me, it marks the high point of Genesis' great musical career. And it reminds me of Phil's tremendous genius in both lyrics, vocals and drums (despite a lot of syrup other places).

Yeah, indeed a winner album, from begin to finish it's an amazing piece of art.

Funny that you mention it by the way. 'Cuz on the Frost forum we were just discussing that Milliontown is actually Duke II.

Nicky007

Interesting, PH, I'll check out Milliontown in that light. Great album in any case.

I just played a fair bit of the DVD "Live In Europe" by Transatlantic and I can say that I really REALLY like it.
Pete Trewavas' bassplaying is astonishing actually. He really came in the spotlight here (literally too).

He's a tremendous bassplayer, but his singing is like Pusle's (my cat). Fortunately Neal is usually around to do the singing, and he's  *horns*

I haven't listened a lot to Transatlantic, but when I did, I felt that their music was far from the heights of Dream Theater and Spock's.
