NP  Riverside:  Rapid Eye Movement

These guys wanted to do something real special this time, and they sure succeeded  *horns*

Heavy without being (too) thrashy, wonderful melodies, imaginative riffing. Then the heaviness lightens and an ethereal Floydian or PT atmosphere emerges. Exquisite drumming (Cap & Paxi!). Travis Smith seems to have taken a liking to them too, and he's made some real nice graphics. I have to wait with commenting the lyrics.

Riverside are now in the top league. Seems like some of you roomies agree  :)

NP  Tool:  Opiate

I didnt expect much from their debut in 1992, but man, this album is sooo goood  *horns*

Already with their first effort, Tool barged into the top league.

These guys have so much spunk - it's amazing !

Need I say more ?  *horns*

Any other full-blooded Tool fans around ?

This is pretty funny: "Tool was scheduled to play the Garden Pavilion in Hollywood [in 1993] but learned at the last minute that the Garden Pavilion belonged to L. Ron Hubbard's Church of Scientology, which the band felt clashed with the band's ethics about how a person should not follow a belief system that constricts their development as a human being. Keenan spent most of the show baaing like a sheep at the audience."  Wikipedia - Tool

I hope nobody here has been shanghaied by this miserable belief system  8)

Contagion

Ever heard about it guys ?  ;D

I wanna distinguish better between the individual songs.

This is divunytlï one of the albums I'v heard most - and every time's been a joy  *horns*

One of the things I like about it is that Clive and Mick have given the newies - Rob, John & Ian - a lot of freedom, and all members of the group have done a great job.

Hey guys, am I the only person here who wants to talk about music these days ?  ::)

Well Nicky, it seems that you and I are the only ones going in depth about our listening experiences. I like writing reviews, so whenever I post in this Now Playing Thread I try to give as much information about the band/album/song I'm listening to.
It keeps it interesting.

But I was very busy these days, that's why you felt so alone. :D

And at the moment I'm not playing anything.

*horns* Paco. Maybe some more roomies could be animated to do the same  :)

I can tell you guys that it's the thousands of reviews I'v read that, more than anything else, have given me my extensive knowledge of rock.

Just finished Contagion this morning in the bus en route to my course. The wonderful Ascension, my alltime Arena fave, got me into a great mood. Now I can conquer the whole world !  Just call me Napoleon, Bupie  *horns*

Soon gonna play some more Steel Prophet  ;)

I only have a compilation (which I usually avoid since it rarely gives justice to a band) and frankly, the song I mentioned is the only one that I really like. The rest of the album is very average commercial rock with sometimes a metal edge. I'm pretty sure you know at least the song Eye of the Tiger, which was on the Rocky's soundtrack and is as interesting as the movie  :P

To be clear, I can't recommend them ...

Ah yes, Queensrÿche...

I personally prefer "Operation: Mindcrime" (Part I) and "Empire", but I think they never released any "weak" album. Great band - and great singer!! You really should check them out in detail, Nicky. (Even if it's me who recommends them.) ;)

I started doing that before I read your post, Bluey  ;D

I actually bought the entire catalog except for the first and latest album a year ago, based on reviews. I started listening to them, but some other groups gripped me more at the time and took over. But now I'm getting into Q and enjoying them a lot, and I'v added them to my prog pantheon.

Additionally we have another group in common, Bluey. Guess which:  A****  ;D

The Butterfly Man

NP: Arena - Painted Man

Wow, it just came along when putting my iTunes music library on shuffle. It's such a long time ago I listened to this song and now I'm blown away by it's awesomeness like it is the very first time I hear it.

That guitarsolo!!!!! *horns*

Those lyrics! "Come down from your ivory towers. Corruption devours us all." Truly spine-tingling!

Haha good one Tom. Very subtile. ;)
I love it.
